and don't get me started on this nonsense about raised seals on birth certificates! Valid certifs were considered not valid if it did not have a raised seal, which of course millions did not have depending upon when they were issued. Laminated certificate--you're out of luck, pal. There is no end to this "prove who you are" game, and that's the entire point when it comes to voter id as a means to suppress.

I doubt shareholders are going to passively accept that revenues are reduced due to this new regulation. Mgmt will find other ways to generate revenue to replace cancelled fees. If mgmt fails to do this, shareholders will vote with their feet. That's the "shareholder value" ethic in action.

my guess is that, if he is caught and goes to trial, it will be like the OJ Simpson trial fascination, then fade away just like that faded away. If he is not caught, people will lose interest over time. It will require massive political and legislative action to reform. I would love this to be a turning point but I have lived and observed long enough to be skeptical.

I fear this is not "enough is enough." Anger from this shooting will fade soon as another news story grabs attention. Americans have put up with the harm and horror of our health care system so long that the murder of one CEO will not, I fear, summon the political will to reform.

Ariaflame's reasoning is abt as close as I can get to understanding. But it leads me to an underlying question: why do such parents and other people reject the authority of experts? They reject centuries of expertise gained from quantifiable observation in favor of whatever they pick up elsewhere from sources they trust. They know better than the experts. What drives this misplacement of trust? Why is a blogger more trusted than their doctor? Baffling.

my heart goes out to you knowing you have experienced this horror. What I cannot grasp is knowing that the vast majority of parents love their kids and think they are acting in their kids' best interest to withhold vax. Most of them honestly think they are doing the right thing. I cannot understand this.

As you point out, we are so used to subject-verb-object word order that passive voice can insinuate the object is the actor. As in, "mistakes were made" = the mistakes made themselves!
