exactly. I grew up in a place where American Chinese food was what served for “exotic cuisine”. I had to push my own boundaries to try other things, but most people I grew up with have probably never had like Indian food or Ethiopian food because they’d have to drive an hour to find any.

the biggest problem with this place is that it is what you make of it, so if (white) people like me don’t follow hashtags/etc about other cultures & groups, our feeds will tend to just look like us. Which is boring as hell so I try my best to expand what I follow, but I think most people just aren’t aware of their own myopia and so they never push their own boundaries.
This is one of the few things I miss about twitter - it was so good at putting perspectives that aren’t my own in front of me.
