Maps shouldn’t be ruled by the patriarchy—so let’s take them back.
From colonial borders to corporate-controlled GPS, #maps have always been tools of power. #OpenStreerMap is different: open, feminist, and built by the people.
This #IWD2026, #women, non-binary, and marginalized mappers: your streets, your stories, your map.
Add what’s missing. Reclaim the map. Join OpenStreetMap.

OpenStreetMap data powers The Washington Post's story about the size and territory of supermarket chains in USA.
OSM is more than a map, we're a database. Everyone (incl you!) gets the same full access to the data, for free. And if it's incorrect, you can fix it immediately. We love to see new and surprising uses of OSM data like this.
What will you create with OpenStreetMap?

Shout-out to out to our Communications Working Group (CWG) member (and OSM social media team member) Donitar Orishaba who staffed the OSMF table and participated in the OSMF Working Group panel at @npub1glp…7px7 in Nairobi this weekend. Representatives of the different groups shared about what each WG does and how they do it. Working Groups are the main way the OSMF supports OSM---and they are a lot of fun, too.

At OSM's "Mapchester" mapping party in Manchester, UK in 2006, a "cake diagram" was used to split the project into logical sectors with sector references.
