Wow! My Shia Inu has been waiting and sniffing in front of my refrigerator an oven for the last 2 days and I could not understand why. Well today, I got my answer. I saw something black moving behind the top often oven. It was a fuckig big black rat!!
I moved the oven and the rat ran behind the refrigerator. I moved te refrigerator and I couldn't find the rat. I then opened the back protection where the compressor is located. The rat was there looking at me. I grabbed a flashlight to see better and the rat was gone again! Then my dog spotted it in the living room. She immediately grabbed the rat and shook it violently. The rat died quickly, then she didn't want to give her kill away and I found myself running in circles after her trying to take the rat from her. After a minute she finally let it go. I threw the dead rat outside far away.

An old laptop works great. Just install a 2TB SSD hard disk. You then install Start9 OS or Umbrel, then make sure you install Bitcoin knots and not Bitcoin core if you don't like your node being a jpeg storage node.

Today was particularly bad. I called my car insurance ahead (Asesuisa) of going out for drinks and meet friends. I have the insurance policy for 12 designated drivers per year. I have used it 3 so far and it's great, you ask for a driver at a specific time and they come with another person in a car that follows you to your house behind your driver that drives your car back home.
Awesome service. You have to know that El Salvador now has 0% alcohol driving laws since December 2024. Even mouth wash that gets a 1 on the device would get you in jail.
Buy today, when I spoke to the lady at the call center, she refused to give me a designated driver. She kept saying that this service is reserved to 'health' services.
I kept telling her she was wrong and I pay for that service. She ignored me and I was so mad I Hung up the call. I then contacted the Asesuisa WhatsApp support and asked them if it was new policy because if it was I would cancel my car insurance.
Then I got a phone call, it was the director for the region. He spoke English and knew my name.
He told me that the person at the call center was confused and was in error...
He then told me to call his number directly next time to get a designated driver and he will make sure it will happen.
Wow!! I told him that was an awesome service and I will call him for sure.

🌋☀️ As an expat living in El Salvador for over 16 months, life's a Bitcoin dream! Waking up to perfect 82°F (28°C) weather in the mountains and hiking volcanoes—pure bliss. The beaches are nice but a bit too hot and humid for my taste long term. The people? Incredibly warm and welcoming; Salvadorans' hospitality makes you feel at home instantly.
Business-wise, it's a goldmine for Bitcoiners. Even if BTC as legal tender was reversed by the government last February because they were forced by the devil IMF, nothing has changed much other than the government stopped accepting Bitcoin payments for their services. I personally would rather give my Bitcoin to local businesses and people for products and services than to government honestly.
Starting a business venture here is seamless—no red tape, low taxes, quick incorporation and endless opportunities here. For a single person business, there's a new Simplified Incorporation framework that only takes 2 days to create and you only need to provide 1$ minimum investment and 1 shareholder. It's called Constitución de Sociedades por Acciones Simplificadas (S.A.S. de C.V.). So, it's really easy and affordable compared to the classic S.A. de C.V. (Sociedad es Anónima) that requires 2 shareholders minimum and 2000$ minimum investment.
The expat community's buzzing with innovators, people all around the world, weekly Bitcoin networking in restaurants that accept Bitcoin and circular economies. Tons of local teenagers and young adults are getting educated about Bitcoin by @nprofile…v0mq and are receiving a Bitcoin diploma after they complete the course. These teenagers will become adult soon and will totally be Bitcoinners and be part of that massive worldwide movement. I'm super bullish over that fact.
Cost of living? Affordable but more pricey than other Central American countries. If you buy a house there are no property taxes and if you earn an income from outside the country, like a remote worker, you pay 0% tax here on that income. Living in a super safe place like El Salvador surpass cheaper and dangerous places like Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Belize. Safety's improved massively under Bukele.

The bill was due for tomorrow. So I took another chance to revisit the Claro payment page to pay with Bitcoin. 2 months ago I tried it and it was broken, even the Claro customer support couldn't help...

Too bad I'm shutting down my lightning node. It was my second attempt in 2 years. First time it was a hardware failure on a home server and I didn't notice and channels were remotely closed. Last attempt was on a VPS in the cloud. I monitored via Zeus on mobile but it didn't tell me mynodee became out of sync and 8 good channels were forced closed right at the highest in bitcoin fees.
VPS fees were not covered by the routing fees alone. I was loosing too much money and my motivation for running a low fee node has shifted recently.

You guys running #Bitcoin Lightning nodes, like myself, know that you are running a hot wallet and the seed phrase is in plaintext in a file? Right? Is that server well protected, up to date and monitored?
This is not a fix all, but at least the private key is safe: There is a new gadget around that I have to test, it's a HSM for LN node. It keeps the seed phrase external.
