i understand why it would be soldered from a practical sense, efficiency and all that. i'd have no issue with any other manufacturer making this computer the way it is. i take issue with framework, who again, built their entire business model around reducing waste, having full modularity and fill repairability, pulling a move like this where they just say fuck you, abandon their end goal, and then create this machine to please Linus and LLM obsessed people.

You can very easily build an equivalent PC using a micro ATX or ITX board if you really want a powerful desktop similar in size to the Mac Studio. I threw this together in PCPartPicker in 10 minutes. It costs $1500, around $600 less than the closest configuration on Framework’s website, and you have the added benefit of it being TRULY modular, as well as the ability to pick and choose parts, and buy used parts.
Framework’s desktop has no reason to exist.

Framework’s entire business model is based upon the notion that their computers are modular and repairable. Their laptops do that well, I’ll give you that.
However, when they come out with a desktop PC, which most desktop PCs currently are modular by default, it feels a but redundant. However when you make a desktop PC, and then you solder your RAM and CPU, then that just defeats the entire purpose of: 1. A desktop PC, 2. Your company’s business model.
Framework, the company which built its entire brand identity around not being like the others computers by being repairable, modular, and upgradable, has created a desktop PC and took away the ability to upgrade your CPU and RAM.
The worst part is that people are eating it up because it will be a “Mac Studio Killer”, which is true only because Apple is neglecting the Mac Studio. People are voluntarily accepting that a company that promotes repairability, upgradability and modularity is creating a device that SHOULD be upgradeable but is not.

Still never understood people who have the most personal shit on their phones while not having a passcode on it.
Just started working on phones from the recycling center today. Among those phones is an iPhone that has no passcode but has an iCloud account and FMI on. I look through the phone to see if I can log out and it has the following stuff on it.
- Name, birthday and addresses of the owner and their family members
- Usernames and passwords of their accounts, including the password for their Apple ID
- Banking information
- Photos of their driver's license and credit cards
- Medical records
- The university they go to along with their student ID
- Court documents
- Insurance related documents
I got the whole identity theft kit here how the fuck do you have all this shit on your phone and not have it password protected???
