We have about 30 of the Hondas and use them for construction sites without power. Most of the stock is 5+ years old. They get serviced between jobs and no one shuts them off most days. The real problem is that they grow legs very easily.

But modernity and technology DO change the equation. Societies and cultures are geared toward finding and encouraging patterns that work for providing those best productive outcomes in changing landscapes. It's been a long time since our urges have lined up with the best outcome. Mastering delayed gratification yields healthier bodies, finances, and emotions to name a few.

I think for a lot of human history, getting married and starting a family before 20 (for women) was borderline scandalous. Cultures that solved the housing problem by normalizing several generations living in the same house started a couple years earlier. I think most women, who want to join the workforce, would be best served by getting their education and a couple of years of on the job experience first, so 24-25. Getting married a couple of years prior wouldn't be bad. From my anecdotal experience, having and raising children changes the focus an functionality of the brain in ways that aren't great for higher ed. From a societal point of view, we should normalize women taking a dozen years off for the family, allow some education catch-up, and welcome them back to the workforce without adding any crushing debt or negative consequences. A lot of women don't really enjoy motherhood and would rather be at work, so having systems where part-time work is normal would be good too.

I’m not sure what I was expecting. I was giving the pups some leftover bacon and one tried to snap at a piece. Unfortunately it shot directly into their deep water bowl and the bacon immediately sank to the bottom. What followed resembled what I would imagine an interrogation of Falkor would look like as he was forcibly dunked underwater. After a violent stream of gluttonous bubbles, the other dog emerged triumphant. Did I imagine the muffled yell?

No idea. Best guess is that sex just isn’t a bonding thing for many people and I think people do tend to give it more weight than it deserves in relationships. If someone was/is a sex worker, they’re just not going to put much stock in it and that’s probably one of the reasons they got into the business to begin with. Is it just for reproduction? No. Is it important? Yes. Should it be the foundation of a relationship? Definitely not.

There’s a risk that such employees, even though they perform well, negatively impact the team as a whole. You see it on some sports teams with a star athlete who thinks everything revolves around them. A well functioning team will aways outperform a team with a star player and disfunction.

Nostalgia has always been a thing, but it feels like it’s at an ATH. Kids wear clothes with old bands and many other things from the 90’s and before. I don’t think it’s just a fashion trend, I think they sense that there was more meaning to life then, compared to our hollowed out culture, and they want it.

We had a large surprise party last night to honor my in-laws for their decades of selfless service in the church. The house was packed with the faces of old friends, and so many children, singing hymns and having great fellowship. It was a small glimpse of heaven.

Recently got the kiddo a decent sized trampoline because she wore out her little one. It's been a blast playing and chilling on it with her. I mostly work outdoors, but I can't remember the last time I laid down and looked at the clouds for a while. The guard mesh around it keeps the bugs down and it beats a hammock by far. Maybe we'll camp out..

This has little to do with social media, but your post reminded me of a book my church went through in college called The Master Plan of Evangelism (1963). One of the main things I still remember about it is how Jesus focused his energy on 12 disciples because that number was around the maximum that a human could meaningfully pour themselves into. You see the same idea when Jesus talks about sending the Holy Spirit. He was able to accomplish so much because he understood the limitations of being human and planned around them.

Anyone remember the series Kung Fu from the 70's? They made a continuation of it in the 90's about the protagonist's grand and great grandson. The 90's show was alright, if not a little cheesy at times. The one thing that stuck with me about it was that the main character kept his grandfather's, father's, and his own journal, receiving and passing down wisdom. That was such a cool concept to me at the time and still is. I journal sporadically, but have never been able to maintain a daily journal over long stretches of time. I've had the best success with text files, but even they are sprinkled all around. I've recently tried journaling in a physical notebook and there is something very pleasant about it. Do any of you journal?
