The process looks like this. Open the store app. Scan the QR code at the entrance or attached to the special carts with phone holders. Scan each item you buy. When you're done, scan a few barcodes in the app and pay.
I did accidentally not pay for a small item once because the app gave me an error dialog and I dismissed the dialog without reading it. When I realized what I'd done, I went back to the store, explained what happened, and paid the 200 yen.

I had already scanned a big tray of chicken thighs and was trying to get it in my bag, but there was stuff in the way, so I pulled that stuff out and was putting the chicken in the bag when they walked up from behind me on the left side. Met the ladies I used to work with for lunch today. Freaked them out by telling them Mari's encephalitis was caused by the vaccine (two of the ladies have daughters). I tried to reassure them how rare this was. Of all the encephalitis girls we've met, this has happened only to Mari. And HPV is being eliminated in those populations that take the vaccine!

I'm upgrading Mari's condition from so so to okay.
She's stopped using the wheelchair inside and seems to be walking okay. Personality is generally good, but I can't get a real read on that or her memory because she doesn't want to talk to me much. You could say she's acting more like a teenager than before.
The only concerning thing has been involuntary movements last week when her teacher was here. I guess she felt nervous and her leg did something. But it did not escalate.
