I realised to my horror that #NPCI (the banking cartel which operates #UPI) added major restrictions to UPI collect requests last month. No wonder two of the websites I wanted to make payments at refused to support it
But I was able to make a UPI collect request while registering for #ChennaiFOSS a few days back and again today to make my monthly #SIP payment. I wonder what's going on?
Will update on the wiki if I figure out the pattern 🏁

maybe the "React" misdirected people; I was actually thinking of how to go about writing *desktop* GUI apps (using #GTK for example). Or do native GUIs also do things similar to React and its ilk these days?
I have played around with FRP using Elm and it was quite a fun experience! But I see from [@dthompson](https://toot.cat/@dthompson )'s post that they're no longer following FRP?

that's fine 🙂 I'm an #XMPP person myself but I've also been following what Delta Chat has been doing. It's cool that both use #WebXDC for "apps" (right?) because that's one less level of fragmentation for the messaging ecosystem
(I saw you mention it in light of Signal's new "polls" feature, although I knew it was happening before as well. I'm just waiting for a few more XMPP clients to pick it up and add support 😅)

this is an important point and one I've been thinking about too. In the #XMPP world, we have generic servers and let the clients do whatever they want on top of it, which means the same account can be used for various purposes. I was wondering why this wasn't so in the #ActivityPub world, so it's good to know there's no particular reason for it and it can be that way if we want it to be!
It'd also reduce work for new projects as they "just" have to implement a client, not a server :fedi:

an important message indeed! Trying to go "locally built only" for #FreeSoftware code makes no sense, and trying to enforce it would be counterproductive
What governments are trying to do with such rules is assert their #DigitalSovereignty. They should realise that digital souvereignty is *already* assured just by using *any* Free Software regardless of origin. Any attempt to impose geographical restrictions will affect Free Software and therefore undermine sovereignty too

wait, did I miss something? The only restriction I know of from Codeberg is that the project has to be Free Software (which Organic Maps is) and unless I'm mistaken the political alignment of being against Big Tech etc. is in line with Organic Maps' views as well

Hi all, I'm currently running upgrades on a test version of the #Prav server, to prepare for a full upgrade. I'll be upgrading the #Debian version from #Bookworm to #Trixie, which will also upgrade #ejabberd in the process and unblock a new version of our Android #app from being released.
Since it's only on a test server for now normal operations should remain unaffected. I'll report back here when it's done and schedule a time to run the upgrade on the main server.

I can attest to the effectiveness of that. It took me several years to get more than my 3 closest friends on board, but phone number signup with #Quicksy and #Prav helped me start a 7-person family group last year. Then, a two-week family trip was all it took to get 8 more people onto #XMPP, after which my father on his own got half a dozen of his friends to sign up as wel! So I can now see things picking up steam as the network effect kicks in 🎉️

omg!!
I was excited to hear the features, then disappointed to hear it's backed by proprietary libraries from #Gboard, but then excited again to learn this demonstrates the ability to run stuff from #LineageOS and it's forks/ancestors without having to run a full-blown emulator! And not a normal app but a integrated subsystem no less 😮

More than being about technology or "just another messaging app", I'd say @npub1eyk…ndu6 is also a social movement. It's about getting people out of centralised gilded-cage #messaging platforms, just like how the #Fediverse is getting them out of enshittified #SocialMedia platforms :fedi:

yeah. I'm not sure how exactly Matrix works, but from what I understand it every server stores a copy of history for every group conversation it's involved in (whereas XMPP only stores history for conversations hosted by that server) which tends to increase resource usage. I'm not sure if there are other reasons too but Matrix does end up using up a lot of storage

Just upgraded #mobian #Trixie and all the #GTK4 apps have lost the ability to enter #DarkMode. At first I was blaming #Carburetor (the #tor toggler) but no, it's everything. #GTK3 apps like Geary are working fine though🫠️
Did this happen to anyone else? Anyway, in the meantime maybe I should just make light of it 🙃️
(PS: I hope I got my GTKs right someone please confirm)

I've seen fractional numbers in a few places before, but the other thing I noticed is that for 2G I used to get "E" whereas with 3G I'd sometimes see either "H" and "H+"
If 2.5G is GPRS, I wonder what plain 2G is, as I think GPRS was the first widespread "you can now get Internet on your cellphone!" technology? Maybe it was just plain ol' voice calls without any Internet 🤔️
Weird that I'm only getting 2.5G here and not 2.75G. It's outrageous! 🤪️

Phosh doesn't really have a wallpaper as such, though, so maybe this still counts? And for people like me who went and set a background anyway, I remember this Python script that picks predominant colours from an image, so it should just be a matter of time...😉️

well my #PocoF1 lasts about 8 hours per charge, so you shouod probably carry a power bank like I did. There are also some quirk peculiar to my phone like not being able to receive calls on suspend and no camera drivers, but if you get an actual designed-for-Linux phone like the #PinePhone or #Librem those are not issues (besides maybe the battery life)

Last charge while I bus-hop the last leg home. I could have waited around a bit and got a direct bus, but that'd take a while this early in the morning as services haven't picked up yet and I missed the *very* early series of buses that end around 5:45am 🚌️🚌️🚌️

By the way, the music player I'm using now is #Lollypop, which lets you also stream music and get album metadata from places like Jamendo and #YouTube 🍭

Reached the station and got my bus with minutes to spare, but that's no fault of Mobian's: blame the railways 😉️
There seems to be an issue with the mic; that happens sometimes. A restart seems to have fixed it: at least, it picks up static and finger-snapping; I haven't tested on an actual call yet 📞️

Update: I am, in fact, awake, although the train's running a bit late. The GNOME Clocks alarm gave a silent notification that I noticed 7 minutes later. The sleep command didn't work, so maybe I miscalculated something 🤐️ fortunately but not coincidentally I was awake anyway

Okay so it's a bug. Killing the clock and reopening it shows the alarm, but you got to kill after the alarm time which is a bit useless.
Workaround: sleep && amberol # tried aplay but it only plays static
Ooh maybe I can do a sleep && kill Clocks instead? Experiment for future!
*sets phone to full volune and goes to sleep*
