If you dig Bataille, you might be into Carl Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc - often cited as a classic. To my eye, Pontecorvo and Dreyer are asking some similar questions about the boundaries of fiction on film, and... admittedly about how low you can shoot, which makes Welles a 'hold my drink'-level feat in both of those respects, ha.

totally, I get that the MIT switch was a big deal - and yes - ultimately an unfortunate indicator of changing educational culture/politics, but it always had a tinge of entitlement. I'm not necessarily concerned for the future of MIT CS grads, ha. they'll be fine.

no, more so that the rumour is flatt, findler, and krishnamurthy are all trying to distance themselves from associating with felleisen because of his not-great social/political views. I think that discomfort has something to do with the way the HTDP folks have splintered into their own languages/directions. my comment wasn't really relevant to the article - sorry!

Is there anyone who makes an argument that like "yes, computing should be sustainable, but hardware sucks cause it's fragile"? Not like the 100-year computer thing, but like the 20-year button. Like HCI but for people who hate when shit breaks? I think there's an ethos amongst the tech-oriented that hardware should be modular and/or easily repairable. I think all switches should be rated for 10 million presses before they should be allowed to be sold. There's way too low of a standard for cheap components, I'm just not sure how to couch that in a perspective that doesn't somehow relate to my health/death OCD. I'd very much like to explore existing arguments around this because it's a little expensive to complain to my therapist about physical interfaces as failure points.

Basically like sliding between pseudo-3d(?) plates with text and shapes, etc.. I think the generic/corporate term for this sort of thing is 'explainer'?
I have a bunch of video editing experience, a little bit of mograph work, but no compositing/animation experience, is resolve/fusion capable of this sort of thing? would using fusion for this be too forced or workaround-y?
I'd like to continue using resolve, if possible, but open to non-Adobe suggestions if there's especially good tools. Paid is fine, just no subscriptions. Everything will end up in resolve so bonus points for any sort of integration.

If I amass a MB or so of blog/wiki-oriented html every year, should I feel bad about, or attempt to mitigate the bandwidth and environmental concerns of potentially sending visitors to what would be a 5-20 MB page decades from now? Something feels off about that framing, like I’m somehow missing the point, or confused about what my concern is actually in reference to. I can’t imagine a lifetime of writing would be more than even a minute of 1080p video, so why the inner-termoil? Is 0 visitors to a fancy statically generated and optimized site better than a few visitors to a handwritten but slightly larger site?

A good few code visualization projects seem wrapped up/sidetracked in unraveling the complexities of their algol-like host langauges. Concatenative and rewrite systems, on the other hand, are often so simple, I have a hard time even imagining what a useful visualization would be. VM debugger can be too opaque/indirect, intermediate term rewrites are cool, but maybe too transparent to provide heuristic perceptual data. Less of a one-is-better argument, and more of a 'I wonder what I'm looking for'. Like, I wonder how much of the visual PL/structure editor space is devoted to trying to derive legibility from languages that have some degree of counterintuition baked in.

gotcha. so each box is an isolated vm until they are connected? and even when connected, nothing occurs between the two until the first writes to the device port? (i.e. there's no concept of "listening" openly, it just says "hey, I just had my device port written to and I listened")
