bovaz

You can often find me in a fantastic valley ready to talk about rpgs, complain about work, cook an excess of calories and have a drink. (none of this is either metaphor or euphemism).
Also bovaz (npub1tgr…09xp), but I'm trying to move to using prevalently this.

Last night I was at a talk by a former leader of Italy's main center-left party. He expressed sentiments that I think are related to what you say.
He talked about the fact that "the left" identifies with ideas and policies, mostly stemming from "for me to have a better life, people around me should have a better life", while the "the right" identifies with leaders and brands.
Sadly, with how politics is communicated to people, through social media, but many news outlets and journalists are also "to blame", it favors the second type: it's much easier to show a fascist shouting a slogan, than someone discussing an issue and how to tackle it.

and things are gonna burn.
Today the manager of my manager tried giving me a speech about how we should all adopt llms in development.
His motivation is as follow: they sold to our consultancy customers the tale that AI would make development faster and cheaper. So now the customers are asking for everything to be delivered quicker and cheaper. So now the bosses are asking us to make everything quicker and cheaper, even though we told them it wouldn't work that way. So we won't be able to make everything magically quicker and cheaper.

The death of rss was cultural, tho. It disappeared from people's consciousness, even in the tech sector.
A couple years back, a friend working at a large multinational software company was talking with me about this cool project his backend colleagues were thinking about, that could revolutionize how content was distributed and updated in their infrastructure. He was really surprised when, unprompted, I revealed to him details of how it could and should work, and possible pitfalls they might encounter. They were trying to reinvent RSS because nobody in the company had even heard of it.

I think a while ago people would have said that villains who stack so many villainous "things" are unrealistic. Then the real world showed us worse.

Early in January we were on a beach, eating focaccias, and a friend of mine was mugged by a pair of seagulls. The first one "tagged" him by flying noisily over his head; the second one dove from a building and stole the focaccia out of my friend's hands.

Something similar in Italy.
That, and turning words like "socialism" into political slurs, for some fucking reason.

My issue with the word "slop" in this is that its translation in my language isn't immediate, because the closest (sbobba or brodaglia) aren't words we use much.
Meanwhile, google is wrong (translation online used to work, back in the good old days...):

cioè, va immagino a vantaggio di chi l'iva non la paga, quindi le imprese che la rigirano in fondo alla catena. Che quindi, per fare quadrare i conti, vuol dire che le cose costerebbero di più per la gente, e di meno per le imprese.
Giusto? Ho capito bene? Devo andare all'anagrafe e farmi aggiungere srl come secondo nome?

I've talked with people who were seriously annoyed by the fact that some vegetarian/vegan foods were "abusing" meat-food names.
I've only ever had two complaints myself:
1. I wish recipes (e.g. "veggie carbonara") had their own name, rather than "vegetarian/vegan X". Especially when "X" is vegetarian already, and you make it vegan (like "vegan parmigiana").
2. I bought a veggie burger once, and it ended up being clearly a veggie sausage sandwich, not a veggie burger. A very good one at that, but not a burger.

I like that. I think people should then also be able to opt-in to a "thing" where they also sporadically get posts that aren't in any of their chosen feeds, but are "related", for example by virtue of being in the feeds of the some of the people they follow, to give the sense of serendipitous discovery of new stuff. Maybe, a somehow tunable "serendipity factor" that widens the concept "related".
I think a tab like tab would usually be more useful/interesting than the local/global timelines.

A couple years back I had to explain what it is because the backend colleagues of a friend of mine from a big multinational company were trying to reinvent it.

I read that.
It's more like a cryptocurrency than a payment infrastructure.
I honestly don't see the reasoning why we would need something like that, rather than a single payment system to "replace" current card processors, or satispay, or the number of local payment systems that have cropped up recently. I would like something like Pix (the Brazilian payment system), for example.

I may have misunderstood this, but it looks like a cryptocurrency, rather than a payment system/infrastructure.

a customer sent us a requirement recently for a thing that should go on cloud infrastructure (they ask for commercial cloud as part of their requirement, which is already somewhat mad).
They demand 97%+ uptime from the infrastructure, which, ok, the providers say they give.
Then they demand 99%+ uptime from the applications on that infrastructure. And, I asked, they don't mean 97%*99%: they fully expect the server apps to be operational when the infrastructure isn't.

If I got that right, looks like they want to use activity pub as a feed for some of their tech (which makes sense to me), so they are supporting the ecosystem a bit (thus avoiding being left hanging by themselves, which also makes sense).
