Indee that is what they show. But why such an odd cryptic non-obviously related error? I am a bit miffed that this problem has come up. I am not doing anything odd with #codeberg and use it as my main repo and do PRs etc daily... it has broken my project flow without warning as if I were a bot or something. I would rather pay for a service that works for me, than have to beg for attention for my show-stopping problem.

#codeberg no longer works for me. After two pull requests on their website I get
Network error SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected non-whitespace character after JSON data at line 3 column 1 of the JSON data
and then only after waiting e.g. overnight can I no more PRs .
I use codeberg in preference to gitgub on principle, but now I cannot use codeberg effectively any more.
Anyone know what this problem is?

nixos global update lays waste to loads of my tooling....but at least it happens when cause it to 😂 In this case firefox keeps wanting to install background processes requiring admin authorisation. That is what bothers me : someone else deciding when I have to fix stuff. I want to be to blame and chose when to crash things.

And most amazingly: #macos cannot manage #firefox NOR #MSword which fail to start after a while. Only with #claudecode could I make my #MacBookProM1 actual let me do word processing! Hilarious state of affairs because IF I HAVE TO use and LLM to make the simplest thing work in #macos then I am finally justified in using the LLM to set up a #linux machine just the way I want it and learn something in the process . Just as in #ubuntu, #firefox in #macos piles up pending updates & eventually just fails to start. This never happens under #nixos
Funnily: I first tried #nixos precisely to see if I could avoid having to kill firefox PIDs in #ubuntu to make my machine behave. 😆. Lovely to see even #macos suffers from 'not being as good as nixos' for controlling the morasse of incessant update processes flooding the OS every day & calming the pop-up storm. Super. I use one fixed linux computer for reticulum over internet to have one ID. The ID is however encoded in my flake so I could use the same one on a different machine if the first one is off. It does lead to chaos if every reticulum messaging app creates its own ID and one is experimenting with different apps. I too have settled on meshchatx . What is relay chat?

Thanks. Yes, it should ALL be upstream derivations but the hate campaign against AI generated PRs is so bad I do not do it & make it all local. The flake uses 'parts' so you can pull in just the part/s you want: very handy so you do not need the whole flake & can test before maybe importing/harvesting the nix code The readme is not up to date, sorry. As you can see from the number of commits, even with Claude Code doing the heavy lifting, it is a very long term project to make my #flake.

Just wanted to mention that these passages in isolation are confusing to someone starting new. The meaning and flavours of seeding and seed nodes is probably not ultra clear in the write-up. I have associated the term seeding with seed node, which the local device hosting the repo is not?

I also have experienced, even on TCP backbone set as gateway, the failure of replies to my messages to get through. Not sure if this is the problem you are referring to. So I message someone using my backbone gateway and they reply but it does not get delivered to me. (I have set up reticulum.me and reticulorum.net as backbone gateways BTW)

Using a repo like codeberg and #git for managing a #flake for #nixos that applies for all multiple machines of a fleet each, having their own git branch, using the .#<machine_of_fleet> is really hard. Does anyone do this too? Why is it so hard? For example I have not stopped using #checkout as a command because it makes no sense to me and leads to confusion, and use switch and restore. Also I have made a mental note not to refer to "main" in any operation other than the one master machine. Tips?

VPNs do not work because lots of sites and even my own home-served web resources are not accessible when on them e.g. proton, expressVPN . What is the definitive solution to this problem? Is there an idiot's guide to using radicle as a web front end to inspect PR and perform merges on the web front end? Or is this not possible? I am happily using codeberg to manage my PR (inspect diffs) and merge branches into main etc. but do not see anything in my radicle toolbox that behaves as such a tool, so I mirror to radicle from codeberg until I can perform the operations I need it for natively in radicle. I know this means I am clueless but am trying hard to understand.

I just wanted to say that github is the reference location for code (which is a shame but still fact), and that I am using #radicle as a robust meshed git repo system & #codeberg so no sheep. As mirror repo codeberg/github are ok locations just to get it out & get bootstrapped. To only get the #RNS code over #rngit reticulum itself seem not beginner-friendly.

The DE healthcare system breaks even every year. The system uses computers & billing. The bills are paid behind the scenes by the institution that has agreed or is obliged by law to pay for it. The institutions get their money from contributions. The contributions come from employers & employees. It works. When a health system breaks even it acts as a long-term functioning insurance system. That is not politics. It is boring, rational governance. Not suited to the UK? Might agree.

Ich habe mehrere jetKVM gekauft weil ich sowieso von Fern die Rechner verwenden will, und dadurch verwende ich auch mehrere Rechner nicht nur mit der selben Tastatur und Maus sondern alle auf einem Bildshirm (imac retina 24 Zoll unter nixos... herlich). Wouldn't it be revolutionary if on your smartphone when someone calls and you are already in a call, they would get a response like "sorry, engaged" or similar. I am trying out ZFS on my "homelab" server but was most surprised that it seems one has to do all the ZFS setup external to the flake which only lives within the manually made ZFS pool environment. That seems to mean I need a sort of orchestration script like tool to match flake /persist data settings to the ZFS setup hoo-ha. Works fine but is not declarative at all really. Any ideas there ?

Can we set up a mesh network to make available to all the data concerning FOSS software popularity akin to the process in reticulum where announces propagate and the data paths are completely anonymous? With the fragmentation of the FOSS due to everyone running their own stuff without repo pull requests etc. being made, it would help if the raw data on the use of various software modules were made available mesh-wise to be able to spot high use of popular code even if it is not in a repo.

Yes. Fully understand. I am experimenting with work-arounds with services.desktopManager.gnome.flashback.enableMetacity = true
under nixos... will see where that takes me. I would have expected some sort of retro limited gnome option to run by default if the user specified x11 (for a good reason related to hardware).

Wow. That is an automation of what I am starting to do manually. Very very nice. I am learning the git ropes so am happily doing pushes and pulls and flake checks manually. I keep each machine on its own branch and merge to main when judged safe and pull back main etc. etc. Very kind to share. This is amazing tech.

I am trying to update my #nixos flake and discover that #x11 is not supported by the latest #gnome but I also know that some of my hardware (#HPelitedesk800 , VM machines running xrdp and x11spice) fails to show correct windows under #wayland so this is very un-linuxy and I feel like a sort of macos hardware obsolescence vibe ... Or is gnome now just "bloatware" and #Xfce the new way forward here for the good old tech?

I think that what is missing in the decentralised cooperating systems you refer to is everyone being on the same best page. Every participant must know which version of the shared project is being used and how much. Real detail. Hours of up time per repo commit. This information allows the swarm work to converge on the best and not splinter into isolated branches. The code needs to report on itself to all. (This can be done without spyware using anonymous meshing akin to reticulum.)

Hat off to you. In some societies there is a compulsory component of health insurance that insurers for long term care costs and therefore there is indeed a huge care economy. E.g..my son at 18 starts paying compulsory care insurance all his life. Insurance was invented in the UK to rescue families from destitution and all governments seem to prefer complex state admin procedures to funded rights. The UK needs its government to do its homework.

Yes but they are judging whether the Bundespolizei are allowed to wave through nearly all traffic. There is no victim. There is no crime. There is nothing what so ever that a court can object to. The need for some sort of imminent danger is not for the court to judge. The public should be able to sue the state for NOT controlling borders in case of illegal border crossings. The whole thing is completely loony and just exposes the absurdity.

I am going with zfs and sending snapshots from the main (mirrored) SSD to a raidZ2 array of HDDs and copy to a set of disks in a further set of disks in https://amzn.eu/d/0h2aDga2 as ext4 SATA as grab and run and 6 month, 4 month, 2 month, 1 month and 2 week air gaped ZFS backups.

If you find a an Andrioid smartphone (e.g. a lost one or a person who needs help and cannot speak) and the user has saved their emergency contact info in the phone, you can just press on "emergency" on the lock screen and find the stored emergency number immediately.

The way the post was written mixes two things. First the protection of nature and what the scientific & legal principles are that make a certain behaviour questionable. The other is your feelings about people who own something you would rather they did not. As there is no relationship between the two I suggest you address the two issues in separate posts because mixing them makes you look worse than they do as it displays a more hate/mobbing than rationality. If the code of the app is not able to be inspected, how can one use it happily? I never use third party tools from outside the #nixOS package repo unless I can inspect the code....so I am perplexed 🤔. Am I the only one that thinks like this? Have I missed something?

True. It is impossible to manage. It is a sort of vestigial rule that is not enforceable. Let's face it: the quantity of code vastly exceeds any patent scope in existence & so the idea that coders managing repos in their spare time will roll out lawyers at their cost to sue someone running a binary that may or may not itself be in black box terms your code but underneath God knows what MIT-licence type LLM output is hard to see. Alas gnu licence is now mega hard to enforce.

Great explanation. A patent is more appropriate than copyright (which as the link says does not work when LLM has done the job) because then re-coding in other forms is not going to change the infringement. If the code's technical purpose is patented then the owners of the patent can prevent those who seek to use it in a non-permissive manner from bringing it to market and let those who follow the copyleft philosophy use it for free. Of course patenting each step is too expensive.

Yes but updates do sneak in .....I think. This can be.monitored via alerts from Github. Strangely I had more problems when the #reticulum stack was being updated because making things backward compatible and compatible with all #meshchat versions was not really achieved if even possible... so now, with the "maintenance mode", so long as you can indeed flash your radios (plural, use two to at least be able to talk to yourself 😂) everyone will be on the same "page".

Turns out if you want to change the setting as to how much you hear of your own voice when in a phone call, the menu in android is only present when actually in a call & then of course the phone app is what you see not the hearing aid app. The problem was solved in 2 mins by chatgpt's advice. No-one can tell me that AI tools are only bad.
