My wife got on the hook by a scammer today! She’s not a technophobe by any means, so it’s quite unsettling. Here’s what happened…
She received email asking if she would like to be interviewed on a podcast of a well known “influencer”, about her business and her expertise.
Over a series of emails a time gets booked for a Zoom pre-call to go over the schedule for the interview the next day.
Zoom link gets sent, which my wife clicks on, the link does open Zoom application on computer and my wife waits, the application says “host has been notified and will join soon”. She does not enter any login credentials, the application looks to be actual Zoom app.
But after 30 min of waiting, host never joined.
Then she tells me what happened and I investigate, finding out this has happened to others.
I read through the correspondence between her and scammer, first email says they will remunerate her for her time.
For scammer to not get on the call, I’m wondering why they didn’t take the next step? And was the next step to get her on the call and try to somehow get her to divulge her bank details so they can “pay”her? I have previously listened to the @npub1kke…7348 social engineering calls, it gives me chills how persuasive they are…
Or have they somehow been able to access the computer in the 30 min she was waiting in the lobby of the call with the application open? I’m 80% sure the application is the real Zoom.
If they did get access to the computer, what could they have gotten, and what should I do from here?
This is a fantastic example where the Nostr Web of Trust would have stopped this in its tracks, as my wife could have checked if the podcast “manager” was indeed connected to the high profile influencer via WOT, which couldn’t be faked.
If we are possibly still vulnerable please advise!

I put them into boiling water and no issue. Egg quality makes a huge difference also.

Is it possible to delete your own note yet on Nostr?
If it’s your own created note, I believe you should be able to edit/delete.

Here’s something that stresses me on Damus… when I tap on a note reply, to see what the replies are to that reply, to then go back, it jumps to home feed instead of going back one step.
So I find myself hesitant to tap, because I hate having to try and find the original note again when I’ve been sent to updated home feed that has since had new notes. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the explanation, I love this idea… reminds me of how group chats are so clunky IMO, multiple 1:1 conversations going on between individuals, but everyone is getting notified and it’s all disjointed in a single feed. Too much noise and inefficient, there has to be a better way.

We have a $1 trial product. A while back I had 1000+ $1 transactions come through in one day, highly unusual. It was someone testing a huge batch of CC details to find which cards worked.
I asked the payment gateway provider if they were going to block those active cards, and their reply blew my mind…
“No, each corresponding bank needs to do that individually.”
Meanwhile someone now has 1000 CC details they know works, off they go to spend up a storm for a week or more until the CC owner reports it as fraud, which the bank automatically refunds them, the fraudster keeps their stealings, and the bank reverses the charge to the business where the goods were purchased.
Insane.

Right now, do most clients choose to run their own relay? As a user, if I have some obscure hobby (shrimp farming) that I don’t want to get my notes about pushed to generic relays that my friends use to follow me, makes sense for me to only push to the shrimp farming client relay.
My school friends don’t want to hear about my shrimp farming prowess 😆. Anyone who does can add that relay to their client.
So I think most clients may run their own relay because of this.
Thoughts?

There’s also a difference between generic ads and specific ads that are actually relevant and useful for users.
Historically the only way to serve relevant ads has been to track and observe behaviours and interests at the expense of privacy.
Nostr may introduce clients and relays specific to interests and niches that relevant ads get served on, which would be a win for advertiser, client, relay and user… perhaps 🤔 #[1]
