This #BASIC program from #sinclairuser allows you to calculate the cost of running any appliance for a given length of time.
Input the time used, the wattage of the appliance, and the cost of electricity per unit. If you do not know the wattage then you can input the voltage of the appliance and the current in amps printed on the fuse.

In 1983 #sinclairuser interviewed Tom Dent, a doctor who made some educational programs for his six-months-old daughter, Sophie.
Now that we are questioning the use of screens by young children, it's interesting to read some thoughts from Dr. Dent: "(the Spectrum) is a good teacher, but I think the children would miss school friends, football and so on. We hope that Sophie might learn from the computer to read and perhaps to write before she begins school"

With this 'blind method' no words will be displayed on the screen until you press Enter.
