This is why I follow @nprofile…nvs0. Moxon can have exquisite clarity of thought, and puncture through toxic noise and ubiquitous mainstream sloganeering propaganda. "The Reframe" isn't simply a cute name, it's an active example of Critical Thinking. It's what we need in these times.
This is the best, clearest, most thoughtful articles on the toxic frame of "male loneliness - why aren't women fixing it" and "not all men are bad - women better stop choosing the bear" by a man. These are deliberate misogynistic frames that shift responsibility from men (of all ages) to fix their lives to women to fix men's lives, replicating a toxic relationship pattern of victim/persecutor/rescuer that solves nothing and harms and erases women, and from a lived man's (Moxon) experience hollows out and harms men.
I wish men would read this, shout "Eureka!" and make their own lives whole. They can, if they choose.

They could have ditched the pivot, and instead gained more flexibility with an easier three syllable adjective+noun

I once said "When I was a little girl growing up in Hawai'i, I used to dream about the Mainland, it was so different from everything I knew, everything new and surprising, and this moment, here, with you, this is that fulfillment of my childhood's dreams. Thank you." She laughed and I got hired.
Later, I worked in senior management in HR, and watched hiring managers ask stupid questions they never actually listened to the answers to, and applicants waste time faking answers they thought were required. That's NOT the function of interviews. The interview should really be where less resume qualified but interesting applicants are given a shot, perfect resume applicants are tested (a surprising to me number are BS), and good candidates get to explain in person what their written narrative doesn't do justice. And for each applicant to suss work culture and decide if we meet their needs for whatever reason and for as long as they need, or if the written ad was just a lie.

If you say "Yeah, it may say that, but that's not what I meant" you have a performance skill deficit. By encouraging reliance on an intellectual crutch, we slowly breed out a societally critical skill that is necessary in a flourishing democracy.

I felt duly miserable, and never forgot the imagery. My mom, as a Shinto/Buddhist/Christian infused my childhood with the loving notion of everything in the natural world possessing a hidden spirit or kami deserving of notice and respect, so I thanked the stepping stones and trees and the winds. Seventy or so years later, I still talk to my own stone steps every day. She never knew a luna moth, but she would have been overjoyed.

I've been writing about this for years: 63% of ALL nursing home/long-term/skilled nursing facility (SNF) patients are entirely funded by Medicaid. This means SNFs WILL CLOSE, even for the 37% full pay, because 37% full pay is not enough to cover operating expenses and generate profit for a nursing home.
Be prepared to take care of grandma in your own home, families. To provide 24/7 care. To clean ports, to give injections, to lift from bed, to bathe and change, to toilet, to feed, to change diapers and soiled sheets and clothing, to puree or liquify food, and hand feed, to handle the bouts of screaming or violent outbreaks, or wandering, or crying, or despair, or insomnia, or begging for food after just eating, or the refusal to eat or take meds, the crazy accusations, the calls to police or 911, the choking, the falls, the pain, the not remembering who you are, the complaining... the desperation that no one else will help you.
This is what the draconian Trump cuts to Medicaid mean.
And if grandma's not in a SNF, where will she go to rehab before release to home when she cannot yet manage the Activities of Daily living: Eating, Bathing, Dressing, Toileting, Walking, Getting in and out of bed? Your home, your children's home... be prepared to quit your job to take care of grandma/grandpa, your elderly uncle or aunt...
Nursing homes do what families don't want to do, on the taxpayers' dollar. DOGE considers this waste, fraud, and abuse. Because they prioritize tax cuts to billionaires over regular American families.

We had a small protest today in our small town of 1100 people (530 households). It rained, and it was Saturday dump day, when our town transfer station is open for trash, recycling, and composting. We never have protests in our town. But we did, today.
A few Town officials were there in their capacities as citizens and neighbors. We had fun, waved, held signs and umbrellas and visited.
I expect the next one will be larger.

Trump is addicted to the endorphin rush of dominance for dominance sake. So, there is no goal to negotiate or any outcome to come to, it's all a process high. So there's never any complete satisfaction on his part. He uses three tools: vanity, greed, and fear. To keep the high going. Endlessly, until he dies.
It's a psychology that's bad for relationships of all kinds. There's never "good enough".
Everyone has spent time trying to figure out what he wants, as if the process has some tangible goal that satisfies him like winning something that matters. The process, the playing of the game itself, is what he lives for. It's the rush in the act of dominance he wants, but it's an escalating rush that can never ultimately satisfy.
It's why he makes no sense. Why he lies pathetically about winning even stupid meaningless stuff.
China has him figured out, and he's bad for business. He's an untrustworthy global partner. China's building a box, getting ready to now be the world's new boyfriend.

Most Chancellors, and often most Presidents, are academics who chose a dual path as administrators. Why do you not know this, when you suggest the answer is simply more faculty control when you guys are part of what you identify as the problem.
For disclosure, I served on a Presidential Search Cmte, along with FACULTY representatives, alumni, trustees, and students, and faculty are NOT powerless. Hold your own members accountable.

Faculty have power they refuse to use to support colleagues who are targeted and fired. Because they can't reach consensus to use the most important power they have to gut the power of administrators and trustees -- they can collectively refuse to teach, and dare the institution to terminate them.
No one applies to a university because of the VP for Administration, no alumni donate because of the Facilities Director or HR VP. Learning is the product and faculty are the means of production.
Faculty could be a profile in courage, but the most they can muster is a meaningless vote of "no confidence" in a President. And in refusing to act, they betray the trust of students and demonstrate why they are a faithless alternative.

It's why the best professional gamers do not rely on Starlink to compete internationally. Starlink's plus is scope of geographical coverage not it's speed or consistency.
But Trump wants to replace our current real-time air traffic control system with an unstable $tarlink satellite system. Verizon had the new $2.4B contract award to increase existing fiber bandwidth and improve current coverage provided by a different supplier (not Verizon or $tarlink.) But now Musk wants that $2.4B for himself. Sure, it's not like loss of signal or lag matters while planes full of people are in the air.
