- there is only 1 size of pipe, and associated hardware/accessories
- nobody's heard of a "socket wrench"
- there are dozens of vegetables, but only 1 kind of potato, which includes yams and tapioca
- there is only 1 OS and 1 software application for every task

Outsourced responsibility. From Microsoft to CrowdStrike etc, people and businesses pay pay pay so that if/when anything goes wrong, they can LEGALLY say "it's not my fault".
People will happily watch the world burn as long as they can tell themselves it's not their fault.

Then I remember that this has been done many times before and gone nowhere, even with significant institutional funding.
Coz people just. don't. care.
I'm guessing the cost to educate people about technology safety, sustainability, and accountability, is 10x more than the cost of technology itself.

Well, 95% of hotels there are more like love motels. The one time I stayed at a "proper" hotel in Taipei, it was US$650/night. The cheaper hotels were much better value for money; with satin sheets, neon lighting, and free porn on the TV 🤣

Yup. It was in the major Straits ports of Penang, Malacca, and Singapore.
Then came the One China/Puotonghua campaign, and their fierce institutional policies in Malaysia and Singapore from the 90s to the early 2000s. I remember being ridiculed and discriminated against during that time, for speaking my mother's language. Students were whipped in schools.
The flames of "cultural revolution" have thankfully calmed down since, but the damage is already done it seems.

Oh, it's my dialect that's too unique, haha.
I just found out in Wikipedia that it's now an endangered language, and no longer the lingua franca of its namesake - #PenangHokkien. 😔

Seems to be a growing trend across the region, if not the world. (Replace Whatsapp with whatever regional app).
Remember, not too long ago, messenger apps were desperately trying to bridge with Apple's "exclusive" messaging app, because iphone users refuse to use anything else.
