@nprofile…ug07 Maybe. I installed the latest version and it says in the docs that only the full/paid version supports the codecs in the Linux flavor. It’s different for the other OSes, where the codecs are already licensed as part of the system.

Mini PC (from my last video) update: Been trying to edit videos on it, and while it works well with Kdenlive, DaVinci Resolve doesn’t have H264/265 support in the free version (which is what my camera spits out). Kdenlive feels a bit clunky to me, too. I like Resolve better (even if it isn’t FOSS).

Free "digital detox" Tutorial:
Left my phone at home, packed an old iPod, a copy of the Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy (on actual paper), a bottle of water and a blanket in my backpack. Went for a walk in the park. Sat down, watched some birds and listened to some light jazz, read a bit. Easy.

@nprofile…02ud I agree, it may still be some years. Jens sounded pretty optimistic though (I don’t exactly remember where he said it, I think possibly Amiga40). The project seems to be pretty far along already. Nowhere near a finished Ultimate 64 or Reloaded, of course. But there’s a bit of hope. We‘ll see, I guess. It’s not the most important thing in the world. I’m happy with the Amigas that already exist anyway. :D

@nprofile…02ud I think a new A1200 would be a good thing. Not many affordable ones around anymore that still work. iComp has one in the works (and Jens already hinted at having talked to Perifractic). I'd guess that's what they are aiming at. Hardware compatible with the original, FPGA based chipset, slightly souped up specs. Cases & keyboards are already available. Similar thing to the C64U. I think it would actually be a good idea.

2026-06-16 14:16:35 UTC

From the #Commodore newsletter:
"And, for those of you predicting an Amiga Ultimate, you're not necessarily wrong... it's just not time yet. But Peri did visit Mike Battilana (steward of all things Amiga for many years) to discuss bringing Amiga back home to Commodore. Negotiations are officially underway. (Thank you for all the support, we're excited too.)"
I hope they have enough money left after the phone thing to strike a deal with Cloanto for licensing a new #Amiga.

Looking forward to the Commodore Phone YouTube reviews from all the GenX white dudes with too much money to spare who are going to pretend they can live without social media and love the new phone so much.

@nprofile…xpds Several. There are already FPGA variants and the emulation boxes (The A500mini & the A1200). The project iComp is working on is going to be compatible with real hardware expansions though.

2026-04-28 12:01:32 UTC

They could totally build a new A1200 system with hardware compatibility to the original that looks and feels like back in the day but has modern conveniences and possibly more power out of the box. Very similar to what they did with the C64 Ultimate.

2026-04-28 11:56:01 UTC

- reply

Demand seems to be high. New A1200/A500 cases and keyboards do already exist from A1200net. Would "just" be a matter of getting the legal stuff sorted out and waiting for the Amiga board to be finalized (last I heard that might still take a while).

2026-04-28 11:52:21 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…cs4n Oh, I didn’t know that! Would make perfect sense, of course. If they manage to get the legal situation worked out, that is. Maybe they already have.

2026-04-28 11:48:48 UTC

The new #C64Ultimates are now available as C64C-style "slimline" models. From original 1986 molds that were last seen with Individual Computers (afaik).
Conspiracy theory: More collaborations between Commodore and iComp coming up (maybe for the FPGA Amiga iComp has been working on) in the future?

2026-04-25 13:55:21 UTC

You can also just run a slightly modified version of DolphinDOS on the #C64Ultimate, as it turns out. It is WAY faster than any JiffyDOS derivatives (but doesn’t have a rainbow startup screen). Here’s the variant I’m currently using: https://github.com/donnchawp/DolphinDOS2

Just spent several hours trying to figure out the software settings to get composite video output from a Raspberry Pi‘s audio jack.
My adapter cable has the wrong pinout. D‘oh.

@nprofile…g03q @nprofile…wqzx @nprofile…m06y Whoops, sorry, I wasn’t aware. I’m used to the PAL variants of both NES and SNES, had no idea the NTSC SNES would be different. :/

@nprofile…wqzx @nprofile…m06y You can use the NES power brick on the SNES (and vice versa), maybe a good place to start finding the fault.

@nprofile…m06y If it doesn’t turn on at all (ie the power LED doesn’t light up) it may be the internal fuse that gave up the ghost (they are very flimsy). Or maybe (which would be the easiest fix) it’s just the power supply. Lots of other things could be wrong, of course, just guessing. I don’t have much experience with SNESes but read a lot of forum post etc while refurbishing mine a while back.

I‘m going to delete my Amazon account today. Should have done that ages ago but kept it for convenience (shame on me).

@nprofile…w469 The board is super high quality so desoldering the through-hole stuff was no fun either.

@nprofile…w469 De-soldering and re-soldering the FPU was a bit of a nightmare and took way longer than I expected, the rest was smooth sailing so far. But I haven’t even powered it on yet so there may be more surprises along the way.

More progress on the #Amiga3000T. I think I managed to fix all the missing connections, re-sealed the board and put the FPU back in. Needs some more cleaning up and some double and triple checking and then it’s going to be time for a first smoke test.

My #C64Ultimate is estimated to arrive in March! To be honest, I am more excited about that than I have any right to be (given the fact that I own at least a dozen real C64s in good condition at this point). 😅

@nprofile…5lqq Yup, that’s probably why it leaked so badly. Replaced it with a ceramic cap now and it works very well so far.

Apparently, C59 which has the worst leakage is supposed to be a bipolar cap. Nintendo corrected it in the next board revision. 🤦 #Nintendo #SNES
