Hey brother, thanks for asking, I’m joining my partner who moved there, and I feel like I’ve accomplished everything I wanted to get out of my experience in Costa Rica. I went there without much of a timeline and along the way I found even more passion, especially during my time working at the wilderness therapy program, which was originally my main reason for moving there.

After two years, I have left Costa Rica for my new chapter in Maui Hawaii. This whole journey has been life-changing, and I am very proud of what I accomplished here.
Starting jiu-jitsu there at Jungle Mat, Uvita and earning my blue belt right as I am leaving feels incredibly rewarding, almost like a rite of passage. It feels amazing to close this chapter that way. Thank you for all the support to all my rolling partner.

Hey Primal, I’m Maxi.
I wasn’t always moving.
For years, I lived in front of a screen stiff, distracted, disconnected from my body.
When I finally found movement, I went all in.
Running. Climbing.
Snowboarding. White-water kayaking. Mountain biking.
I worked as a guide in adventure tourism for years.
But I trained like a machine.
No mobility. No awareness. Just intensity.
My hips and shoulders paid the price.
My journey eventually brought me to Costa Rica, where I began working with young adults and adolescents through adventure-based therapy. During my time off, I fell in love with new ways of moving: Jiu-Jitsu, Budokon, surfing, yoga.
And I learned something powerful:
Strength doesn’t come from punishment.
It comes from play.
That’s how the idea of Imperfect Monkey was born.
In a world where everything looks polished, optimized, and AI-perfect, we forget something important:
We are imperfect. And that’s not a flaw. That’s human.
We are all beginners at something.
We are all learning.
We are all evolving.
Imperfect Monkey is for anyone who feels stiff.
For anyone who feels stuck.
For anyone who wants to reconnect.
We hang.
We squat.
We flow.
We laugh.
We move together as a tribe.
We train with friends.
We compete for fun.
We build strength as a natural consequence of moving like humans again.
Let's do things we suck at.
Let’s stop overthinking.
