you mention pruned nodes and lighting in a sentence doesnt make sense. pruned nodes are not useful.
full node operator = bitcoin user. meaning supporting full node operators means supporting bitcoin users.
consumers suppose to run their own full nodes. easily in a useful way.
useful means wallets, lightning, explorers, and more.
separation of concerns parts is miss leading, bitcoin core has a frontend that is outdated that is a fact. nobody tells you to fuse backend and frontend together in a spaghetti codebase.
millions of funding for doing nothing useful.
we still dont have a nice node implementation that has a nice frontend as well.
i think you can afford a guy making a nice frontend.
all we have is a shitty gui, and messy backend with bugs popuping from everywhere.
core devs doesnt prioritize full node operators. they dont care about bitcoin users (full node operators).
they act like bitcoin is a single computer in the sky.
decentralized in bitcoin means, you dont trust someone else. everybody has their own bitcoin land, their own chain, their own mempool, their own node, their own ledger that they can check. if you are not using your own node you are not using bitcoin in a decentralized way. millions of funding suppose to make that better, bring mode node runners. millions of them, not thousands at this stage.
if you dont prioritize real bitcoin users in your node software, you get less node runners, because its a pain for normies. if my grandma cant run her own full node, thats not the right direction.
tell my grandma to run her own node in useful way, without spending the equivalent of minimum wage in my country on a box.
also having core alone is centralized as well, we are suppose to have multiple implementations used by real user applications.

its not a design chose, its years of prioritizing bitcoin nodes for servers mindset instead of users.
its so bad that it created secondary wrapper businesses around it like Start9 and Umbrel and etc.
if you are not running your own bitcoin node, you are not a bitcoin user.
Umbrel and Start9 requires you to buy a separate devices, a mini home server, that runs constantly at your home. a bitcoin node suppose to be as easy as download and start using.
but you have to download node, set it up.
install electrum make sure its connected to your node correctly.
install lightning core, and gui etc. make sure all connects to each-other well.
cant even explore your own chain and mempool without installing something else.
its a mess.

bitcoin core gui looks like a weekend project from early 2000s.
when you download the monero app you have a nice gui, wallet management, all looks modern very user friendly.
it feels like your bank.
monero doesnt experience too much storage issues because of the lack of volume. but yeah they are easy to download as well. i think its less than 300GB which is amazing compare to bitcoin. but mostly due to lack of volume.
cake wallet on android is amazing, good looking easy to setup.
it connects to public servers that are similar to bitcoin's electrum, it scans and downloads needed data from chain.
(but good thing, cake wallet now also supports bitcoin, and bitcoin silent payments, so thats nice for us).

also, there are some protocol level good sides to it like:
- monero uses RandomX instead of SHA256 for PoW, and it prevents creating optimized ASIC miners, because it requires real CPUs. so best ASICs for it would look like a real CPUs. so you can mine Monero on your highend laptop and make good money monthly still (which you can use for buying bitcoin lol).
since you can CPU mine, there are easy to use mining GUI apps. you download the app, enter your address and start mining within minutes using decentralized mining pools.
- also monero difficulty adjusted every block, instead of waiting for multiple blocks like bitcoin. which is good if hashrate disappears suddenly on a network, for example after a chain split.
but these are things we cant change with bitcoin atm. and not that necessary currently, we are doing other thing right in bitcoin:
- hard block size limit, instead of trying to adjust block size to include all txs, we prioritize keeping the chain small. so even with the current volume of bitcoin users, we are still under 1tb after +20 years.
- monero has tail emissions, which inflates your holdings to the miners overtime. instead we have a hard cap of 21 million in bitcoin. (and in my opinion adding more decimals points so we can halve longer is a better solution than tail emissions, if its ever required.)
- monero has constant hard forks, so if monero ever becomes big like bitcoin its easier to take control of than bitcoin.

im jealous of XMR apps and ecosystem.
they are more user friendly, and usually have amazing UX.
but bitcoin devs focused on how to inject pictures into your pc. i wanna make things, but im slow at production. i have too many distractions in my life.
tells you a lot about quality of devs we have at bitcoin core being funded for tweaking backend code for corporations. funded millions.
this tells me that bitcoin "devs" being funded might not be that great. they dont care about bitcoin. they care about social connections and funding.
it also stops others from building stuff for bitcoin. we have people building around bitcoin to earn money. not because the love of the project.

you pc running a bitcoin node is the bitcoin.
we have multiple bitcoin instances everywhere.
bitcoin is the node you run.

that's what "decentralized" is in the context of bitcoin.
running your own node is one of the MOST important thing about bitcoin. without it, bitcoin is not longer decentralized.
everything in the genesis of bitcoin designed to keep it as easy as to run.
yes we need to have a timechain, so we can prevent double spending, keep track of the utxos we might receive one day. make sure they are not spent. keep track of our lightning channels. its a necessary compromise. we limited the block size, we slowed down the block time to 10 mins. so it doesnt become a big burden.
people sacrifice their storage space, so they can prevent double spending. anything more is a burden, unnecessary burden.
so its not surprising people want less of the burden on their ledger. and its their ledger. its not one ledger. bitcoin is not a democracy. everyone has their own ledger and if you dont have the utxo on my ledger then your utxo is not valid.

bitcoin is not bitcoin without you running your own node. decentralized in bitcoin means, everyone has their own bitcoin state on their machines.
if you are not using your own node, you are not a bitcoin user. you are a trusted bitcoin paper user. trusting others.
running a node already a huge burden. (not easy as installing an app on your phone). you need to plan for storage space, bandwidth. even after having a node, its not useful if you dont install and build some other things around it.
yes you can buy a mini home server hardware for it like start9, but buying a device just for bitcoin is still a big barrier. the total discoverable node count shows that.
so making running a node even by 1% harder over and over again is a bad idea.

is not a problem with what goal?
yes taproot was kinda was retarded with some obvious holes kept open for no benefit to any bitcoin user. but it was about making the timechain more efficient and optimized letting you reveal the paths you need only. it had a good purpose. its sad that not used at all.
but we fixed it and it activates soon. so that's cool. look on at bright side.
also 300KB blocks would be cool. until then we gotta find methods to optimize chain data on the disk to make node+client+wallets more accessible to more users. as mobil apps. or web apps. if we can have websocket communication instead of raw tpc only.
imagine if you were able to talk with tor nodes using websockets. your webapp could discover nodes and resolve onion addresses directly. then your webapp could have a service worker hosting a listening nostr relay over an onion address directly in the browser.
tbh when someone says to i just think about onion address and being able to host stuff over any network without being have to change your router settings or calling your isp. and it works on any network. use mobile data, switch to a wifi, then switch to another wifi. your phone can just host your own nostr relay from anywhere.
of course there are other newer solutions coming up too. i just hope one adds native support for communication over websockets.

1TB of chain growth per year is ridiculous, we are struggling with the current chain size, you are suggesting 20x more. 300KB blocks are acceptable.
pruneable clients are a lie. they are useless. its just a talking point. bitcoin is a base layer everyone can download and keep track of to prevent double spending globally. you have to have the fully history if you wanna use bitcoin realistically.

i think liquid does "snapshots" to base layer, which let's you verify a state without knowing the full history.
which might be useful. like i only have to replay the txs after the last snapshot.
but multisig nature of it makes it a company/organization entity rather than its own protocol.
which is a different reason than i listed above. but yeah not really decentralized.

first of all that was a hard fork.
second of all big blocheads didn't believe everyone should run a node.
bip110 is a soft fork that is "changing" less things than the previous two. and do it to power node runners. they are not even changes, mostly they are just harding of what was the default network policy for more than 10 years.

it can be message and event based, allowing multiple extensions. nip07 had the same issue of extensions fighting.
you emit an event or broadcast a message using the BroadcastChannel, and extensions respond by giving you their names, logo, and api object. so you can show the user options from the extensions they have.

OP_FALSE OP_IF and its variants are structure. if it wasnt a structure we would be able to filter it. we would had need machine learning to filter it. any IDE can detect unreachable code.

my guess is someone was running a bunch of core nodes to bump the counts up, because it was hardly going down, staying flat.
so before turning them off, they also ran bunch of knots nodes as well. so they can pull them out at the same time as the core. nodes.
so its not like bunch of core nodes disappearing at the same time, but bunch of core and knots node disappearing at the same time.
but in reality, knots went up to 20%,
core went down from 20k nodes to 16k nodes

the whole idea block propagation speed being slow makes mining more centralized makes no sense. its based on the idea that there is already a centralization... so dumb.

i have seen this misinformation pack before.
thanks, but we know the every core argument filled with some little truth then full of reverse thinking.
people with brains made counter arguments to these a thousand times maybe. but it seems some people don't have enough attention time to grab and process information while watching a talk, that they miss every point made in it.
saying some half truths over and over again doesn't gonna win anyone back. keep doubling down, you are doing great. abusing bitcoin, and help others abuse bitcoin.

knots isn't just about OP_RETURN.
and delaying blocks wouldn't work, because we have mining centralization.
i used to believe that kind of solution as well. i was thinking about making a plugin for it on my own node implementation.
BUT mining centralization is the main problem atm.
it causes all kinds of issues. once we get rid of mining centralization, then you can think about those kinds of solutions.
delaying blocks would benefit pools like Foundry, because they can build on their own blocks faster than rest of the network sometimes. because of the centralization.
mining centralization breaks everything.
many things relies on mining being decentralized.
