It's literally my own personal experience across 2 Intel macbook pro laptops and the experience of people asking for help in slack with fixing their dev environments on mac after each update.
I don't mind if you don't believe me because I'm not trying to sell you anything. I'm just telling you what experiences have led me to consider the OS (main culprit) and the underlying hardware bad.

Sort of, it's literally the use case most aligned with "something a windows user would try out at some point" while supposedly using all this container and display tech that makes it more "secure" and doesn't let it proprietary software spy as much, which is a Linux "advantage" that gets touted a lot.

Ok, got it. I thought you were implying it was good for devs, or better for dev work than other simply because it gets chosen by a large number (who are most likely developing for Apple platforms and will only see a fraction of the issues)

I work at a company with ~5000 software devs. We work with Go, Python, C++, Java, Kotlin, and pretty much every other language under the sun. The Macs are a constant unending source of issues when developing because they fuck up your dev tools with each update at random.

My favorite thing to do to prove how ready Linux is for the desktop is to take Discord running inside a Flatpak and then run it on a KDE Wayland on an AMD GPU, open a embedded YouTube video, fullscreen it, and watch the whole system hard freeze after 30 seconds or so.
I don't even know if it's wayland fucking up, mesa fucking up video acceleration (again) or something else.

I work with Macs as part of my job and they fucking break your entire toolchain all the fucking time. Game developers fucking hate the damn things too.

Why would I give a damn about battery life on a laptop if I need a desktop? Why would I care about performance on some ARM CPU if I need x86-64 compatibility? Why make a solid aluminum block body if the ventilation and design is still made so it overheats and breaks eventually?
They are literally designed for 3 use cases and if you don't need those they fucking suck. And even then, they still suck because they are designed to break.
In any case my point was more about the OS than the crappy hardware.

Man, it's so jarring that any options when it comes to operating systems are all bad in some glaring way or another.
Windows had the closest thing to a fully working formula and then decided to steadily ruin it by continuously adding bloat, and increasingly abusing the user. It also sucked ass if you were trying to develop anything but desktop software for Windows.
Linux distros have components perpetually reinventing themselves and running in place forever (and sometimes backwards), except for those rare times a corporation or exceptional individual decides to move some aspect of the desktop experience forward. Only developers can get significant value out of it.
macOS is essentially forever tied to shitty expensive computers, goes out of its way to be different for no reason, and sucks ass if you don't fit the 3 user profiles they are designed for or if you're developing code for anything that isn't an Apple platform.
