Hi. We made a thing. You may play it. It is a little "survivors" style game about communication and severe space weather. It's clean, and should be pretty funny and mostly fun. Very off balance, but eh, we did our best.
No web build this time, performance was a big challenge during the game jam, and we haven't found a way to solve it yet. You can skip donation with the "No thanks, just take me to the downloads" link in the popup.

What are some severe space weather conditions? Not ones on earth, ones in space. For example Solar Winds, or extreme cold/heat. Radiation? Can be local to a planet such as Storms of Jupiter too.
Looking for a list of Things that are "severe weather conditions" for spaceship themes. This is for a jam game we are making, and we are theming around our local solar system planets. Go ahead and be silly, we need random ideas! It's got a bit of a B movie theme/attitude.

Anyway I highly recommend you all use godot or unreal. They have worse UI controls but at least don't gaslight you or make the interface work on some zoom levels but not others.
(Like what even are you doing to my handles Unity, where I have to keep zooming in a stupid amount to grab them instead of the whole object? They are the same size on the screen...)

The year is 2024, and Unity still does not appear to have a hotkey to grab only the anchor points of a given UI object.
I'm tired of dragging the little blue circle, or the edges of other objects, or selecting other things by mistake. Who knew making a box stay put on the screen across devices would be so hard?
(This would be also solvable by making an option to set anchor corners automatically by the UI object's position currently displayed right there in the editor. But alas.)

I'm not free to discuss or share exact code, NDA and client confidentiality. Looking for more like, theory, or tooling, or strategies.
Brute force is taking way too much time. And because the code change happens during a multiplayer match process, I have to build to my phone each time I test a new debug log tactic, and cannot suspend the Unity editor with pause due to losing the multiplayer state to a timeout.

Ok #unity3d #code masters. I've got a really annoying situation at work. Our tools are Unity, Photon PUN (old I know but I don't get to pick this one) and playfab.
When a player first logs into playfab, I get their ID just fine.
Somewhere between that, the photon join a room layer, and the end of the game, player id's end up changed to pull irrelevant data (no longer set to the playfab player id string.)
Is there a way to sniff out what function/action of the game code is doing the change?

#gamedev What tools exist for making or prototyping 3d levels?
I don't mean Unity, Blender, or that kind of tool. I mean tools designed for the rigors of redesigning and quickly experimenting with 3d space of the level environments? What do you all use for the "block this idea out and run around to see if it looks/feels as cool as how you think it does in your own head."

#ld55, how do things rank get determined? Are compos in their own rank and then jam ones come after?
Lots of devs are sharing their scores, and as a jam team it gets confusing how good/badly someone ranked. I get compo entries would probably score against only other compo ones, that makes sense. The compo is harder after all. I am unsure how jam or late submissions work on the total rankings? Would love more info on how to read the results if anyone knows.
