I was surprised a site was already using cascade layers and so were they. "I think that's …something tailwind does". Another team had never heard of terms like web components, Lighthouse, or caniuse. That's fine, of course. I understand that I'm in a very specialised bubble, like most of you, but I expected that a front end dev would've at least heard of some of these terms. Anyways, I don't know what to do with that insight. I just felt like sharing it with you. :) 2/2

Working with different teams as an external consultant I learned that many devs don't deal too much with native HTML, CSS, or JS. Building websites for them means using a framework, component library, or Tailwind. I knew that, but I was surprised how disconnected they were from the standards world. It's almost as if web development means something completely different to them. My suggestions mostly involved solutions in vanilla HTML, CSS, and JS, but I feel like often these weren't useful. 1/2

Three things you can do to make your talks better:
1. Don't refer to a slide without describing or reading it. Saying something like "and then you geht this" and pointing to the slide will only work for sighted people, who understand what you're showing, and sit close enough to read it.
2. Repeat comments and questions from the audience so that everyone can hear it.
3. If you use memes (please only do it sparingly) explain them. Don't assume that everyone knows and understands every meme.

Currently, you should be especially cautious when you read articles about accessibility by people who haven't written much or nothing about the topic before.

I always believed that designers _should_ know the basics of HTML and CSS. Having learned a bit more about design tools and systems recently I'm convinced that good designers _must_ know the basics of HTML, understand the possibilities and limitations of CSS, and most importantly how frontends are built.
You can't write a good recipe if you don't know the ingredients and how they're prepared.

I just tried to reset my discord password and I got this. The first image is the visual captcha challenge and the second image is the text alternative.
Who on earth believes that are appropriate challenges? For the first you need perfect eye-sight and dexterity, for the second a degree.
I hate CAPTCHA so much.

The latest version of Chrome comes with a new light-dismiss behavior for the dialog element, which enables a native click-outside feature. That's fantastic! Reading the announcement, I wondered how many ways there are to close a dialog element.
