Well to emphasise again, my knowledge is also limited and probably gets quite a bit wrong. But my interpretation is that relays keep an eye on PDSes, so they don't talk to each other, and PDSes don't "use" them. As I understand it, AppViews (like the Bluesky app, or Eurosky's app) subscribe to them to learn when data they're interested in (eg Bluesky-shaped data) is posted on any PDS (whether run by Bluesky, Eurosky, or anyone else).

In my own (limited) understanding, their relay would still pull up Bluesky posts from other PDSes? I assume that they're using the same lexicon.
But yes, DMs are not on PDSes, and the dns-like thingy for atproto I think is also under US control.
Of course Mastodon doesn't need a Eurostodon, because we already have a European foundation 😄 More resources would be nice though.

I now officially have contributed code to Firefox with the release of version 152!
It was just a minor change, but after over four years of working at Mozilla, I'm still happy to have finally achieved that milestone.

I haven't read the article yet, but AFAIK Wikipedia has had ways to download the full archive for a long time already, and yet AI companies kept DoS'ing them instead. So a direct deal seems like a good thing, especially if that also includes funding Wikipedia. The content was always licensed and intended to spread far and wide.

I think this is the right attitude, because I feel like people might be afraid of something that's not going to happen. As I understand it, what folks are looking at is adding an AI Window, which will work similarly to Private Browsing — i.e. you can explicitly open it, or even use it as the default, but if you don't, nothing changes.
*That* window would be the "AI browser".

True, but Node is versioned with no forwards-compatibility commitments, and is a runtime that the writer of the code usually chooses which version to run. With standardisation, we can get those forwards-compatibility commitments, cross-browser compatibility, and hopefully also better performance, which would be pretty neat. With how limited the syntax additions are, that sounds like a good trade-off to me!
(And Node would benefit as well, of course.)

Right, but is that a decision the browsers take unilaterally, i.e. without standardisation? Do they use TypeScript to do the type stripping? Which version would they use?? What if TS introduces breaking changes?

I'm confused about the difference. As I understand it, the proposal specifies locations in the syntax tree that the interpreter should ignore (just like comments; the proposal used to be called "types as comments"). Type stripping removes parts of the syntax tree before running it — in other words, it's telling the interpreter to ignore those parts.
I don't see what the practical difference is?

There's probably no harm in there, but it's not currently under consideration in the European Parliament, so MEPs can't do much yet. Right now it's the Council, i.e. the national governments, that is discussing it, and so national governments are the ones to reach out to.
The German one in particular is an important vote that isn't locked in yet.

Fun fact: Dutch people often make the same mistake in Dutch, except for possessive pronouns, which don't get apostrophes (with some exceptions). People even call that "the English disease", because it's likely to be carried over from English.

I feel like people should just consider enums to be deprecated anyway. Avoids new runtime behaviour, and there's a good alternative in literal string unions anyway.

If you want to get fancy you could use https://microformats.org/wiki/rel-license, but yeah, as long as the data (i.e. the fact that the starter pack author agreed with the licence) is there, making it available can always be solved afterwards.
As for the 500, I got it when trying to add @npub1fj0…lek4, for example.

Really cool! I have one feature request: the ability to add a Creative Commons licence to a Starter Pack. That way, if Mastodon (or other Fediverse software) adds native support for them, existing starter packs with the right licence can be auto-imported.
I also ran into a couple of 500 errors, or existing handles that couldn't be found (mostly on non-mainstream servers). I don't know if there's any helpful info I can provide, or if there are server logs.

Compared to basically every other Android phone, I'd definitely recommend it. iPhones have terrible repairability, but OK-ish longevity, I think? And I do believe it's feasible to have repair shops replace an iPhone's battery, no?
There's also the consumer activism vote-with-your-wallet considerations, of course, for which using a Fairphone is definitely the best choice, and honestly you'll get a fine phone.

My only smartphones have been Fairphones (1, 2 and now a 4). Repairability is good, but it's not a silver bullet: a degraded battery is easy to fix, but some things aren't easily fixable, and sometimes it's just hard to find the culprit. My FP2 lasted five years with some parts replacements, but was very slow at the end, and I wasn't sure what the cause was.

Interestingly contacting authors to request an RSS feed usually is a bit too high of a hurdle for me, but I did find the motivation to write a project to create RSS feeds with a couple of CSS selectors, which I'm now somewhat regularly using: https://feed-me-up-scotty.vincenttunru.com
