Maybe I can update it so that when you use the search term “nostr” you get results for other relevant terms like “ostriches”?
Ultimately the best way would be to upload nostr gifs and caption them
Then once we build up enough of a repository for that key term then I could just search nostr.build instead of Tenor

There have been a couple comments in my feed from people expecting to paste a nostr.build address so that could be cool
Your API is fast already, it's mostly that nip98 AUTH requires me to publish a Kind 27235 note, which takes time to broadcast with my current library
Were you thinking this API would be separate from nip98?

Humbled by the response and the use of gifbuddy.lol
I built this app because I love gifs and I love nostr
I thought it would just be something I could use until my favorite client integrated gifs natively, but I always thought by the time I actually built something it would be obsolete
But the memes from @npub1lrn…qnw5 and that one time @npub1a2c…w83a posted about not having gifs easily accessible kept the idea in the back of my mind
Shout out to @npub137c…k37w for taking the time to help me with the @npub1nxy…avr7 API and to @npub1vp8…npsw for the slick iPhone double tap shortcut that pulls up gifs faster than my native iMessage plugin
I pushed an update to gifbuddy and am going to sleep so hopefully it doesn't break

I took your advice and built a gif nostr companion app:

You can download the PWA to your home screen, search for your gif, copy the address and paste it into your client
On the back end, for every gif that gets copied/clicked, an API request is made to upload to @npub1nxy…avr7 by @npub137c…k37w
From there a nip94 request is done so that the content can be accessed by any client in the future
Now, anyone who searches for gifs using this tool is also helping to build the gif repository for nip94 and adding fallback urls to nostr.build
And all they did was click to copy #gifs

Well thought out and makes a lot of sense
I do wonder though if future improvements to user interfaces could enhance idealistic donations and retroactive support
For example, the new Nostr version of GitHub could easily support zaps/contributions
Will the direct P2P nature of these protocols paired with their unrestricted use facilitate the funding of open source development?
The UI/UX will only improve and the network effect will only strengthen from here

Thumbnail and metadata like duration could easily be incorporated with the bot
Description is a bit trickier though, I agree
Only thing that comes to mind is to have an AI transcribe the content and then summarize and title it, but would be costly
Would only be able to rely on zaps to get value back so maybe not the best idea
Just thought I’d throw it out there because people post a bunch of videos as Kind 1s that would be great to build the Flare repository with, but very few people will do the work to post in both areas

The DVM currently only does Speech to Text for Nostr events, but I can update it to work with urls if the PDF is available online
Full disclosure though, the cost is $0.36/1000 characters (not words) so for a full length book it could be more than $100 depending on the length

I have the gif keyboard from Tenor but even when I copy to clipboard, I can’t even paste to my note; I have to save to photos first and then upload it as an image

Has anyone thought about the marriage of WebRTC and Nostr?
If Nostr adds audio and video calling to its message and money transfer services then phone numbers are obsolete. Like a decentralized, open-sourced Whatsapp that can maintain anonymity.
From my limited understanding, WebRTC requires a "Signaling" server to manage the peer-to-peer connection.
Would this become a client-side integration?
A Data Vending Machine?
Or is there another way to do this entirely?

I mostly agree, but I get stuck on this sometimes:
publishing a DVM event, listening for a reply, paying the invoice, and then publishing the result is slower than a traditional API.
It's a tradeoff in that an API requires setup, login, credit card info in order to have "faster" calls.

I like the idea of classifying file metadata so that it can be parsed in a search, but the NIP itself doesn't solve the original repository problem, right? By this I mean, where do we find the gifs to feed event kinds 1063? That's where I feel like an a supplementary service is needed to start (e.g. Tenor, Giphy, etc). Let me know if I'm thinking about this in the wrong way.

Could someone create a proxy service for you using Tenor as the backend and allow usage of the proxy service without any identifiable information?
This service could even cache some requests to limit the API calls to Tenor
Could be open source and verifiable

I was thinking that originally, but I don’t think the event range 54XX is exclusive to nostr search as much as that’s all that event range has been used for so far
I’ll work on a mock up tonight; hoping to get it around the speed you have on Noogle, but I’m concerned that the time to have Client publish request->DVM api call->DVM publish result->Client render result might be too long

Seems like I could make a DVM for this to shield client developers from data extraction being associated with their app
But I think this would constitute a new event kind and I don’t know a gif search is considered 52XX Image Manipulation or 54XX Discovery, thoughts?

That's pretty slick! I like how it saves the recording you paid for and allows other people to use it without the need for repayment.
Seems like translations (audio or text) could follow the same flow and be available to everyone as well.
Do you have a workflow for users to add audio content to their own RSS feed? Would I get my own podcast channel that's "Highlighter for Lemon"?

I just realized that the DVM is only searching for events through the Damus relay
Any events you try that aren’t in that relay likely won’t work

Alright, I just pushed some updates. Which means it's either broken or fixed.
- Published a NIP-89 announcement
- Added 5250 request in output
The code for the DVM is not organized well so I might redo the whole thing if you think you'll use it often.
I had to update the pricing for the DVM because it was set at $0.01 for every request, regardless of length (the value would fluctuate in sats relative to bitcoin price). It's now set to $0.36/1000 characters of content.
Let me know if it's no longer competitive, but it's the best price I can give right now with the services I'm using.
It currently only works for "event" type inputs, but I can add "text", if needed. It should work for other languages too.
Does the DVM not work on any Long Form Content Kind 30023?

I was using Mutiny earlier and wanted to send my maximum amount, but the amount displayed on the screen vs. what I can actually send are different.
Once I get the error I can see my channel capacity and what my outbound is, but it’s not visible on Home Screen.
From a UI perspective, why include the reserve in the Home balance if I can’t spend it?

I started playing around with the Resend email API and it’s pretty cheap at about $0.0004/email and AWS email service is even cheaper so I can’t imagine it’s that.
