Burner phone. They're basically saying non-mobile use is unsupported. Any workaround puts the risk on you.

On too many occasions, I've encountered adults who cannot imagine, or are shocked at the idea of refillable and reusable pens.

It's absolutely depressing how many people today simply refuse to open a website/browser.

It's terrible. But what's worse, is that in many societies, this has become a de'facto necessity.
Yes... people can't even think to call a phone number.

I think they're one of those countries where millions of people actually believe that Facebook IS the Internet; thanks to Zuckerberg's "sponsorship" (ie control) of ISPs and internet access.

In #Malaysia:
- there is only 1 size of pipe, and associated hardware/accessories
- nobody's heard of a "socket wrench"
- there are dozens of vegetables, but only 1 kind of potato, which includes yams and tapioca
- there is only 1 OS and 1 software application for every task
- USB = Samsung cable, and storage space is ROM.

Outsourced responsibility. From Microsoft to CrowdStrike etc, people and businesses pay pay pay so that if/when anything goes wrong, they can LEGALLY say "it's not my fault".
People will happily watch the world burn as long as they can tell themselves it's not their fault.

Many people say there is no parking and traffic problem in Malaysia.
Because they are the problem.

We had every reason to stop using Whatsapp a long time ago. Most people just don't care.

"We are ruled and oppressed by eternal powers that be" is the end of the conversation.
"We empower figureheads to represent our ignorance and hatred, without feeling responsible ourselves" is the beginning of the conversation.

Calling them whores would be an insult to prostitutes, who at least have the #integrity of not pretending to be advocates of celibacy.

@npub14ct…km94 Every now and then, I get the bright idea to run a technology resource for #NGO s.
Then I remember that this has been done many times before and gone nowhere, even with significant institutional funding.
Coz people just. don't. care.
I'm guessing the cost to educate people about technology safety, sustainability, and accountability, is 10x more than the cost of technology itself.

It actually takes effort to limit such a universal standard as email to specific applications.

Well, 95% of hotels there are more like love motels. The one time I stayed at a "proper" hotel in Taipei, it was US$650/night. The cheaper hotels were much better value for money; with satin sheets, neon lighting, and free porn on the TV 🤣

Yup. It was in the major Straits ports of Penang, Malacca, and Singapore.
Then came the One China/Puotonghua campaign, and their fierce institutional policies in Malaysia and Singapore from the 90s to the early 2000s. I remember being ridiculed and discriminated against during that time, for speaking my mother's language. Students were whipped in schools.
The flames of "cultural revolution" have thankfully calmed down since, but the damage is already done it seems.

Oh, it's my dialect that's too unique, haha.
I just found out in Wikipedia that it's now an endangered language, and no longer the lingua franca of its namesake - #PenangHokkien. 😔

When I discovered my Hokkien dialect was not compatible in Taipei, I actually managed to get quite far speaking Japanese instead!

Seems to be a growing trend across the region, if not the world. (Replace Whatsapp with whatever regional app).
Remember, not too long ago, messenger apps were desperately trying to bridge with Apple's "exclusive" messaging app, because iphone users refuse to use anything else.
