Whole sections of town empty for months on end. Crappy beach motels charging exorbitant rates with tons of empty rooms. Sometimes I wonder if we’re chumps for not having any kind of home surveillance system. I’m not ready for that responsibility, and I definitely do not trust vendors with video footage of my neighbors and community members. Very few folks in our neighborhood do not have something like ring or nest. People need to do what they gotta do to feel safe. It doesn’t make me feel safe, though. One house in the neighborhood had their ring camera set up so if you step on their driveway a recording that says “Hi. You are being recorded.” plays. That makes me sad, but maybe that is judgy.

Sometimes my brain gets stuck on Mandarin, which is weird. Wonder if anyone else in bilingual or multilingual households experiences this? Probably so. For me, it’s like certain questions make more sense to answer in mandarin even though having a convo in English. Fine if the other speaker also speaks mandarin, but otherwise not so much.

Why I post cooking questions on the Fediverse rather than searching the web: I encounter a lot of cultural content that really makes me feel shitty when I search for American/English language recipes. Trad wife BS, fat shaming, BS health lies, etc. I just wannna know about folks’ experiences cooking something. So, if I can’t find info in one of my go-to sources, I ask here.

I think so, too. Last year, I was stopped at a red light with two cars in front of me and the car immediately in front of me just starts plowing into their horn. This stop is a place where a lot of folks going in the lane I was in turn right on red, but there is no turn lane. the immediately in front car has their turn signal on, but the car first at the red light does not. I cannot know what was in the driver’s mind, but I think that fucker was honking because the first car wasn’t turning.

Can anyone confirm what kind of rose this is? I am getting dog-rose when I look it up. Some of them are yellow. They look like the roses that grew on the sand dunes at he beach as a kid, but the rose hips are smaller and the leaves not as vibrant.

Still unsure if I just have polyps or colon cancer, though I first learned of this possibility at the beginning of May. Tried to find out in China, but I don't want to get into it. Anyway, I will find out on Monday, or take the first step to finding out. It's probably nothing, but all the stuff I read tells me that's about 50/50 given my family medical history. Anyway, I am starting a low fiber diet today and I really was not aware of much nuts and raw veggie I eat. It's a lot.
