My “main” fedi account is on my own personal server, otherwise I’d also have looked to migrate from the flagship instance. The only other reason I like sticking around here is because this account was created in 2018 so I get to pretend like I was one of the OG cool kids.

The arguments against Bsky being “actually decentralized” remain (Paul even points some of these out)…
1. Popular fediverse instances aren’t “winners”. What does that even mean in the AP context?
2. AT’s “practical decentralization” is still not REAL (yet?). What percentage of the user base is on the two juggernaut instances? Hardly meaningfully decentralized.
3. Will it exist beyond VC runway?
4. Paul admits to lingering deplatforming issues 😬

I think "engagement" as one dominant metric of how good social platform A is over platform B is overrated. I prefer, how good is my timeline? Do I enjoy the scroll? Am I seeing things *I* want to engage with? Am I saving/bookmarking things? Following links out? Boosting stuff I want others to see?
"Engagement" (on something I post), is a short-lived high, and not a reliable way to enjoy a social network in my experience. Build a good feed though and it'll almost always be enjoyable 👍
