I would rather not establish precedent that node operators are responsible for the data on the block chain. That opens up a trivial attack vector by literally anybody. Making the argument that it’s a public space and therefore individual people aren’t responsible is much safer/robust over the long term

Because op_return already exists, it seems hard to argue that it is _only_ a monetary network. And in terms of “right to blockpace” - do you disagree that a defining characteristic of bitcoin is permission-less use? I don’t think censorship resistance / permissionless money can be paired with “right to blockspace”

Being able to choose to not mine them seems reasonable, but I think not relaying them hurts overall network decentralization. All nodes benefit from seeing potential transactions before they come in a block so you can verify validity pre-block arriving. So if you withhold propagation it harms other nodes when a block does arrive

Agreed about the no silver bullet. That’s why I think making a new primitive available sooner is important though. User available taproot tools are just starting to become more widely available. Getting a new building block in place now gives time for actual testing on what scaling solutions it enables. CTV has been around the longest, is the best studied/tested, and has the lowest chances of unintended side effects

Neither are they - they act as a front end for any fedimint. The fedimints that show up are ones recommended by your WoT. They could modify their recommendation to show “one of these people proved they run this mint” though

Ah okay. So you’re saying hardware wallet would use the nonce unless it thought the nonce was leaking, in which case it wouldn’t sign. The change is just that software _could_ specify the nonce to use as an additional security measure

It seems like the trade off is to either trust your wallet software to not generate leaking nonce or to trust your hardware wallet to not leak via nonce. IMO trusting the hardware wallet is the better option as that is the device that you are trusting to not be compromised already

I think part of the problem is the word “mining”. It’s really just transaction professing which happens to have a subsidy right now. We should start calling miners “block builders” or something which reflects their function better but that ship has probably sailed

Users can choose their own client and interact throughout the conference via Nostr. It wouldn’t require any platform changes, although a client with separate channels for different presentations, announcements, etc would be a nice UI
