As one of those able to absorb that inflation, I'm still pissed about it, less for myself than for the people I know who can't afford this shit.
But too many people in my socio-economic strata have never experienced being broke, let alone actually poor, and are unable to understand how much closer we are from being financially shattered than being as rich as our bosses.

I once worked at a company that hosted our ecommerce site on a box in our office connected to the world via a 10Mbit microwave connection that would get real flaky whenever the wind blew too hard.

I really, really hate the way Democrats choose to message.
"Are you concerned about DONALD TRUMP trying to DESTROY Barack Obama and Joe Biden's legacies?"
No. I Obama and Biden's legacies are the least important thing in the world to me. Their legacies have a LOT of negatives.
If I am trying to protect any President's legacy, it's fucking FDR's. And I'm not even really defending FDR, I'm trying to defend the things the did. Things that Obama and Biden didn't do much to protect.

I literally have friends who work on all levels of account infrastructure at Google, especially Account Recovery, and even I definitely do not want to deal with an account lockout if at all avoidable.

It's also worth noting that there is a WORLD of difference between a bit of PII being available just because you're present somewhere, and that PII being logged and correlated mass scale.
One is just the reality of existing in the world. The other is the definition of mass surveillance.

The industry has broadly considered MAC Addresses PII since *at least* 2014. The EU GPDR and California's CCPA have both enshrined this in Law.

That's basically the same argument for London's CCTV network.
But the other side of this that you're ignoring is that people's hardware was being used for this without their knowledge.
