I was an employee of Atari in 1987 and Activision in 1990-1991, when it used the parent name Mediagenic. (I also worked for Atari's founder in 1988-1989 and knew people who had worked for Imagic--with Activision the other big first indie developer--and Accolade.)
It's funny that you mention some of those games. I was technically a co-founder of Iguana Entertainment, which started in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara before moving to Austin and became part of Acclaim Entertainment in 1995, which was probably around when I first met Greg Fischbach. Iguana ported NBA Jam to the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, and developed Turok. I created the company's development system hardware and was the de facto operations manager until we grew large enough for me to delegate those functions. For Turok, I had to hire an electrician to add 20-amp 110VAC circuits for the 2 SGI Onyx workstations that Nintendo lent us as development systems.

I used Ubuntu for about 10 years.
But when they migrated to the snap package manager, I decided that they were no longer "reasonable".
I shopped for attractive alternatives, and for the last few years have been running Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE), which has been better overall. (Also: no asterisks in my TTY password entry.)

I think I see what's going here: the Trump gang's "Big Beautiful Bill" seems to have undermined one of those pesky "Generally Accepted Accounting Principles" (GAAP), specifically the "matching principle" that's supposed to make expenses offset gains derived from them.
Before Trump, we'd likely call Palantir's action "an accounting irregularity".

I've been an independent contractor for a long time. Now that my salesperson is retiring, I'm looking for work, and open to contract work or regular employment (i.e. "get a real job") in or near Sunnyvale, CA.
I have degrees in computer science and management, usually develop systems of electronic circuits and software, and have been the principal engineer for a startup that grew to about 170, and a project's principal hardware engineer within a company of about 130,000.

I've heard that careers in academic research are often described as "publish or perish".
The Baye-Dole Act of 1980 also gave universities the right to own the intellectual property created by their students, which I view as a huge conflict of interests that incentivized their participation in this broken system.
I recall an extreme case in which a Florida university asserted this right to strip an undergraduate of their patent, expel the student, charge the inventor with IP theft, and use that charge to revoke the former student's visa and seek their deportation.

Your "rugpull economy" is a perfect description.
It makes me think of Fitbit, which made a good product with their Ultra Tracker 2, which stopped working after they sold out to Google and started making worthless privacy-invading junk exclusively.
I also think of the Samsung laser printers that were good and cheap, before HP bought the division that was competing with its lucrative (but crummy) ink spitters. (HP used to be good before much of it was bought by Compaq.)

Your claim that the Chernobyl disaster killed only "dozens of people" is flawed.
There seems to be consensus that about 30 were killed immediately or in the immediate aftermath, but "long-term death estimates range from up to 4,000 ... with figures as high as 60,000".
That's 5000 "dozens".

I recall buying and using a package called something like Borland C/C++ for Windows; they had dropped the "Turbo" monicker and included a lot of printed manuals.
After experimenting with it a little, my employer pressed me into service creating its first Windows-based tools, which we used to create the video game NFL Quarterback Club. The first year our games were for Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, but my tools were used for many annual sequels. (Legacy code...)

I checked my local library's catalog for "Right-Wing Women" and it asked if I was searching for "bright young women". It appealed to my sense of humor, which said "No, I'm really not."

In my area, students started their new school year this week.
(It's not even halfway through August!)
I remember starting the school year in September, which left enough of the year for two 16-week semesters, 8 weeks for summer school, and still time to take August off with the family, like civilized nations do.

Many governments are long overdue to disqualify Microsoft Windows from use on publicly owner computers.
There are many reasons why they should. privacy concerns have been grow. But cost of ownership is about ten times higher than using FOSS, including Linux.
Many governments have known this for a long time.
