Retirement accounts are retarded. I’m considering paying the taxes and getting rid of all of mine.
I don’t care about the tax benefits. They exist at the pleasure of a government that is structurally bankrupt. As a millennial in the USA it is a safe bet that the government will undergo another crisis before I retire and that they will steal/nationalize any assets within their reach.
The IRS already knows I have Bitcoin (regrets) so my biggest risk is that they gate my passport and tell me I have to pay unrealized capital gains or I can’t leave. But under those circumstances the mask is off and it becomes clear that their proposed taxation is theft. (Like the scene in Atlas Shrugged when they torture John Galt). I still retain sovereignty and have the right to say no and accept the consequences. In a retirement account, they just take it.
I’ll take sovereignty, please.

I haven’t been but we’ve been all over Panama. We have our kids in Waldorf school and there’s a Waldorf community in Costa Rica that looks like it’s either amazing or a total cult. Can’t tell from online research. We’d like to go but every time we get a break for travel we have business to attend to in Panama so it keeps drawing us back in. Even though it’s close it adds a lot of extra travel days to add Costa Rica to the itinerary and kids don’t like travel days.

I own a chemical import and distribution company in the US. I’ve been in the business since 2006. I’ve never seen anything like this. Consumer prices, especially for food, are structurally fucked for at least the next 18 months. We might be independent on oil in theory but prices are set globally. The shortages are showing up in propylene derived product now but fertilizers are where the real crisis hits. Not for a while though and by the time you see it at the store it’s months too late to do anything about it.

I run a business and sell real things. I need to hold it between accepting and spending it. If I can’t verify the supply, I can’t trust what I’m holding. If I can’t trust what I’m holding, I won’t hold it. If nobody holds it, it has no monetary premium and no liquidity — which is exactly what we see. It’s not just blind adherence to a book I read, it’s a deep understanding of praxeology and Austrian economics.
Velocity without holding is just a hot potato. Transactions don’t create monetary premium — deferred consumption does.

This is a clean idea and the timing is right. A few thoughts on why it works and where the real value is:
Why this is a good business, not just a Bitcoin project
Rollo and ShipStation make money on the spread between their negotiated carrier rates and what they charge customers. That margin is real — often 20-40% below retail USPS/UPS rates at volume. The software is just the interface to capture that spread. So the underlying business model is proven and profitable. Bitcoin is the differentiation, not the foundation risk.
The customer is already defined
Bitcoin circular economy businesses — Nostr merchants, Shopify stores accepting BTC, podcast merch shops, physical goods sold on platforms like Bitrefill or Zaprite — all have the same problem. They earn sats, then have to convert to USD just to ship. That’s friction, a taxable event, and philosophically annoying. You solve a real pain point for a passionate and underserved niche.
The mechanics work
You’d use something like OpenNode, BTCPay Server, or Strike’s API on the payment side. Customer pays invoice in sats. Your backend converts just enough to USD to cover the carrier API call (USPS, EasyPost, or Shippo as your aggregator layer). You keep your spread in sats. Net: you’re running a legitimate arbitrage on shipping rates and staying as Bitcoin-native as operationally possible.
The Zaprite/BTCPay angle
This slots perfectly into existing Bitcoin commerce infrastructure. BTCPay Server already has a shipping plugin ecosystem. A focused, well-branded shipping product that integrates natively with BTCPay storefronts could get distribution almost for free through that community.
Where the moat builds
The moat isn’t the Bitcoin payment layer — that’s replicable. The moat is volume. Every label you sell deepens your carrier negotiation position. Early community adoption (Nostr, Bitcoin Twitter, podcasters with merch) gets you to volume faster than a mainstream launch would, because Bitcoiners are loyal to circular economy businesses.
The honest risk
Carrier API relationships require some business legitimacy and volume commitments. EasyPost and Shippo are the friendly on-ramps — they handle the carrier relationships so you don’t have to negotiate directly with UPS on day one. That’s your starting point. The real work is customer acquisition and keeping the label margins healthy.
The name writes itself: SatShip or StackAndShip or honestly just something clean like Postage.sats (not a real domain standard but you get the vibe).
You’re right that shipping is a foundation stone. If a circular economy is going to function, physical goods need to move. This is a picks-and-shovels play on Bitcoin commerce growing up. The right builder with existing relationships in the Bitcoin merchant community could probably get to ramen profitability inside 12 months.

FREE BUSINESS ISEA FOR BUILDERS:
A shipping service like Rollo or ShipStation that is Bitcoin native.
The model: get set up as a shipping aggregator with USPS, FedEx and UPS. Get volume discounts. Set up software for Bitcoin native companies to be able to buy and print shipping labels with Bitcoin.
I think Rollo charges a small per label fee, sells printers, label paper and software subscriptions and takes a spread on the volume discounts. You take payment in Bitcoin. Convert your costs to cover each transaction is USD and keep some percent of profits in sats.
We need to start moving essential services over to Bitcoin native companies. Shipping is the foundation stone of online peer-to-peer retail.
This is just an overlay and eventually we want to orange pill behemoths like UPS directly, but it could be a fun project to build sats flow for the right builder.

Ok longish post, but hang with me.
I was listening to this podcast with @nprofile…45tu @nprofile…e9aq
Jeff pointed out that for every unit of productivity gained by the free market, fiat has to offset it by printing. I’d never considered before that there is a ratio between MY productivity gains and the amount the control system has to print. When they do that, they are siphoning my productivity away from me and pouring it out on the top of the pyramid. I’m a little more than halfway up the pyramid so some of it trickles down to me. Very little reaches the base. It’s wildly immoral.
That got me thinking about AI. (At this point I’m only half listening and half puzzling through all this so I’m not sure if these were Jeff’s ideas or mine). AI is producing productivity gains like the world has never seen before. So they have to print to offset that, right? But we’re not seeing major changes in the trend yet. They’re printing at roughly the same level as before and AI has entered it exponential phase.
Something doesn’t fit.
They have to overcome this boost of productivity but they aren’t doing it with printing. Then it hit me. They have another lever! They can keep deflation from taking hold by destroying energy infrastructure and causing a spike in input costs for everything downstream of oil. Literally capital destruction through meaningless war to keep the abundance of the free market from overwhelming their control grid.
It’s not inflation in the strict Austrian sense that “inflation is everywhere and always a monetary phenomenon”, but it directionally has the same result. Prices rise to offset productivity gains flowing through the market and the gains accrue to “the right” people instead of the creators of the productivity.
In that sense, the war in Iran is not just a war on the Iranian people, it is a war on everyone. It’s cliché to say that all wars are bankers wars, but I finally understand viscerally what that means.
Destroying capital is a short term fix. You can only do so much of it before you loose control of the machine. Printing is their special power and eventually they will revert to it. We are under attack but if you hold Bitcoin in self custody, as they spray you with the water cannon, you can capture every bit of that water in a balloon and eventually walk away with all the energy they wasted as they lie gasping for breath.
