Given its extremely high energy and water consumption, the increased minimum system requirements driving premature hardware obsolescence, among other very problematic social and political issues, genAI/LLMs are not compatible with the values and goals of KDE Eco.
KDE is a diverse community and the opinions and projects of some KDE contributors are not representative of the entire community or KDE Eco projects.

What's good for hardware is good for the budget … and environment! 🌻
LliureX #Linux with #KDEPlasma in Valencian schools saves the public administration *3.5 million euros a year* for 110,000 computers. [1]
* School HW has lifespan up to 18 years while running up-to-date software [2]
* Cheap easy-to-manage "light clients" ideal for very old upcycled HW [3]
* LliureX-Shutdowner saves energy by turning off unused computers school-wide [4]

First Oct 2025. Then Oct 2026. Now Oct 2027!?!
#Microsoft 's extensions of #Windows10 EoL shows how arbitrary the decision is.
If you must buy a computer get a #Linux device 🐧 and say enough with premature hardware obsolescence.
#FreeSoftware #OpenSource supports HW until it stops working. As it should be!
#KDE supporters @npub1kj4…4my6 @npub154e…vg3k @npub1sfg…fqh4 @npub15f7…m7wr sell HW with #FOSS out-of-the-box. It's repairable HW too!

Digital sustainability at one of #Hannover 's (Germany) largest 🍎 schools!
At a 2-day workshop at the end of May, 10 enthusiastic students learned how software determines the operating life of their devices.
They then rolled up their sleeves and upgraded 5 laptops to make them usable again with #FreeSoftware #OpenSource (#Fedora, #Debian, #MXLinux #KDE #Plasma6).
Now they decide where to donate the laptops: To the school, the library or people in their community 🚀

> Laptops, Smartphones und andere Geräte werden schnell "alt". Dabei spielt Software eine große Rolle. Oft bekommst du nach 3-5 Jahren die Meldung, dass dein Gerät die Mindestanforderungen für das neuste Update nicht mehr erfüllt. Oder eine App, die du installieren willst, benötigt ein Update, das dein Gerät nicht unterstützt. Das ist ärgerlich, besonders wenn das Gerät eigentlich noch funktioniert.
