@SBNation Has an article today ragging on Team USA’s men’s hockey gold medal celebration, was “everything the NHL was trying to avoid.” Good, maybe the NHL will pull their collective DEI, woke head out of their —-.
What a bunch of crap. Your take on this was so one sided and politically motivated. Not one word about the honorable conduct they displayed after the game, their respectful shaking hands, the well done and respectful interviews. 🇺🇸
Not one peep about the respectful conduct in the honoring of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau by skating with #13’s jersey on their victory lap and/or bringing the two young Gaudreau children ONTO THE ICE for the team’s championship picture. 🇺🇸 You could not have had a more authentic and sincere and self sacrificial moment than that scene after an epic game like that. RIP Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. @Gaudreau5K
It was one of the hardest fought 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 battles for the gold medal ever. The first period was the fastest hockey anyone has probably ever seen (IMO). Both teams were stacked and either team could have won. Both battled to the absolute end. This is what hockey players do, but that wasn’t the story that was written.
Where have you been for 46 years? Did you even know our guys lost a well fought match back recently at the Four Nations Tournament. It’s 2026 and the tide has shifted, for we have waited forty-six long years for this victory.
News Flash 💥Canadians🇨🇦 that think hockey is “their” game are only trying to convince themselves. Nobody took “your” game. We learned a lot from you. Thank you for being so good at it.
What I witnessed of Team Canada while the silver medals were being given to them was nothing less than a repugnant attitude of “how awful to have to stoop so low as to receive this silver POS with this stupid teddy bear thing”.
Disappointment? Sure.
Angry? Ok.
But what Team Canada displayed during the medal ceremony was more a display of thankless repugnance and less an example of humility and sportsmanship. Y’all play some of the best hockey on earth BUT you are not good sportsmen and we saw what you are made of.
Everyone can tell who winners are by when they lose AND when they win. It just shows. The only graceful receipt of his silver that I watched was Canadian Mark Stone #61.
I have taught others and my own kids both hard work and sportsmanship. @TeamCanada men’s hockey could learn from young kids about how to take a loss. It’s okay to lose a frickin game you idiots. We all know you wanted the gold. Thank you for providing us with the game of a lifetime against Team USA, but know this: the hockey world no longer revolves around Canada. It was your turn to lose gracefully. We all saw how well you received it.
Oh yes, one more thing for Team Canada men’s hockey and SBNation that may cheer them up:

The cool thing about being a bit older is that we have some things in the rear view mirror; this thing is less than two decades old, but nothing compares. Life is so much more fun when the exit plan has been figured out.

I helped a friend yesterday who lives in an old church building (long story). In his kitchen they had several large holes that eventually vented to the outside (!) He has few to no skills. I helped by showing him how to block the openings and cut off the air flow. It made a big difference.

Another perspective is that closing the schools #proofofwork pulled back the curtain that only public and private schools could educate our young.
Those who were awake experienced homeschooling first hand, because parents had to do school (public school at home) for a short time (varied regionally). Those awake also saw that didn’t last for very long because public school teachers union couldn’t have that… Don’t let the people know too much 🙈

My middle daughter got very dressed up to go to her (second) annual tradition of attending the Nutcracker, with her guy.
I am proud of them, understanding they want to establish traditions in their life together. Making memories is one thing we’ve instilled in our kids: never take today for granted. Make the most of every day, for we only know a small bit of our story.

GM! I found a nice gently used kids guitar at the local thrift. This will be my kid’s second one. First one he beat on pretty good, neck is broken, missing a couple strings now.
He now knows if he were ever to get a new guitar he’d have to treat it much better than his last one. He’s all in, so he says.
Recently he’s been listening to the BeeGees and today he’s into “You Should Be Dancin’”. Thankful for this kid, who doesn’t whine about not enough time on a device. Just pivots to something else like playing “music”. Cultivating low time preference takes time. Seeds sown develop slowly, but it’s the most valuable time I’ve spent. Absolutely rich beyond measure. Also teaching humility which doesn’t come naturally to our sinful flesh.
Anyway, that and homemade sourdough toast, @npub1uzt…qtrh butter and good conversation with my boys makes this a day to remember. ☕️
Doesn’t always look like this but today this is productivity this morning. Building character, one hour, one day at a time.

Circular economy. Some may boast about this or that but I think this is another opportunity to exercise humility. Find basic food items locally and then help others get connected. Lead by example for your kids to emulate. They’re watching you 😊
This may seem a daunting prospect but really it can start simply and small. I’m still learning but I think this is the way.
I’ve been working to onboard some local friends to bitcoin, to accept Lightning payments for food products I currently pay for in fiat. My goal has been to keep money in my local community (who need income!) as they produce food my family will consume. I look in my fridge and say: “what else can I live without or replace with something sourced locally?”
Be encouraged if you’re a producer. Be encouraged if you’re trying to do the above like me.
Be encouraged, but most of all keep going, keep pushing forward.
In my previous work as a contractor I once paid a guy for some coaching. One of the best lessons for me was his comment: “80% of the people who want to do business with you don’t know about you yet.”
And here we have nostr, and we can just do stuff.

Saturday I went to the secular religion gathering in Ann Arbor to watch grown men throw a leather thing around and get all excited about numbers and forcing each other to the ground.
Once in a lifetime trip for my son and I, because we could still barely afford to go. Sat near the OSU marching band. 🎶
Stack sats or stack memories? It’s always the dilemma. Was a learning experience for he and I we will not forget, mostly excellent with some great teaching moments 👀😅

Oh yes. Currently it’s basically winter and relative humidity is low (unless you have a moisture source 😬).
So, if you test your indoor humidity and it is UNDER 50% you’re probably good to go until spring when humidity seasonally goes from low to high. That’s when you should consider a dehumidifier in your basement or crawlspace. Yes, you should get one. Yes I have recommendations (Aprilaire), 75-80 pints per day, depending.
Currently you should be good but make SURE your gutters and downspouts are working as designed and that rain runoff is channeled at least 10’ away from your foundation/basement/crawlspace.
I am thinking of going back to consulting this kind of work as I was pretty decent at it. We’ll see. Hope that helps

My experience with these is limited. They may be good but I don’t trust anything I can’t verify when it comes to IAQ (and other stuff).
IEPs indoor environmental professionals aka industrial hygienists do tape lift testing, swab tests, air cassettes via air pump and material testing if needed.
My go to has always been call a professional if it’s justified (possibly a sensitivity). Sensitivity to IAQ issues are a real thing (so don’t make that mistake 😅).
A lab report gives an industrial hygienist something to build a scope of work for. From there I would take their scope and complete the work, and if the client wanted to get a PRV (post remediation verification) we would make sure the job is cleaned exactly to spec. PRV clearance testing is at the owner’s expense so, it’s not cheap to get all the work done and clear the job.
My view has always been: let the client know the costs up front of different ways to approach, and save money on testing to go toward remediation if it’s known that will be needed. Knowing that up front helped them decide which way was best for them to proceed.
Future prevention was my favorite conversation. “ An ounce of prevention”, per se. That’s another conversation. For another day

Also, I forgot to mention that a big box store mold test won’t tell you genus or species. The results will be generic and possibly unreliable depending on the sample. To drill down into the exact genus and species you’re looking at getting someone to bring in air sampling pump with cassettes. They charge a show up fee and usually additional for each sample, so it can go to 250-300 USD fairly quick

Interesting that you should ask. I was a mitigation/mold contractor in a previous chapter. The short answer (don’t do it) begs the question what are you trying to find out? If you or a family member has a sensitivity to mold you probably know now of its presence. So there’s a lot of different ways to answer if testing is needed.
Usually people don’t need to know the genus and species of microbial growth they just need to know if it’s microbial. And answering the question is it good mold or bad mold is a fools errand imho.
That said, if your spouse is adamant about what she wants then by all means. If however you just have something small that needs to be cleaned (complete removal) then testing may not be needed for that (unless you plan to test before and again after for a “mold clearance”).
OTOH if your basement is crawling with fuzz and you know the bad news already we’d be having a different conversation.

For every person that says they hate seeing children there are the countless silent ones who wish they’d had kids, OR more likely, weren’t able to. This is very real and has been the case with couples close to us.
We have been down the foster/adoption journey (like others here I’m sure) but the real point is in the absolute awe of the Creation. It is a gift to bear children, to recreate in the way God has given us to.
Now then, the stewardship of that gift comes with a LOT of responsibility and difficulty adjustments. Let us stay humble for we are mere grasshoppers at stewarding this thing called family. Anyone who says they’ve got this hasn’t been humbled enough.
I love seeing large families, mostly. Our children say a lot about us, before any words are spoken. #proofofwork
Let’s all just keep doing our absolute best for them.

A fun story of thankfulness.
In listening to various things on YT and coming across @nprofile…egkn and @nprofile…0ep6 talking about @nprofile…yauf. Now my wife is in the rabbit hole. We have 6 kids (5 at home). Thankful for her helping us figure this out.
We used to be members of Samaritan Ministries and okay experience. Then we needed a better alternative. Another dive into the healthcare “marketplace”. Ha, no. What scam health insurance is/has been/ will be.

GM friends. We have family in town for early Thanksgiving and had a blast last night. @btcforplebs took family pictures for us and it was actually fun. I can highly recommend him.
Anyway, today is off with the crew to Amish country to get our city slicker fam out in the sticks for a short bit of stimulating the Amish circular economy (with fiat). I can’t help but think Amish families would be WELL served by Bitcoin. Secretly I bet they’re DYOR, just a hunch.

True story.
Yesterday I saw @npub1uzt…qtrh post something on nostr about being a customer and, confident I knew what he/sells #hodlbutter (of course), I jumped on board. And… I had no idea what I was about to buy, but knew it must be good.
Thankful that I asked, because I could not have consumed the product that I was about to purchase 😂. A new lesson in: verify. 😂😛
TBH back in the day I would very much enjoyed the extra-terrestrial chocolates. I even have some stories. But that was another time and place (way back there).
At any rate, I look forward to #hodlbutter and trying it with my local raw honey.

What’s hard is realizing what you had is gone. Forgiveness maybe, but trust is shaken, easily lost and hard as heck to build.
Sad to see, and for those of us who’ve lived through divorced parents (multiple times?) it hits close. A swift gut check is better than throwing a life away because one’s been deceived, tempted, sinned in anger. The list is long. My prayer is that men will step up to truly be men, not shrink away from duties only they can do.

Long post, and this is a post for men. Fathers and husbands mostly. But women, be encouraged, this is for your man. Disclosure, I don’t expect all yall to see things my way but that makes it more interesting.
I’ve seen a lot of people posting their declaration/proclamation that family is so important and declaring that on social media. It’s not just out there, it is very noticeable. This is encouraging to see, however a few things come to mind.
First, as a husband you are greatly blessed. To find a wife that you can lay down your life for is no small thing. If you forget that let me remind you of that fact. I say this because I need reminders as well.
I’m kind of pleasantly surprised that people are figuring this out. Pleasantly because family is indeed a blessing. Surprised because it’s been there all along. But it’s good that many are waking up to how important the family is. By this I mean family members in your immediate family, your spouse and your children.
And here is the reminder part. Family can be hard. It’s real hard. But that fact doesn’t change anything about the permanence of family the need for stability and the father’s need to lead his family well. He can learn this even if he doesn’t know how.
One thing he should not do is abandon his family. There are some who will say this is okay for some reason. Maybe in some sense, maybe. But for 99.999% of us men there is no excuse for leaving our wife and children. This has become way too common. I have stories I wish not to tell.
As long as it depends on us we should be reminded that nothing is of higher importance than our wives and children, and we should remember that when it gets hard, because it will.
I’m posting this because I have two sisters in the northwest who do not have any faith to sustain them. BOTH of their husbands recently left them and their children. Neither one of them have faith, neither one have Bitcoin (though I continue to work on their understanding) and both have teenage children.
I know many reading this understand, but men we can not ever think it’s okay to abandon our wife and children. This is a deception sold us in a fiat world of paper lies, temptation and greed.

I guess we see it somewhat differently. Man seeks to do “good” thinking that his works are good enough to earn him rewards. This is not a biblical view. One cannot earn his way into heaven. You’re right that some religions teach war and not peace.
It matters not what building you attend church in, what kind of cross or symbol one subscribes to. The message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is one of love. He loved us first. The question boils down to what is our response to Him? No amount or religion or human can change a heart, only He can. Man conflates up every kind of reasoning and excuse and at the end of the day… “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts.”

Ben I’m honestly surprised there isn’t a bigger response to your post. In short, this guy is a whackadoo. If the Bible is inerrant, as I believe it is, there is no wiggle room for those who profess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord another gospel. Maybe Mr. LibertasRedux doesn’t read his Bible or maybe he thinks it says something it definitely doesn’t but either way, the truth can be found, for starters, in Genesis 1:27, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him…” and there’s many more verses. Let me fast forward to two rich resources by men I look to for wisdom on this topic.
The late Voddie Baucham, Jr’s writing and teaching is as good as it gets in my view. His 2021 book Fault Lines: The Social Justice Movement and Evangelicalism’s Looming Catastrophe is an excellent work.
Another great book is C. Herbert Oliver’s 1959 work No Flesh Shall Glory: How The Bible Destroys The Foundations of Racism. Oliver was a (get this:) Black civil rights leader from Birmingham, Alabama who spent 13 years rethinking the racial ideologies of his day before writing No Flesh Shall Glory in the late 1950s. Somehow this book got buried and I am happy to share it for our nostr friends who may have similar questions. I obtained his book when I questioned our 44th President’s accusations (and others) that because I am white that meant I am a racist. I am thankful to Mr. Oliver and Mr. Baucham for their devotion to Jesus and biblically sound teaching on this subject.
I’ve met some dudes like Mr. Libertas before. Not a safe person to be around nor read his stuff (unfollow on X?). Anyway, there are many false gospels to keep vigilance for and steer your family clear. Stay focused on Jesus and the truth is my humble observation. I hope this is received in the spirit it was written.

I sometimes post a pic of my coffee, because it may be especially tasty. Today I wanted to show you what I bought from a bitcoiner in Italy.
This is a moka pot coffee maker and it’s stainless steel, made around 1950’s or 60s. It takes very fine grind. I thought I knew coffee but… I am still learning. Apparently it makes a coffee that is as good as espresso. We’ll see about that. Our dining/homeschooling table was a mess so bad pic.

Parents know, kids need guidance, and when they find themselves in trouble, look for the lesson, the teaching moment.
Tonight was one of those: accountability. When the question gets asked “where were you?”, an honest answer is expected. When that isn’t the case, what’s a parent to do? Turn the other cheek, scroll past and say “don’t do that again?”
We reap what we sow, and character is built one day at a time.
Today we begin building trust again at the base layer with one of our youngers, teaching self-discipline, honesty and speaking the truth. It never gets old and we continue to be tested by them, no matter the age. 😊

We milked our neighbor’s Jersey a couple days per week, for a while back when we lived in the holler. Deb was her name. She was as good as it gets and rarely ever kicked over the milk bucket. Would love to have that opportunity again.
