Thank God they stopped doing this in the 70s, along with MKULTRA, and Gladio.

If you’re a person concerned about being targeted for surveillance wouldn’t allowing phones in faraday bags in the home subject you to potential audio monitoring if one is surreptitiously commanded to listen in once internet connection is lost, generate speech to text records, and then send them back to the mothership once internet connection is restored?

Gotta be jacking me real well with that $30 / bottle lube if you’re trying to convincingly say that the Canadian government will be able to enforce this shit in Alberta, British Columbia, or The Yukon. Talk to Canadian gun owners sometime. They live in the second largest country, and basically all of them are domiciled within an hour of the US border. Sounds like plenty of them still have automatics buried in the glacially scarred northern parts of the provinces / territories.

Sounds like they’re just gonna create a more resilient market, and fuel the provinces’ desire to secede and enshrine the RKBA.

Seems like the most First-Worldly sorta problem to bitch that your friend is only a couple standard deviations above the norm. We should happily recommend gold and silver to people who don’t have the time or patience to grok bitcoin.
Sound money is the goal, even if Bitcoin is the best tool. The gold & silver / crypto fight has to be perpetuated and amplified by the intelligence agencies / banking cartels. Don’t make the rest of us look like we’re in a cult.

Seems like that assertion upset you. Yes, I could spend the better part of an hour tracking down the references to build a preponderance of evidence that would credibly illustrate my point, and usually am willing to share my observations and humbly accept feedback on their internal consistently, but, for some reason, I don’t feel like thoughtfully writing a dissertation to respond to your needlessly bitchy contention.
This be surprising, but I actually don’t give a fuck what OS you run, or whether you have the modicum of situational awareness to realize that the same intelligence agencies who’ve perpetrated some of the most extreme attacks ever committed against humanity and civil liberties might have more than a pressing a passing interest in compromising FOSS.

Seems cynical to suggest following that lead is necessary. Women must seriously still not comprehend how horny we are. When I went to college up north I used to see girls shivering between parties in the skimpiest goddamn outfits in below freezing weather with 30mph gusts, and I just wanted to let them know, “You could wear sweatpants to these shindigs, and I’d still be able to tell what you’re packing underneath, and want to hit it.”

Hiding your history from ad agencies at least gives you some semblance of privacy, and even if intel agencies run most VPN’s the more people use them, the more demand there will be for them. The more demand there is for them, the more likely some of them won’t be compromised.
None of that really matters though until the surveillance state obviously results in the death of enough people for the masses to realize the routing of your traffic means fuck-all if it’s running on closed-source hardware that’s backdoored at that level, and we all demand computers with secure enclaves that don’t use microcode to execute important cryptographic functions.
The Snowden leaks forever ago showed us that most hard-drives have compromised black-box firmware, and, unless you’re running that SATA connection through something without it, like USB 2, that hard drive has direct memory access.
If I wanted to cheat and get into even the superlative autistMan’s computer that was running an OS he coded himself from scratch I’d just write a simple script for the hard drive that analyzes, say the first 100 characters that are typed onto a computer after boot, and stores the commonalities.
Most people with active Intel Management Engines or AMD Platform Security Processors already have their computers remotely backdoored through those systems, but a hard drive’s direct memory access allows the intel agencies to even get at the passwords of most people running Coreboot and Libreboot if they have physical access.

Not contesting your overarching thesis, but the idea that people used to only live until 30 is skewed because of the past prevalence of childhood mortality. People who made it past adolescence in pre-modern epochs regularly achieved the life expectancies we experience today.

Jesus was a tool of social control invented by the Flavian court to give rebellious Jews, whose devout monotheism was successfully resisting disintegration into the syncretistic homogeneity of Greco-Roman paganism, a religious context for submissive servitude to the Roman state, but kudos for feeding the likely troll’s initial off-topic comment, and picking the low-hanging fruit of Islam being bullshit👍

It converts the 0s and 1s into the analog signal you hear. It’s the first, and usually weakest part of the chain. Upgrade that and you might hear some detail above 128 kps😉

• Speaks: That’s subjective. Apart from studio monitors speakers aren’t designed to reproduce signals accurately, and engineers are going to massage their frequency response to suit the target / range of consumer(s).
Can probably think of speakers like buying old prime lenses for cameras. Are you gonna benefit from spending $800 on something made with modern design and manufacturing? Yes. Will a model that was top of the line in the late 80’s that you found for a bargain be fine for casual listening? Absolutely.
• Preamps: No idea. All my speakers I listen to music through are active, and have internal, matched preamps. Never went down this rabbit hole.
• DACs: Easiest element to be evaluate scientifically. Start by looking at a graph of the frequency response of any potential DAC, which anything worthwhile will have in the tech specs, and look for ones that are the most flat up to 20 kHz. You also want to make sure that any DAC you spend money on has an accurate clock that can synchronize with the source you’ll use it with.
This is the weakest link in most signal chains, and budget DACs have come a long way from where they were 20 years ago, when most everything had muddy lows and a shrill upper range. This is one of the reasons for the common misconception that analog audio sounds better than digital (which are all worth understanding).
Honestly any halfway-decent, dedicated DAC is going to be a big enough upgrade to be noticeable even while playing shittily mastered pop music with a squashed dynamic range over stock speakers in a car driving down the highway.
If you want a recommendation look into FiiO’s products. They make Android-based Digital Audio Players that can be used as standalone DACs over USB or Bluetooth. Haven’t looked at their lineup in years, but 8 years ago I paid $99 for one of their DAPs that ran circles around the DAC in my studio.

2025-11-26 19:44:49 UTC

No shame. Would take decent speakers with a high quality DAC over the converse all day.

2025-11-26 19:38:20 UTC

- reply

Maybe if you listen to music through a moldy potato 128 kps is sufficient.

2025-11-26 19:36:14 UTC

- reply

There’s an obvious difference between 96 and 128 kps. Seems like the limit of perception’s gotta be at least 256 - 320 kps.
