For several years now, public EV charging points in Amsterdam have also been used to provide temporary power supplies for construction projects and events, for example. The city is now actively promoting this as an alternative to diesel generators on construction sites.

Can the Rhine provide enough thermal energy for this and other large heat pumps? Yes.
On average, 2,000 m³ of water flows through the river in Mannheim every second. Lowering all of that by one °C yields 8,4 TWh of heat per hour. This equates to more than 50,000 of these 165 MW pumps.

Mannheim 🇩🇪 takes the lead 🥇 with the 165 MW (an increase from the planned 150 MW) heat pump, extracting heat from the river, prosaically named 'Flusswärmepumpe 2'.
The Rhine, like other rivers a source of German lyric, surely deserves a better name for something to which it gives so much warmth?

Mannheim 🇩🇪, which has had a 20 MW heat pump using the Rhine as a heat source for two years, is planning to add two more: one 100 MW unit and another with a capacity of 150 MW. The latter is on a par with the Rhine heat pump under construction in Cologne, but Mannheim leads on total capacity.

Today Zurich 🇨🇭 celebrates the opening of the city tunnel - entirely dedicated to cyclists. Once planned as a motorway through the city centre, the plans have changed for the better, giving way to active mobility (and lots more bike parking at the main station).

Insane! Even with taxes, my residential electricity price (in 🇳🇱) is minus 28 cents tomorrow 13-14:00!

The dominant narrative is that electric vehicles are heavily subsidised. In fact, it's fossil fuel cars that are still heavily subsidised in key European markets. Removing fossil fuel subsidies also means less spending on electric vehicles to compensate for this unjustified advantage.

What nonsense proclaimed there about 'technology openness', referring to BMW's announcement to build hydrogen cars (NB: in 2028! with Toyota technology!), about synthetic fuels, about the 'need' to abandon the 2025 CO2 limits.
