Something about anonymity that allows the worst of us to rise. But yet, in an online space you should still be free to be anonymous.
Now that AI bots are showing up I’m not sure how this goes. Feels like we are entering Plato’s cave as our reality gets warped digitally (keeping the Greek Philosopher trend alive).
There are other issues, but that seems to be a big one in my mind.

Don’t believe that at all. If true, they wouldn’t have raised all these needy dependent kids. Who then raised even more needy dependent kids.
Plus, they wouldn’t vote for all of these awful candidates and believe all forms of media in the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s.
There is no good generation of emotional stability. We’re all flawed. The key is…is there a generation that is less flawed that is actually capable of doing something?

I haven’t. Don’t trust myself to set up something that can do its own thing on my hardware. I’m sure I could figure it out.
What are the primary use cases you have found to be most useful?
Because for me, I’d want to explore ways to either automate some of my work or to do research on topics.
Also, I don’t need specifics - but it also seems like it’d be expensive going through Claude or GPT. So I’m curious general costs.
I prefer Claude to GPT but I know the best is local if possible. Which I doubt I have the hardware for.

Completely agree. The only thing I’ll say is that 99% of humans have been conditioned to think a specific way. So if it all disappears rapidly our ability to adapt quickly to economic change in mass has historically not been great.
IMO the current result will be a lot more tik toks and podcasters before something meaningful arises because we haven’t been challenged in that way in awhile.
And/Or more people will reach their hand out. Then political power has incentive to cater to them.
So while it’d be nice if people were independent - we should also be willing to help people find their way. If we don’t I think the results could be far worse.

You’re absolutely right. But it’s in everything now for better or worse. So I don’t think it matters, not in a nihilistic way. Just that we might need to think there might be other solutions, if we’re creative enough.
But I don’t know enough about AI development and what these companies can and can’t do. I just assume.

I might be an idiot. But all these posts saying Openclaw and AI are doing all of this work. Does anything actually run better? Where are these new apps? What is “productivity”? Seems like our standards are slipping so we are just ok with mediocre results. Then we say how amazing the future will be.
And if AI is just improving an invisible layer underneath things already built…well that seems pointless, because most things today don’t run as well as they did.

Curious your thoughts on the duality of technology and how if it can create “liberation” it can also create the other side of that coin.
The knowledge curve gap is too large for the basic individual so they will never join. Can we figure out a way to ease in the liberation and then scale the difficulty once more are “on”.
But then that in of itself becomes its own cave at some point in time. Any ideology seems to at some point eat itself. Is that a problem for around 2140?

Unsolicited personal experience: I read philosophy books, but one thing I’ve found as these books are dense and have shifted my perspective. I’ve enjoyed reading more creative classics with a new lens.
So adding in classic books with a new angle gives them such interesting depth. Plus it allows you to have a more enjoyable/fun read to break up the dense read.

I agree with you and disagree. My fiance doesn’t want children. I am indifferent. And what I’ll say is - if you want to see things improve. Fewer people having kids is a net positive. Think of it like one step back to take two steps forward, if we don’t eff it up before then.
Sounds weird to apply to reproduction - but we desperately need to take a step back and rediscover ourselves.
So don’t be mean to those that are just here temporarily. Just let em be. Just focus on laying the groundwork for others to not repeat our mistakes.

I think you’re seeing the feedback loop of Millennials, Gen Z, and immigrants who were sold an American dream. It’s actually pretty incredible to see it conspire this way.
But the hardcore capitalists don’t see the failing monetary system as the problem either. It’s very weird.
No one is speaking the same language and no one knows the root causes. They are reacting to the surface level consequences. Fascinating to watch.

I think so!
The analogy I came cross with the river was basically: The river can be good as long as it has water, but if the water is high due to flooding, or rapid, or the water is low - while those might not be good. It’s still can be considered a good river.
So the contexts change its active nature - but its base nature is still a good river.
I’m still figuring it all out myself if I’m honest.

A few thoughts. I generally agree. But Parents want children to respect their authority, but when you look at the world why do they deserve respect?
Also, younger parents seem to be really immature these days which also I think will be interesting when the children start becoming their own person. Immaturity doesn’t respond well to rebellious attitudes.

Haha. True. But in this day and age, most people don’t realize the context dependent part it seems.
So what I was trying to say in a clunky way.
Weaponized misunderstanding. I actually understand what someone is saying/experiencing. But I disagree with the mindset lens they are viewing that experience. So it might appear dismissive to someone, but it’s just how I view the world and problems. It still leads to exhaustive circle conversation, because if we have a different philosophy to tackle challenges…we might never agree. But it’s not actually miscommunication. It’s just a different view/angle of the problem.

Yup. I’m slowly trying to engage less with X because it’s not a fix…
You can go down a sci-fi rabbit hole of conspiracy if you want here.
Real-world depopulation. Online world population (AI) and if it happened slowly enough, no one would notice. Sources eventually become AI bots, harder to tell what’s really happening. The real people will have no idea.
But that’s a really negative dark way to think about it. I’d like to believe in humanity and it’s ability to come up with other ways of communicating. But I dip the toes in crazy ideas just to not feel too comfortable with any idea.

Saw this about #bitcoin and you think it’s a great point until you realize that most of the technological advances have led to higher user costs…
Taxis are sometimes cheaper than Ubers now. That never happened 7 years ago. Get us in with cheap prices. Hooked on convenience. Cost goes up.
AirBNBs are hotels without the room service. So you now pay extra for cleaning OR have to clean yourself. It’s not cheaper.
Amazon is still cheaper than in store usually. But now when you want to go to a store…a lot of them have closed down leaving fewer options.
Netflix was cheap with great wide ranging selections. Now it’s expensive and a lot of great shows are on different services you have to pay for.
So this makes me wonder. What are the downsides/negatives of #Bitcoin that we are failing to see?

There is a massive psychological attack underway.
Trump and/or his followers believe he is the chosen one. (If true, that is scary. If false, that is scary)
The dems/elites are a satanic cult. (If true, that’s scary. If false, it’s scary how many people believe it.)
The concept of money has been under attack since #Bitcoin, but the awakening of inflation and the inability to purchase a home has really undercut the psychology of money.
We are under an attack because people who do not want or can not think about these things in a reasonable way will follow the person who has the best rhetoric towards their beliefs. We have a system built on limited truth.
I don’t have solutions. But I do see how we are being attacked and yet both sides just blame the other.

Both can be true.
I’d fear for humans overall because the vast majority of people don’t want to be creative or to work hard. They want what is easy. Easy grades, easy job, easy money. If AI provides that…then critical thinking goes down in the masses.
Services and productivity going up is excellent for those that want to benefit from that, either as a company or as a user.

Most believe believe politics is a show. I’m more convinced that we (the people) are just being messed with.
The fact that anyone is siding with the Democrats, Republicans, or the Trumplicrats is mind blowing to me.
There is no way that what is happening isn’t just a large distraction to create apathy in those that just want to live their life and create anger in those that “care” about these topics.
Civil discussion any topic from both sides is dead. Democracy dies in the dark and they are creating a huge shadow. Yet no one cares or notices. The general population is just clinging to their side hoping they will be saved by people who clearly don’t care about the general population.
Not saying all of the elected officials are bad, but in a broken system you might as well get what’s best for you, because you can’t fix it from the inside alone.
