Once drained, the next step, per the tutorial, is "stick your finger in the impeller". There's a bit in there that goes round and round and washing machines get fucked because something blocks it. Me and the missus had discussed the probable blockage. I had accused her of it probably being either screws that she carries round with her always, or her hair. It was suggested that maybe it was random fruit seeds because I sometimes put muslins in the wash.

I am truly awed by the absorbent capacity of the tena pad. Each one swelled to more than three times its size. They were carefully placed into a plastic bag for disposal. The bag of 16 washing machine sodden tena pads weighed somewhere between eight and ten kilos.
That's at least half a litre of water per pad. I am definitely taking these with me to piss into in future, much more dignified than a she-wee.

We have a lot of boxes of tena pads. We bought in bulk in advance of my partner's surgical recovery and it turned out they weren't necessary. And so I fetched them from deepest storage, and we began lining the baking tray with them to slowly drain the washing machine.

Anyway, the capacity of a baking tray is not very much. It holds maybe about 15 seconds of trickle before you have to veeeerry gingery pick it up off the floor and empty it into the sink. So we needed to be more efficient. This was where I became helpful.

For those of you who have never had to fiddle with the drain on a washing machine, there is a little bit at the bottom that you can open up. If you then twiddle it, it will start letting water out of the machine, trickling like a tap. It will go all over the floor unless you catch it.
Now the thing is, the water comes out from about an inch above the floor. So if you don't want to piss an entire wash cycle of water over your kitchen, you need to get a baking tray under it.
