So I downloaded this from Anna's Archive out of plank curiosity and also to hate read August Derleth.
Spoilers for an 84-year old magazine - the small ladies on the cover are dryads and hamadryads who have been made into furniture, survived, and reassembled by the titular plank loving man. At least one of the dryads is the man's wife.
Both the cover and story leave something to be desired. The ladies should be scarred and misfigured as a consequence of being sawed into planks, which would make a pretty metal cover. The story was interesting on the level of, say, Pickman's Model, but not as well written.
August Derleth wrote a maudlin, mediocre pseudo christian defense of the status quo. It was funny to see an ad in the magazine for "the last of the Lovecrafts," The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, discovered by the very same Derleth.
