@nprofile…r40u Though usually the old timezone continues to exist. So not setting the old timezone for the location in the first place is actually the issue...
Example: If you are living in Büsingen and set your timezone to Europe/Berlin, you are already doing it wrong!
It get's worse when you live in for example Donetsk as in that area the timezone changed from Europe/Kyiv to Europe/Moskow without actually creating a new one...
It also shows: Timezones are representing observation... 😕

@nprofile…ysal "Technik die Begeistert" - Scheint egal zu sein, ob es um die Elektronische Patientenakte oder um die BundID geht. Sobald IT etwas größer gerät, scheint das in Deutschland grundsätzlich im besten Fall nur mit extremsten Anlaufschwierigkeiten zu funktionieren.
Kostet dafür aber dann Summen, wo man sich fragt, wo die hingegangen sind. In die Produktqualität oder die Infrastruktur wohl eher weniger.

I am looking for a simple* userland IMAP library in PHP - no depencendy on ext-imap (for reasons!)
* as little dependencies as possible, slight abstraction of the protocol would be nice, PHP8.4 ready and... well... supported is a must!
Any pointers?
zetacomponents/Mail has a lot of non-IMAP stuff and is rather near at the protocol-level,
webklex/php-imap has a number of dependencies I'd rather not have as has directorytree/imapengine
I do not want to reinvent the wheel folks!

So interaction on other platforms is not an issue. So what is stopping people?
Fear of taking the first step and a too tight integration into workflows...
The biggest mistake IMO was for PHP to move away from their own git- and bugs-servers ...

Yesterday I had a dentist-appointment for a small "surgery". All done with local anesthetic.
After 3 hours or so everything was back to normal.
Today I get a call from the dentist whether everything is OK or whether I still have pain....
🤯
I know it's a default procedure for them. But it *does* make a difference to me. They acrually follow up and do not assume that everything will be OK and if not I'll call them....

Anyone here has any knowledge in pennsylvanian dutch (or any other of the german dialects in the US/America)?
I know that the pennsylvanian dutch is actually less dutch than more palatinate german. And I also know that most of the palatians that immigrated to america did so around the 1840s.
Here in the palatinate region there is a saying "Aller hop" meaning "Let's go" or "let's start".
My Question now is: Is that phrase also existent in "american german"?

SO I now have to download LibreOffice because Apples Numbers has issues with spreadsheets with more than 1000 rows....
And it tells me the CSV has 6000 rows...
(It actually has over 19k rows but hey 🤷)
Perhaps I should just pump it into an SQLite table....

I'd argue that some not unrelevant things are missing...
Like readonly allows you to write it once. Whereas private(set) allows you to write it many times. Which is only a small but perhaps not irrelevant difference 😁
And neither readonly nor private(set) are truly immutable.
you can still change a mutable object internally from the outside...
Does that make it less of a mess? Probably not 🙈

It is a bold assumption of a method that their return value matters in the wider scope of the application.
It is breaking the encapsulation of the function. You get something, you return something. Everything else is not your concern.
Separation of Concern comes to mind which this breaks.

@nprofile…944s Yes! I know that RFC 3986 specifies that `Future specifications and related documentation should use the general term "URI" rather than the more restrictive terms "URL" and "URN"`
Also the API does not make sense for URNs.
There is no host, there is no user- or password-part....
So the whole RFC is only targeted at URLs.
But I'll look forward to the final implementation and will then fiddle around with it...

@nprofile…944s WHATWG explicitly does not target URNs. They only target URLs.
Having them under the namespace URI provides false assumptions IMO.
And the whole RFC does mention URNs in the introduction as a subset of URIs but that is it! No further mention to extend the API to URNs later on, no examples, nothing!
And RFC3986 explicitly targets both, but no examples in the RFC. So I have to assume that they were just ... forgotten?

What I really hate is that PHP introduces a new URI API that doesn't handle URIs....
In the RFC (https://wiki.php.net/rfc/url_parsing_api) they explicitly break up the naming and specify that URIs contain URLs and URNs
But the later content only speaks about URLs - Not a single example using a URN. All the content is about Locators.
WHATWG also explicitly speaks about URLs - yet they are in the URI namespace....

How is that different from non-artificial intelligence?
So when AI-training is allowed to ignore licences and get the training material for free, then that surely means that every student worldwide also is not required to pay for any training material.

@nprofile…240e One thing I noticed: While yield is really awesome, it will still result in a huge array as the dataprovider is called *before* the test-execution and all values are stored in an array.
So while the yield provides some benefits of making the code more readable for the developer it does not - in this case - benefit the runtime by avoiding huge arrays.... 😕
At least that was the case with IIRC PHPUnit 10 and so far I didn't hear that that changed internally ...

The main thing is: A lot of people, when tasked with solving a problem, storm ahead and build a solution without looking left or right or checking whether this is a common problem that might have been solved somewhere else already? Possibly via a standard....
PIE helps with avoiding that as it promotes looking around to see whether someone else found a solution already.

The main issue I have is, that the FlattenException ignores all the additional information I have in my custom exceptions... 😕

From a different domain than the main website. WIth a generic "signature" (Your xyz team - literally!). WIthout DKIM, SPF, DMARK....
I almost threw it away because: SPAM...

We also render a diff of that generated file against the currently published one in CI so that changes become visible and can be addressed.
Optional additions are OK, removals not. But that is a thing for the code review....

In German typesetting there definitely are but I thought those rules apply similarily in other languages as well....
So having them doesn't mean the text was created by an AI. It just means it's typeset correctly....
If that wasn't the case before... Well... at least AI improved typesetting!

@nprofile…gd4r I am well aware of the difference between null and an empty string.
And understand that with strict types.
But *without* strict types, I am passing in a variable into a function. I'd expect the typejuggling to happen that is also used when comparing two values to one another.
As comparing null and an empty string is true I'd expect null then also.to become an empty string...
Again: I am not using strict typing! I WANT to shoot my foot! 🙈

I would have expected null to be converted to an empty string (like for comparisson)...
Clearly I am missing something....

@nprofile…2qq2 We had a few of those where I grew up. There was a mine for the raw material of porcelain. And they still had the tracks laid out with the decauville wagons still in use. And of course there were some.of those turntables.

@nprofile…ysal Als jemand, der mit Schusswaffen hantieren darf finde ich das sehr problematisch!
Der Einsatz einer Schusswaffe muss SEHR genau überlegt werden. Solange die Gefahr besteht, das Unbeteiligte zu Schaden kommen, bleibt der Finger gerade!
Mit dem Taser ist das ja nicht mehr so schlimm. Ergebnis: Er wird verstärkt eingesetzt. Mit allen negativen Folgen, die das hat.
Ausserdem löst es das Problem nicht! (Aber Herrn Dobrind es geht ja nicht um Problemlösung...)

When a "security researcher" with email address "something something ethical at whatever" reports that one is not using DNSSEC and one replies that we are aware of that and that we re not planing to do so for reasons and they then simply reply with

Sometimes I wonder whether we reached a point in the #PHP development where a "preprocessor" would help to cater for specific demands from different "fractions" of developers...
The "less characters are good" type could then write "phpx" files that get converted (and cached) to php files before execution.
similar one could write functional code in "phpf" files....
And like symfony generates a lot of code from the written code some tool could then generate PHP-code from these special files...
