This Wed/Thurs is #NhamFest26!
24 hours of music and visuals from the vast creative wonderland of the Fediverse!
On Thursday the 27th @ 22:00 UTC, 6pm Toronto time, it’s me, bgm (he/him) and my awesome son George (they/them) singing Canadian originals that skew sort of dirty-folk? a bit messy pop? Lotsa harmonies and guitars. And a few covers. I’m suspending my tariffs on U.S. folks for just this hour so they can enjoy my music also. But then they’re right back. Sorry.

Feel so sneaky slipping onto the @npub15fs…l243 livestream to test my connection. So nefarious. Like it should be illegal. Gonna take over the airwaves and spread my propaganda.

A few days ago the (awful) film Jaws 2 was on TV and we watched it, laughing. At one point, while not-so-subtly telegraphing the dramatic finale, the “shark expert” says that sharks are attracted to “any rhythmic, low-frequency vibration.”

Please enjoy my new animated film: weird and just shy of 7 minutes, this took me weeks to shoot, draw, animate, edit and sing. It has my filthy fingerprints all over it; no art-stealing robots were involved. There’s some swearing.
Enjoy watching with a friend or perhaps privately; or maybe hiding, ashamed.

Milk frothers of Mastodon: how do you get 2 decent looking lattes out of one milk jug? When I foam enough milk for 2 coffees, the first pour looks okay but the second always looks like ass. I guess the foam is thicker at the bottom of the jug so even if I’m swirling like crazy it’s sort of a mess by the 2nd pour.
I take the uglier one every morning 🤷

Wow. Depressing article to read, and right after I blocked some dude that makes ai music who followed me.
Also I’m not understanding your phrase “arts income,” those words don’t seem to go together for me 😜

I’ve had this synth for about 20 years now and I still don’t fully get how everything works. I need someone to come over and explain LFOs and Cutoff and Resonance to me like I’m a baby or more accurately a middle-aged man and I will give you the fermented beverage of your choice.
And like, I totally get the concept of ATTACK DECAY SUSTAIN RELEASE but it never behaves like I want/expect.

So funny you posted this. Just last night I was asking my wife, “what would be the most embarrassing thing we could throw out on garbage day that all the neighbours would see.” I decided that a large portrait of myself would be the worst. Our garbage isn’t that embarrassing but i admit I peel the name and info labels off my prescription meds bottles before throwing them out, just because paranoia.

Here’s a very rough recent animation; it was going to be this dude walking with a friend and chatting about things like how he can’t eat carbs and getting a new jacket. I did a test of a walking cycle and how the lip sync would work but I never got any farther than that. I’d even shot some walking backgrounds at College and Spadina here in Toronto.

👍 good to know. Not an emergency but I will hang onto them then for future rescue. It’s probably just backups of really bad and embarrassing music ideas that should never see the light of day.

So we have 2 adult kids plus one girlfriend plus one dog moving back in with us in THESE CHALLENGING TIMES and we are purging our basement of about 30 years of stuff. One thing I find the most challenging, as the keeper and archivist of all digital memories (a role I did not ask for) is how to deal with so many old computers and disks and cds and dvd-rs and some outdated tech that are loaded with stuff. I can’t just delete shit or throw it out, it’s basically my 3 kids entire childhoods.

Over the past year I did a few voice over gigs thru Backstage for not a ton of money. On a whim last month I sent my reel to about 5 agents; 1 said no, one said “we’ll listen” but I never heard back and one really prominent one signed me a few weeks ago. Did a good gig last week and then today I did a big car commercial for which I made as much in two hours as I’d made in several days of video work or 3 weeks of the shitty background performer work I was doing last year.

A tale about money.
I had some recent experiences of not getting paid for stuff, including a video shoot I did for an artist; 2 days of shooting, couple days of editing at a discounted rate and then they said they would give me half for “my trouble.” Another gig hasn’t paid me yet, plus some other stuff I did for free left me feeling really down and frankly a bit worthless.

If you can, please join me on Saturday for a rare solo live stream in which I hopefully perform some songs and quite possibly, as ever, a live panic attack.
Saturday July 26
2100 UTC, 1700 Toronto time.
It’s all part of #RFFF25 and will be at this link:

Radio Free Fedi is gettin’ the band back together! I’m gonna do another stream as part of this month-long RFF love fest with many other awesome folks.
So mark your calendar for *some time in July* (date tbd) when I will again
a) sing some songs
b) possibly have a live panic attack

What’s the easiest way to update to the new version of #Faircamp? Do I have to re-upload and encode everything or can I just update the the .eno files and upload those? Can’t seem to find an “update” tutorial and I’m not particularly smart so the official manual makes me sad and scared.
