This Alby thing has me bummed. This is a hobby/passion project for me, not a business, and I don't really want to handle wallets in app. I don't want the responsibility/liability of holding other's sats on my server, so I'm trying to figure out what I'll do. If you had min=1 in your value block, then ipfspodcasting would.
op3 may be a better example. The stats they provide may be very valuable to you, so you want to make sure they're always getting the 1 sat so your stats are super accurate.
If the sats were more important than the stats, then you would just omit the min=1

Normalizing splits isn't that difficult.
Split A = 505
Split B = 495
Therefore 50.5% to A
(A / [A+B])
and 49.5% to B
(B / [A+B])
However, the fees is where it gets confusing.
A = 505
B = 495
C = 5 (fee)
D= 2 (fee)
Is A 50.5%
(A / [A+B]),
or is it 50.15%
(A / [A+B+C+D])
Is C, the 5 (fee), a 5% fee,
or is it a 0.5% fee
(C / [A + B])
or is it a .0496% fee

Part of the job of a podcaster is to share with their audience all the cool stuff their podcast is capable of. If as a podcaster you were talking about this cool picture, and told the audience that they can see the picture right now using any app that has 'chapters', and you really recommend CurioCaster, you'd get a portion of you audience downloading the new app just so they can experience this new thing called 'chapters' you keep talking about. FOMO is real.

I don't understand why setting up a Patreon or Paypal and asking your audience to go to one of those sites, create an account, enter their credit card info, and provide support is considered easy and normal, but asking them to use CashApp to fund an Alby wallet so they can boost is considered confusing. It's not hard, it's just new.

Would it make sense to create a new namespace called 'sandbox' or whatever to use for new tags that aren't adopted into the name space?
I'm asking this in light of a github discussion about removing podcast:image from the namespace because it's not widely used, and I don't think any of the apps support it.
Should we have a one year period with the early adopters to flesh out new tags in a sandbox so we can figure out if the tag is useful and be able to safely modify it before adopting it?

The whole thing with the name matters feels lazy to me. If you want to be a podcast educator and get paid for it, then do your job and educate. Nobody knew what a podcast or blog was until they were educated. Nobody knew how to subscribe to an RSS feed until they were educated, and nobody will know how to set up a lightning wallet until they're educated.

I was thinking something where we can request the fields we want would reduce the request size, because I usually just need Guid, art, title, and author for initial display.
I think graphql does something like this, but I'm sure rest can be used and we just put the fields we want in a query.

I wonder if something like chapters could remedy this to a degree.
For example, talk about the amazing chapter art being shown on your phone right now, really hype it up, make the listener feel like they're really missing out if they don't stop what they're doing to look at the artwork.
Now that they've re-engaged with their phone to look at the art, encourage them to boost and share. 🤔

That may be when Wavlake changed GUIDs and duplicated a bunch of feeds. They fixed it and I think those feeds got deleted eventually, so if you see a down tick, that would be it.

That's correct. The feedGuid is part of VTS.
Here's a potential solution that won't break other feeds. Move all of the singles over to self hosting, and maintain them as singles. This will preserve the feedGuids.
Create a new feed that is sort of like a greatest hits, and have that one have all the songs under one album.

Other way, though not quite as easy, download the RSS file from Wavlake, open it up in Notepad, then manually change the feed generator, enclosure urls, artwork urls, and value blocks.

Easiest way, use https://musicsideproject.com/importfeed, copy and paste the feed url, then import the feed. Now they can use MSP to edit their feed to change the enclosure urls, artwork urls, and value block, then download the new feed. GUIDs for existing items will remain the same.

But I'm thinking if I'm having this issue, then others might have the same issue, and could we use xml as an archival format for saving years worth of blogging in one file. 23mb is a big file, but could easily hold several thousand pages of text, so I'm just brainstorming on if xml is a good method for archiving blogs.

I'd like to download some of the blogs onto my own machine so I can read the content offline, and I was hoping there was maybe something like an archive feed that has 10 years worth of blogging that could be download as one large file instead of having to go to the actual blog page.

That chat in liveItem is vestigial from when I was initially expirementing with liveItem and trying to implement a chat room experience. I kept it in there because others had started implementing it , and I didn't want to break any of their apps, but I think podcast:chat (which is apparently also still an unofficial tag) is probably going to be the preferred way for chat.

@npub1909…myta from Podcast Guru pointed out that the liveValue example Github and the liveValue sent from The Split Kit are different. I'm changing the Github example to reflect it, but the liveValue should send the value as shown in the TSK example, with the the model key.
So, in any of your code, you should send and expect the value key to look like the TSK example.

I'm working with @npub1pa0…pfyr to create a script that will update your Value Time Splits in Sovereign Feeds. I'm going to publish it as an open source Javascript function so any of you who create your feed by hand can use it to quickly get the new feedGuids. I'm waiting to hear back from Michael to see what their plan with the guids is before I do anything to permanently change your feed.

If none of you have tried messing with your own node, then I encourage you to sign up at voltage.io and get a $12 a month node. Yep, it's going to cost you $12 a month. Then you have to fund it and balance the channels.
Try doing that, and I think you might appreciate more what exactly Alby is dealing with and be more supportive of what ever direction they decide to go.

If I'm understanding correctly, this would be connecting your node to Alby, then using the WebLN API? Because browsers require a plug-in, mobile websites become a sticky issue without the WebLN. I'd prefer WebLN, but end up using the oauth sign-in method because 80-90% of users are mobile.

Alby is about to start charging for high volume users. I don't have a problem with that. They should charge, they provide a valuable service. If it's reasonable, I'll continue to use them, because I don't want to balance channels and deal with node maintenance. I'm okay with keeping up to a million sats on a non-custodial wallet and transferring to my custodial wallet every so often.

@npub1ay8…46wf was working on an implementations, and so was @npub1pwl…5qzr for Peertube.
CurioCaster and The Split Kit also act as receivers of the socket.io.
The implementation is pretty easy. Set up a socket.io connection with the server in <podcast:liveValue /> then start listening for the 'remoteValue' event. It will send you a JSON string, which you parse to extract the current remote splits and live chapter info.

It's a kludge, and it's dirty, but you can see the newest releases. They don't auto update, so it's only from when I last ran my script, but it's something. I'll try to get something automated eventually, but this is something to get you started.

I can't hear American Pie by Don McClean without mentally hearing Starry Starry Night afterwards, and there's so many songs I'll hear that I haven't heard in 20 years, and I'll play the album and immediately every song comes back to me. It's like tracks were laid in my subconscious because of the order of the songs.

Nothing stands out that needs to be corrected. I'd like a fresh set of eyes to see if it's clear that the article is encouraging using one Singles feed with multiple singles as songs/episodes rather than multiple feeds of of one song/episode. I really like the aspect of subscribing to an artists feed and being notified if they upload a new single.

Pragmatically, hand curating feeds to add the medium tag makes sense, especially if we're trying to build the music collection in the index.
Principally, we believe the feed is the source of truth or we don't. If we shim in tags and wallets for podcasters, we remove the incentive to find a better podcast host.
We're manipulating the free market by shimming in tags rather than incentivizing the hosts to provide superior features through the loss/gain of customers.

I want Wavlake to be a success, but only if they're willing to play along with everyone instead of riding the coat-tails of what we're building with RSS v4v music and creating this hybrid walled garden they've been building.
I don't think it's what's best for the musicians at this point, but it's up to the musicians and listeners to decide what value system they support.
As for me and my house, we support interop and ANY music feed or LN address is welcome.

1/8th of the music feeds are non Wavlake. It was 1/9th a few weeks ago, and 1/10th a month ago. It's a good trend.
We'll just have to keep building and educating, which will either force Wavlake to adapt or make them insignificant in the space.
Hopefully musicians are the Independent lot I've always known them to be and will choose wisely.
They're also playing with fire with the iOS app, Nostr integration, and calling the boosts zaps. Apple already spoke w/ Damus.

This would only apply to boosts for me. For sats, I store fractional sats and send whenever an address accumulates 3 sats. For boosts however, I send immediately. For something like a 2 sat boost (cheap ass), it's very likely that no one would actually get the sats since after doing the split calculations, the amount to every person would fall under 1 sat.

@npub1qf7…jj9d the way I'm handing it is this. If it's a fee, I don't care if it's a base or remote, I pull it out and don't apply any split percent. I figure fees are for things like stats. Then I pay the full amount to all fees. Then I apply the base/remote percent to the splits. I also have a rule that anything under 1 sat is dropped, so even a 1% fee won't see anything under a 100 sat payment.

I thought I had SF pulling the channel level value block if the episode didn't have one, but maybe not. Either way, for the VTS to work in most apps, the episode will need some value recipients, or else the app will fall back to the channel level value block.
I think they should parse the VTS without recipients regardless and fallback to the channel recipients if none are in the episode, but VTS is so new I understand why they haven't updated the logic.

It depends. If the artist is choosing to host their music on Wavlake, then a boost from LNBeats goes to the Wavlake wallet because that's what's in the feed. However, there are several artist that are self hosting their music, and the boost would go to the splits as defined in their value split.
RSS Blue also has a few music feeds with the ability to define the splits.
LNBeats shows any music feed in the Index, not just Wavlake feeds.

I'm adding a Featured landing page to LNBeats. Any music feed that has Sovereign Feeds, Music Side Project, or LNBeats in the value block will automatically be added to the featured page. The order will be randomized, but that's how you get on the featured page if you're interested.

Because I love self-hosters so much. Self hosted feeds get the top spots in LNBeats. I display them in a random order each time you visit, but they're always at the top of the list.

I tried this out, and I'm getting the errors as noted in this screen shot. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm sending an object of podcast guids with each guid having an array of episode guids, but getting an error that states 'Invalid parameters. You must pass an array of guids.'

Can you look into what's causing the parser to choke on this feed? It's being parsed fine by the Livewire Validator, SF, and Podverse, so I suspect it's something on the PI side.
