I know, I use LN too. This is just a temp account to test a Monero client, I didn't set up any address on it.
Unfortunately, LN contracts are secured by a close that let you escape to on-chain in case the other side is being dishonest — but ofc this is only possible with low fees. As we already pointed out, global adoption will lead to really high fees and at that point LN becomes fully trust-based, fully custodial.
So, saying that bitcoin has solved it is really a long shot. Sorry my friend but nothing is solved yet & it's going to be a very hard nut to crack.

I definitely hope that bitcoin can clean up some of the corruption, but I'm not completely convinced it'll be able to do so. At that point, it's merely a beautiful theory.

Honestly, capped supply could work & it's also a great marketing... But with 7TPS & no plans to make that bigger? No way man... That's insane. Plan is clearly to make an actual digital gold, that only big actors can old onchain, and to rebuild the banks on top of it the way it always has been. I mean, the smart guys calling the shot can all do the math & figure out were it leads right?
This leaves a lot of room for Monero to grow, as the currency of the people. It's true that we'll have to pay for our security (~0.5%/year), but at least we'll have self custody. ✊
Btw, something else people miss: what we pay for holding, we won't pay it for transacting. Cause that's the other thing right, most people do both and have to pay for the security anyway. 😅

You don't need anything else if you are OK with the state & big corps to monitor all of your transactions.
Cryptocurrency have not been created to make you rich, it has been created to make techno-totalitarian societies impossible by giving the citizens ways to fight back. And Monero is taking it where Bitcoin left it.
Monero can't go to zero unless another, better peer to peer cash option appears. That's a demand Bitcoin is completely unable to meet right now, and it's going to remain that way for the forseeable future.

I don't think you understand the point. For bitcoin to survive from fees alone with 7TPS, it means each mainchain transaction will cost roughly a month of salary whatever the denomination is. We already know that cause we already know the cost of mining a block.

I think you're confusing bitcoiners & maxis. Bitcoiner just means you're holding bitcoin and have some knowledge about it, while maximalists are bitcoin-only zealots. Many bitcoiners hold monero (or the other way around). Not everyone is engaged to a token, especially not cypherpunks. ;)

It'll become negligible compared to the total supply (under ~0.5%), but it'll still be a sizeable subsidy in terms of net value. A fixed rate would cause the subsidy to grow in net value over time, which would lead to more inflation.

There's a difference between being penalized and paying a small fee for the best in class security.
Also, holders are not providing any service or liquidity. In fact, they are withdrawing liquidity from the market. What's being incentivized by other systems is either pooling liquidity, investing, or otherwise staking to participate in consensus (security); however the later is very inflationary.
Anyway, if holders refuse to pay for their security, then the whole burden will fall on transaction fees, who is what's being penalized then. This might cause the chain to be uncompetitive on the payment market, leading to lower transaction volumes and/or lower security on the long term.
Just making the conceptual case for tail emission here. It's ofc purely speculative since none of that ever played out. But it's also logical than holding for free on a network that's expensive to run is ofc a misalignement of incentives.

What you're saying is that holders should be given the service for free, and get their security paid by active users. This is essentially parasitism, very debatable.
I know tail emission is debatable too, but Monero inflation is currently 0.8% and tends toward 0. It's very far from the 5/10% we have with fiat.
I personally think tail emission is conceptually sound but should be counter-balanced by some level of fee burning, so that miners don't get it both ways.

I'd say, if you really distance yourself from a preferred outcome, then the go-to answer is that there's a market for currencies, and it will let people pick the best options.
There's is no guarantee that this money exist yet, or will exist anytime soon. The whole idea that there's such a strong first mover advantage that it's locked is arguably irrational.
In terms of currencies, I believe the winner will be a scalable network that guarantees fungibility, privacy, neutrality and self custody. I don't think it will be bitcoin because it's simply not headed there. I think monero has a shot by virtue of being agile & able to improve its mainchain in ways bitcoin can't.
In terms of store of value, I can see bitcoin making it thanks to the institutional support but that's a double-edged bet. At the end, no matter the value, we still need a private & convenient means of exchange for daily transactions — otherwise we'd all rely on gold. I don't think anyone will elect a centralized/cumbersome payment network there even if it's denominated in valuable units (thinking of all these weird L2s here)
