I work at Automattic where I lead a team building tools for bloggers and creators. I talk a lot about WordPress things, but also about all things open source in general.

TIL about [CryptPad](https://cryptpad.org/ ), a Google Docs alternative. Somehow this is the first time I hear about it! The project seems pretty cool. @npub1gmn…zh7q wrote an extensive guide about it:

I’m thinking I may give it a try locally, although I will keep an eye on [the GitHub repo](https://github.com/cryptpad/cryptpad ) before I set up an instance for my family. I’m [not seeing a ton of activity in the past month](https://github.com/cryptpad/cryptpad/pulse/monthly ), but it could just be temporary. I do see that they have secured some EU funding, they already make money through their hosted instance, they make supporting them easy via OpenCollective, and [they’re open about their financial status](https://blog.cryptpad.org/2025/01/28/CryptPad-Funding-Status-January-2025/ ), so that’s all promising signs in my book!

@npub1e02…7m30 has been working on a new editor for WordPress, called [WordLand](https://this.how/wordland/ ). It is « *a focused and fast editor for writers who use WordPress*« .
The editor works well out of the box! If you have a WordPress.com site or a site using the Jetpack plugin, you can apply to be an early evaluator and tester by [filling out this form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeuk4REqAIkKs9vHf4ExMN_jtANenoDl0ciUxeLSFVmtehZ_Q/viewform ).
Expect a few more posts in the next few days as I keep playing with the tool!

Authentication happens on WordPress.com for self-hosted sites using the Jetpack plugin, so it should just work out of the box. 🤞
I’ll test when I get the chance and get back to you to confirm that!

That would definitely be a great improvement! The good news is, self-hosted WordPress site owners should already be able to use WordLand. [The Jetpack plugin](https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/ ) allows you to use the WordPress.com REST API from a self-hosted site. Anyone can install the plugin and start using WordLand, even if their site is not hosted on WordPress.com.
I’m looking forward to confirming that once I can try WordLand for myself!

Do you know the Fediverse logo?
It’s a nice logo. It’s colorful, and it’s a good representation of the different nodes in the Fediverse. That said, its many colors and many lines also mean it doesn’t necessarily work well everywhere. Sometimes you need a small, monochrome logo. This logo’s monochrome version doesn’t work as well.
Enter, the asterism: ⁂ It’s simple, it’s a unicode symbol so available on all keyboards and scalable. It can be colored or not. I think it could make for a nice representation of the Fediverse!
