the problem with Solo and a few other things of that era is you don't actually need to canonize every decent fan theory. It would have been a better movie if they were just new characters

the hard choices that she helped create, when just letting the process continue on schedule wouldn't have needed to have any council votes

MassINC asked registered voters from the Boston area whether they would support more changes, the questions specifically asked whether respondents would support such changes "even if it means less space for cars."
79 percent said they would support more outdoor dining areas, 75 percent said they would support more protected bike lanes, and 67 percent said they would support more dedicated bus lanes

she went with "there were over 100 comments today all in favor of faster bike lanes and no one against them, but I bet if you surveyed the whole city, over half of residents would be against them"

my paraphrasing was obviously seething, but also in general I don't think there was much actually there, just seeking for a reason to defend hating bike lanes

the mayor is saying that churches throughout the city (that she approached to tell them to hate bike lanes) hate bike lanes because of gentrification right now, and therefore this extension, that the city staff explained the timeline will last until the deadline, is not a delay

Spent the night contacting over 100 bike supporters that signed up to give public comment at the city council meeting to ensure they would be in attendance when it was there turn to comment. Nearly everyone that we contacted was able to make their comment (nearly 2.5 hours) and many replied with their thanks for the service to coordinate everyone.
People are ready and passionate to support bike projects, they just need some organization.

that was kinda funny, but also I think Simmons likes to rudely dismiss people, so I felt for the commenter
There were a handful of people about short term rentals and about indigenous people, plus one person that kinda rambled and I'm not sure if she ever got to a point, but this was very much a pro bike comment period

2024-10-21 23:57:24 UTC

Nearly 2.5 hours of public comment, over 110 comments opposing delaying legally required and scheduled bike lane installs, exactly 1 comment in favor of the delay...
...but since he is a business district rep, his voice is likely more important than the rest of the community (vote hasn't occurred yet)

once the truck didn't run me over I was fine. Parked my bike just around the corner and some pedestrian that overheard/saw it chatted with me. But like, really reinforces how once you start paying attention to how crazy our streets are, you can't unsee it.

2024-09-19 15:48:35 UTC

Had an *experience* on my commute today. A vanity truck going the opposite direction jumped into my lane to skip some traffic. Luckily he stopped before killing me. But then when I wouldn't just let him continue his dangerous maneuver, he yelled at me "I know I'm wrong, NO GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY"
The story does end with a happy* ending, with the driver getting pulled over
*safer streets would be better, including outlawing this ridiculous truck design, but schadenfreude is not nothing

The city is starting to make plans. Staff are somewhat openly talking about the plans, but I don't think the city has made any public announcements.
It sounds like it's not going to be a dedicated effort like Somerville and Boston, but part of traffic calming related to street projects happening.
