I started reading Joel Salatin everything I want to do is illegal because I have similar ambitions.
I'm only a few chapters in and he explains the history of this.
What's ashame is our laws are designed for corporations and always squash the entrepreneur start ups.

yeah wallet format, segwit, batching, etc. all mainchain throughput increases done with a soft fork.
This isn't even talking about the different layers which unlock a whole lot more.
Trying to keep up with hardware through hard forks was never going to work.
There's a reason why Bitcoin mogs everyone else.
Keeping data for frivolous transactions doesn't scale.
Eth was smug as hell until they ran into a wall.

Mainchains do not scale even with 12tb drives.
If zaps had to be written on everyone's node that would fill up quick.
Monero works as a niche, but with a large amount of success it'll crumble.
The ASIC resistance will be regularly cracked when there's market incentive to do so.
The blockchain size will be stupid and unpredictable if it became popular.
I used to be on the ASIC resistance side back in 2017 but learned how difficult it is to keep fair.
I'd rather the rules be set and the market competes.
I run Bitcoin the og way, its possible with a few hundred dollars and hours.

I have some old xmr wallets it's an interesting protocol but I don't think it can scale the way Bitcoin captured the energy grid because xmr is sustained by FPGAs and hidden ASICs/botnets.
To properly go Moore's law asic would be a decade of disruption.
To fork Bitcoin would be more than anyone wants to deal with.
idk what do you think?

The ux for fedimints is dope, one click entering/exiting a private bank.
Most people won't bother to secure their own keys anyways.
Not only do you need 100 hours studying it you need like $100 in hardware and seed plates, make that $300+ for a decent lightning node.
Fairytale protocol changes aren't going to appear either so we're stuck with chaumian mints might as well make the most of it.

I was restoring a wallet like 5 years into Bitcoin I found out what a derivation path is and almost shat myself.
Luckily electrum recognized it, but depending on where your wallet seed was generated you might need to know the derivation path to recover it.
So remember to write that down with the seed phrase.

Looks like CLN has some good database backup ideas, but it's not easy to understand.
When I can get real time back ups figured out I'd feel a lot more comfortable using lightning network and LSPs.
I just read static channel backups rely on your channel counterparty to not play any games and that's where watchtowers could step in, but a complete database backup seems like the only true option to have safety and redundancy.

asic resistance leads to even worse cheating with FPGAs, hidden ASICs, and eventually algorithm changes which means cantillon effect.
Bitcoin really doesn't want to have to change algorithm it's a nuclear option that'll result is many contentious forks.

is the LSP problem similar to the centralized miner problem in that the bigger operators are more likely to get pinched, and then Bitcoin evolves giving better opportunities to smaller operators.
it's not that hard to spin up a node, open some channels, and fedimints on the way it's a heck of an open source tool kit.

I want to learn how to run a business on LN and utilize the new features but I'm still not comfortable in how it works.
I'd invest in enterprise grade machine if I have back ups and/or watchtowers.
The redundancy of on chain funds makes total sense, but lightning is still confusing. I even made $40 from someone using an old channel state no way I'd risk a lot of my own funds and especially other people's funds on it.
Am I missing something or are all the implementations still sketchy?

Is this is due to the way backups are saved on each implementation?
LND is static channel backups which can only tell your counterparty to close.
While CLN has a way to save the latest state right?
What's the best way to have redundancy and prevent channels closing? CLN and reference a watchtower so you don't get accused of cheating with an old state?

would the best setup be on CLN and run a watchtower on another node to ensure I have the latest channel state in the event of a failure?
because having LND backups static channels or whatever really isn't great due to a forced channel close is the best resolution in the event of failure.

I want to learn more about fedimints and DLCs on nostr, I'm kind of a basic user where raspi served me well but I like start9 has backups and redundancy for when I want to take it to the next level I can't risk a significant amount.
My umbrel loses connection once every 3-4 weeks with an UPS and the forced resets have me concerned.
