I had the unlawful order fight with the USAF in 1983 and about half of the senior enlisted and a third or so of the officers in my squadron were calling for a court martial before the investigation even properly began. The irony is that no charges were ever filed because my boss never issued the order that I told him I would refuse -- the stink got raised by people who'd heard second-hand why we were in the orderly room at 3AM looking up regs in the UCMJ. My boss came under tremendous pressure to lie and state that he had issued and I had disobeyed the order.
The US military is chock full o' cowardly adult children who would rather have a long stick up their ass than a backbone and almost none of the rest will stand up if it's not their ass that's on fire.

My recollection is that Oh-blah-blah unilaterally removed the public option BEFORE the bill was even on the negotiating table -- he said that the republicunts would never go for it and that was that. Because he was, by his own estimation, no more liberal than a Reagan republicunt.
