It's still snowing, heavy wet snow unlike yesterday's light dry snow. We got 14" yesterday and might get another inch or two today.
Sooo grateful that my shoveling is minimal - though it did take 45 minutes to move my car this morning so the maintenance folks could plow the parking lot. 40 minutes to get to the car and 5 minutes to clean it off.
I canceled my physical therapy and am enjoying the snowy day through my windowsill garden.

Three walks down, two to go. #SunshineSadie wants to run and run in the knee-deep snow. (her knees not mine 😉)(I guess those are her hocks, not her knees)
The snow started here in western Massachusetts a little after 8am, light but steady. It started to get serious around 12:30. Now the wind is coming into play spawning little snow devils across the lawns and marsh grass. The mountains of Vermont, just to the north, are completely hidden.
We just had the snow plow come through for the first time. We might have about 5" 13 cm) or so. Oddly, although the snow is gathering on the grass and roads and walkways, there's barely any on the cars. That will be easier for my back!
Last night I made a carrot and red lentil soup with coriander, dill, and bay leaves. There's enough left over for lunch today and tomorrow.

The situation is indeed very grave however a civil war, an organized civil war, is unlikely.
* We are spread out both geographically and in terms of common, binding values.
* We are heavily sedated both medically and recreationally.
* Finally, the people who are out on the streets are - for the most part - dedicated to some form of the principles of non-violence. We are not committed to, nor do we take pleasure in, vicious acts of violence and control - unlike ICE and those who hold and loose their leashes.
Of course, I don't have a crystal ball 🔮 to see the future and how this will ultimately play out. I have my hopes for a positive outcome but in the meantime there's a lot of suffering.

We are having a real old-fashioned snow today. Big heavy flakes falling slowly with no wind and a good buildup. Maybe 4" so far.

I'm wondering 🤔
It's my understanding that current medical research indicates all the chronic illnesses listed below (and there are more I simply don't know about) are triggered by a viral infection. They all have similar clusters of symptoms. Why are they being considered a separate illnesses/syndromes?
I think I need to understand more about viruses and our symbiotic relationships with them. I just found my copy of Lynn Margulis' "Acquiring Genomes: A Theory of the Origins of Species". I think I'll start there.
It seems to me we're in the midst of a viral tidal wave.

We got about an inch of rain overnight and throughout the morning on top of the very cold snow - so today is quite foggy. I think fog is my favorite weather, so mysterious and full of hidden possibility.
When #SunshineSadie and I were out walking at the river park, the sun would peek out from time to time and the fog would suddenly billow up from the snow.

This was my Shai, a tri-pawed rescue who was my heart companion. When we lived in the Buffalo NY area, we were out in a nearby park when a snowstorm suddenly hit and I was completely turned around (lost). I said to him: let's go to the car!, and he led me right back. I guess he had a coal dark lantern for the snow.

I know many/most of you are looking forward to the solstice tomorrow and the slow return of longer days and shorter nights.
I love the rhythms of the solstices and equinoxes when the sun stands still before turning toward the equal night and day / day and night.
But even more - I love the long dark nights, the peaceful stillness, the soft light of bright moon and stars. It's with sadness that I say goodbye - again - to the holly king and greet the return of the oak king.

This is my last night at the hotel - I (and 9 others) have been here for since late winter awaiting repairs and renovations to our apartment building and apartments*
Tomorrow I am going home! After 7 months, I'm not quite yet ready to celebrate - will the other shoe drop - are there any more shoes?! I'm feeling more resigned than anything.
But! I'm looking forward to the parks where #SunshineSadie can run off leash, my favorite hot & sour soup, the view of the southern Vermont mountains from my living room - but more than anything, I'm looking forward to the peace and quiet of no longer living in a 400 unit hotel.
*tl;dr - negligence in maintaining a senior housing building less than 10 years old, pipes burst, flooding.

It is pouring buckets outside today in western Massachusetts. The little stream nearby where we often go walking was almost completely dry, just boulders and rocks and a tiny slip of water. This morning it was happily gurgling along.

I've been struggling the past days (lost track of how many). Outer circumstances triggering inner states and the world at large making it all so much more intense.
One blessing is that I've been taking #SunshineSadie for a morning hike in the nearby state forest. It's a steeper trail than I am used to but with short breaks and my trusty purple cane, we finally made it to where the trail ends in a dry creek bed filled with boulders that promise a sprained ankle at the very least.
I don't know how I would survive without trees and mosses and wildflowers and ferns and rocks and rivers and hills.

I've been stuck at a hotel since March waiting for repairs to be completed after our apartment building flooded from burst pipes.
My unit is right above the outdoor pool. The dj plays music every day from noon until 8pm. Dancing Queen and Girls Just Want to Have Fun are two of the songs they play most often.
That's 700+ hours (8 hours/day, 7 days/week since mid-May). If I ever get out of this hell, I never want to hear those songs again. N.e.v.e.r.

#scribesandmakers July 19 Invent a new imaginary instrument. What does it look and sound like?
The instrument is based on the bluebell flower - the flowers are crafted from the resin of the Silver Fir tree and colored blue by dye made from the leaves of the indigo tree.
The number of flowers of the BlueBell instrument depends on the skill of the player - masters of the instrument have been known to play up to 15.
Each flower is attuned to its player and all other previously attuned flowers. Most BlueBell artists and players are called to their craft at a young age and every community has a guild of players and crafters.
The sound is exquisitely moving and almost impossible to describe - something like a bell and a sigh and a purr and the wind moving through the branches of the silver fir tree.

It is a glorious summer day, finally! Temperature in the mid 70s, the dewpoint in the mid 50s, blue skies and a cool breeze. I'm sitting on my friends' front porch listening to the leaves and the birds chattering.

#SunshineSadie and I are chilling on the front porch and listening to the soothing sound of water falling into a small pond.
It's fascinating and disheartening how even small changes in the weather have big impacts on my health. It's a few degrees warmer today with an increase in the dew point as well and I can feel all the energy draining out of my body and pain levels rise. No, it's not all in my head (me reminding myself)
Tomorrow we're heading back to the hotel for a few days for the air conditioning and will be back in this slice of heaven on Wednesday.

Holy moly - the storm that just blew in is wild! The gentle breeze swaying the trees and plants is now a roaring wind. The rain is coming in sideways.
Poor little #SunshineSadie is trembling and hiding in the hallway. I tried giving her a little doggie stress relief snack earlier but she was having none of it.

Day 3 of 30 days of house sitting.
Yesterday I realized that I hadn't taken a vacation since 2004. I am now!
It's peaceful and beautiful. Birdsong is the loudest sound. Today there's a cool breeze and the trees and garden plants are gently swaying.

Day 1 of 30 days of house sitting.
I honestly thought about going back to the hotel because it was so hot and sticky. The living room window unit and the ceiling fan was really not cutting it. The central air conditioning was calling me.
Then the thunder began to rumble and the clouds moved in and the rains came pouring down. It's about 10° cooler now with a good breeze and I think it'll be okay.
I sat on the front porch and watched the rain and listened to the rumbling and was quite content. There's a waterfall in the mountains across the road hidden in the trees and as the rain slowed I could hear it pouring down.

Like @npub14jp…jhhl I gave up flying. My last flight was 2012 and I have never regretted it.
Her essay is worth reading and considering:
"... Over these nine years, not flying has become a quiet act of resistance. And on the rare occasions I share my choice with others, there is often apprehension, maybe even hostility. People imagine that my actions are somehow a comment on their own and this causes defensiveness and sometimes anger. I’m not self-righteous, I don’t think I have it all right. I still use Amazon. I’m not off-grid or zero-waste. I have ADHD and the back of my fridge is a food waste crime scene. But not flying, that’s something I can do and it’s the thing I’ve managed to stick to. And it’s had a hugely positive effect on my life ..."

Sadie and I just returned from our final walk of the day. I could see the waxing moon through a veil of clouds. As we walked, I watched the darker clouds creep up and engulf the light.
We are expecting rain in the next few hours. I won't appreciate any more hatching mosquitoes but the land will appreciate the water - and that's what's important.
The temperature today soared up to 90°F (32°C) with a dewpoint in the mid 60s. When I first moved to western Massachusetts in the 1990s this kind of weather was unheard of in the summer. Now it's the norm.
We spent most of the day inside with short walks for Sadie to do her business. Every time we encountered the shade of a tree, she would lie down in the cool grass. Neither one of us are summer people - give us autumn winds and winter snow.
