Cloudillo's promises are certainly not false.
People concerned about privacy when a DNS lookup is called can encrypt their DNS. This could become a built-in feature of Cloudillo if there is demand for it.

Version 0.8.13 is out!
A few things we're happy about from the last stretch of work:
Calendar and Contacts, talking to the apps you already use. Two new built-in apps shipped — Calendar and Contacts — and they speak the same standards your iPhone calendar and Thunderbird address book already speak (CalDAV and CardDAV, if you want to look it up). Point your existing apps at your Cloudillo account and they sync. No exporting, no juggling files, no "well, I guess I'll keep using Google for that one thing." Your data lives on your server, and the apps you already love just see it.
Communities are starting to click. This is the release where they stopped feeling like a placeholder and started feeling like somewhere you'd actually hang out. Invite people through a real invite dialog. Approve or decline join requests. Pin the communities you care about to your sidebar, and get a quick peek at the ones you haven't pinned yet from the same spot. Group invites now show up as proper messages, so it's clear who's inviting you and to what. There's also a friendlier onboarding flow: the "your community needs verifying" reminder only nags the leaders who can actually do something about it. And posts can now go to one community without going to the whole internet — which is what most people meant by "share" all along.
Connecting across servers feels less weird. When two Cloudillo servers reconnect, they catch up on the activity they missed. Suspended profiles are handled gracefully. Talking to someone on a different server now behaves the way you'd expect it to behave — same as email between Gmail and your friend's mailbox, but for collaboration.
Better tools for people running a Cloudillo for friends, family, or a small org. Set defaults for everyone and override them per person. Remove a user gracefully or wipe them entirely. When email sending breaks, the test button now tells you why instead of shrugging. And new accounts get their welcome email only once the domain is fully set up — no more "click here to log in" emails arriving before login actually works.
Smaller things that add up:
- Prezillo handles PowerPoint files now (import and export)
- File uploads are faster and use less memory
- Notifications panel got a real redesign — grouped by date, with actions you can take right there
- Password strength bar on signup, because we'd been meaning to
- Friendlier handling of profiles from other servers — Always trust, Ask me, or Never. Browsing across servers stops feeling sketchy.
- The files panel can now browse shared folders that live on a friend's server, with a proper back button
What's next: beta. The next few releases will look less like "here's a new app" and more like "the rough edges are gone." Fewer headline features, more polish — finishing what's already there, smoothing flows, fixing the things that make you go "huh, that's weird." If something's been bugging you, this is a great time to tell us.
Big thanks to everyone running their own server, kicking the tires, and reporting the strange corners. A federated network gets a lot less weird when there's more than one server in the room.

We've been busy. Here's what landed in Cloudillo since 0.8.11:
Inline commenting on wiki pages. You can now leave comments on specific blocks in Notillo, with threaded replies and a side panel. There's also a new "comment" access level — share a document so people can view and comment, but not edit.
Markdown and XLSX import. Drag in a .md file and it becomes a wiki page (with wiki links resolved). Got a spreadsheet? Calcillo now handles XLSX import and export via ExcelJS.
Share links got smarter. Deep links into specific wiki pages, presentation auto-start links for Prezillo, and share link reuse so you're not creating duplicates.
Customizable app menu. Drag and drop to pick which apps show up in your app bar — the rest are a tap away under "more".
App trust badges. Microfrontend apps now show verified/unverified indicators, so you know what you're running.
Plus: better file browsing with search and filters, smart upload that detects convertible files and asks what you want to do, manifest-driven app registry replacing the old hardcoded config, and a bunch of backend improvements for faster real-time sync.

Cloudillo update — here's what landed today in 0.8.8
The big one: Cloudillo now has a built-in reverse proxy. You can host your own sites and web services behind your Cloudillo node — with automatic Let's Encrypt certificates, WebSocket forwarding, and a management UI in the admin panel. Basically, your #Cloudillo instance just became a proper gateway for all your #self-hosted stuff.
QR code connect — We added a business card dialog with a scannable QR code. Show yours, scan theirs, done. No fumbling with handles or typing addresses at meetups.
CRDT performance work — We're reusing Yjs client IDs via Web Locks now, which prevents the state vector from growing out of control. Calcillo strips default cell properties from the CRDT, and Ideallo's export format is more compact. Documents are leaner.
Calcillo & Ideallo exports — Both the #spreadsheet and the #whiteboard now support #JSON export. Useful for backups or migrating #data.
Document duplication — You can now duplicate collaborative documents (spreadsheets, whiteboards, task lists, etc.) directly from the file manager. Handy for templates or branching off a copy to experiment with.
Plus a pile of fixes: notification UI rework with filtering and dismiss, service worker caching for faster loads, infinite scroll retry loops, guest session thumbnail issues, spreadsheet awareness glitches, and cache busting for app updates.
