Oh lawd, awake since 05:30 after changing my morning alarms to that last night. As the polar opposite of a morning person this hurts my soul immensely. However, it's because of a positive change that I have to start waking up this early, so I'll take it.
Now, with my stomach rumbling but no appetite due to too early, it's time for coffee, a shower, and getting some of today's tasks done.

Yeah that's how it's supposed to be done but I'm not very good at dishes that take longer than an hour or so max (and planning ahead) lol. But I'll for sure try to make the more proper type of dough. And hopefully be able to turn them into pizza within a week lol.

Made pizza dough for the first time. Not the best recipe (it wasn't the kind that has to rest for 6-24 hours, which makes it much better AFAIK), but still good!
I hadn't planned this at all so I had no good toppings, so I used some strange minced meat dish I found in the freezer. But I kinda works. I have three lumps of dough left so, pizza for days. Just need to get better toppings.

ProTip for all bedside water keepers: a straw. I find it much easier to drink through a straw when I'm half asleep because it requires less effort and you have a lower risk of accidentally drowning yourself trying to tip a glass of water at your face lying down.
Just maybe wear goggles the first time before you get used to it.

Just found my new favorite Meshuggah track. Not that I've heard too many of their songs, but this one is by far the best one I've heard. It's ridiculously heavy. Like eating a bowl of jackhammers and helicopters and machine guns and genocide with your entire body while an army of tank-booted soldiers stomp on you in unison while screaming with the voices of ten million angry wasps with chainsaws.

Vivaldi really is the benchmark to beat when it comes to browsers for power users. Sadly I don't have it in me to support the Chromium hegemony, so I very rarely use it. Really really wish they switched over to a Firefox base because the feature set of the browser itself is absolutely amazing.

Well well well. Major music software/hardware maker Native Instruments, that was sold to private equity a couple of years ago much to the chagrin to their users, is apparently about to go bankrupt.
Basically the biggest developer of plugins, sample packs etc with an incredible ecosystem. I can't help but feel that they really must have been criminally mismanaged to end up in such dire straits.

I remember when I studied information security at the uni, and the professor mentioned electronic locks to entrances and shared spaces of residential buildings as a privacy issue, since the landlord could see which households entered different doors and when, and most of the class though that was a good idea because of the surveillance it affords. 😐

My goal is Maschine-like hardware integration and workflow on not Windows. 😭 Another solution is running Windows in a KVM under Linux with USB hardware pass through. But that's a bad solution for other reasons.
But Bitwig's feature set is the new gold standard. I just wish I could use it from a dedicated controller. But maybe a combination of controllers could do the trick. An maybe a touchscreen on top of that.

Yeah, there are some standalone sequencers out there that are pretty good I'm sure, like the mc707. But then we're still moving pretty far from the thing that I'm trying to keep - the MPC/Maschine type of feature set and workflow, and layout. Haha I sound like such a whiny bitch rn. I honestly appreciate the input though. The more info I have the better ideas can pop up.

Software is not the problem (although those two look interesting and I'll have a closer look 👀), it's hardware integration I'm after with this one. Hands-on, physical pads, knobs and buttons, and built-in screens so I don't have to look at the computer monitor.

The ability to run a 16 pad MPC type drum machine+sequencer, with premium integration of the physical controller (so basically only Maschine or an MPC), while not using Windows/Mac. I already have a Maschine Mk1 and a Maschine Jam, but, well, Windows. The Jam worked with older versions of the Maschine+ firmware at least. Not sure about the new firmware.

Maybe a Maschine+ could be a solution for my Linux #DAW problem. And just run it and the Jam (if they still work together) in standalone, and sync via MIDI to Bitwig running in #Linux. And do audio exports via SD card (🥴) to the computer. A shit solution, but might be the only way to ditch Windows completely.

Most genres I've ever heard live. 😅 I do agree that for instance "Afraid to shoot strangers" has a live recording that's better than the studio version.
But I mean live as in being there. Live recordings don't really count because they're recorded via mic and line in plus ambiance mics, and are usually properly mixed for release in post AFAIK. They don't capture the shitty acoustics etc. nor the annoyingness of the crowd. 😅

It feels like an incredibly vast majority of people love to see their favorite artists/bands live. Many prefer the live performances over the recordings. I've never heard anyone say they prefer the records.
I feel like a complete oddball for not only preferring the recorded and carefully mixed and mastered studio versions, but for kind of disliking live performances. Worse acoustics, worse sound, worse performances (maybe all electronic music is different on this), annoying crowds...

Super feature: Charging cables with a built in LED.
My Dell laptop from 2011 just died during boot and was completely dead after that. After a while I noticed the blue LED on the cable was off for the first time ever. Tried unplugging it from the wall and then back in and the LED came back on, and the computer tried booting again, until the same thing happened again.
But the second attempt worked and were back up and running (for now 🤞). Without the LED I'd have assumed the laptop was dead.

Ooh, Pulsemixer and Wiremix look really interesting. Well, I can't find a screenshot of the latter but still. The reason why I like a widget is because they're on every desktop, always accessible, and most programs I use are still mouse based so I'm on the mouse most of the time anyway it feels like, so I'm stuck in that line of thinking. 😅

I can move windows too with a few keystrokes. ;) But yeah I bet it's a nicer custom fit once you've set everything up. But ok, here's my most common deal breaker with DEs. Audio widget. I need to be able to adjust individual app volumes in the audio widget, and set audio device per app as well (as well as globally of course), right there in the widget. Can Sway handle that?
I remember hearing something like that about the Hyprland dev now that you mention it. That sucks.

That's an interesting analogy, RTS games. I've never thought about it in that way. Although I'm more of an FPS and driving sim person myself. 😁 That looks sort of how I have it setup, but with virtual desktops and fancy zones holding a plethora of apps of a certain "topic" on each desktop in a grid with minimal app overlap. And switching between desktops(/"topics") with a single macro-key press. However, I'm not down in the nitty gritty like that guy is.

From what I hear KDE 6 is less buggy than 5 was, even though both were/have been working almost flawlessly for me. I do remember being stuck with KDE bugs for ages in Ubuntu back in the day though. 😄
I like the idea of TWMs, and feel the urge to use one, but I mostly use GUI applications that need their specific sizes. I guess "fancy zones" are the best fit for me, until I find more TUI apps (are there any good curated lists out there?).

Arch seems great, especially if you want to (be forced to) learn more about how Linux works. I hear a lot about the AUR. OpenSuse has the Open Build Service which is basically their AUR, but I've only needed it once I think.
You mean due to the bleeding edge nature of the updates or something else? On Tumbleweed KDE is pretty solid actually, and in general Tumbleweed is only a couple of days to about a week after Arch in terms of updates iirc.

I haven't got a clue lol. I don't know what makes package systems differ from each other. To me it's just a filename suffix. I went with Tumbleweed because I wrote down a set of requirements (no reinstalls for updates, so basically rolling, stable and no fuss, Wayland, KDE as an official DE, BTRFS with snapshots etc etc), and Tumbleweed seemed to be the only fit, at least of the major distros.

I'm guessing people just go the mainstream route and chose the RedHat branch if they want an RPM-based distro? 🤷 And some I've heard dislike the fact that a company (SUSE) is doing the upstream stuff, where I so far at least see it as a positive.
Just found their mission statement and it's basically "flexible and powerful". Doesn't really say much imo. I'd add stability to that given their immense testing before pushing things. Tumbleweed is rock solid.

That's interesting. But yeah smartphones are eating away at the little space that is left for DSLRs. They still can't do proper shallow depth of field and I still haven't seen a fake out of focus blur that didn't make me cringe, but I'm sure with time they'll be "good enough" at that too. But with all the processing and fakery, when are you no longer taking a photo and instead just generating pixels based on a visual suggestion? 🤔

I used to think several cameras on a smartphone was a silly gimmick. But I really like having access to both wide angle and telephoto besides the regular one. The only sad this is they usually don't have the same quality as the main shooter. So maybe a set of detachable lenses for the main shooter is a better idea?

I use uMatrix and it's set to reject all cookies by default, and some rare sites just keep insta-spamming the cookie request, even if I click their "reject cookies" option, until I allow cookies in uMatrix. They apparently need to store the no to cookies in a cookie. 🤦

You know that's a pretty obvious approach now that you mention it. 😂 The reason why I didn't was because I was focused on OpenSuse based distros for my mom since that's what I use, and thusly would be what I could support the best, and they sadly don't have any live boot. However, I could of course run some other distro in live boot just to test the touch capabilities, since they should (hopefully) be the same on an OpenSuse distro as well. I'll make a note of that in my Linux notes!

I avoided Gnome because she's a decades long Windows user and I suspect Gnome's usability-standard breaking usability would be frustrating for her (I know I personally find Gnome absolutely infuriating to use, even way worse than Win 11). Gnome also ran a lot slower than KDE on my test rig, and my mom's previous laptop that we tried Linux on was anemic. But I haven't properly evaluated Gnome in tablet mode. I probably should. But I don't know how without sacrificing my own 2-in-1. 😅

Yeah I asked about a tablet and she wasn't too keen on the idea. Plus, she thinks her 14" laptop is almost too small. With the right specs (14+" and the latest OS) a tablet would cost about twice the price of her laptop and wouldn't last as long given her laptop can get Linux when it gets sluggish (and hopefully the touch experience is better by then), while the tablet would just stop receiving updates and become an insecure piece of scrap metal.

Yeah we of course tried Linux first. If you can get an immutable KDE distro to work 100% in tablet mode on a 2-in-1 laptop then message me! Because the only virtual keyboard I could install (Maliit) didn't work in any Electron apps (and touch was glitchy and inconsistent in other apps). And that made the computer unusable for her, because she uses it almost exclusively as a tablet, and runs Electron apps. 🤷

My mom has just bought a brand new laptop. Some flashy (albeit low mid-range) AMD "AI" CPU with 6 cores and 16 Gb RAM. It came with #Windows 11 plus extra #Lenovo bloat, and I'm absolutely disgusted and infuriated to say my **14 year old** laptop runs snapper with #Linux. You seem to use the emoji picker very differently than anyone I've ever heard of. The Windows emoji picker is great. You write a text somewhere, and you want an emoji right there where the cursor is at - you launch the picker, click on the emoji(s) you want (which is inserted at the cursor) and then close the picker. There's no confusing which document you're writing in.

#Linux and #KDE people, can we all agree that the emoji picker in KDE is a complete dumpster fire?
Not only does it not insert the emoji in the text field when you click the emoji (#Wayland issue?), all the different skin tones are completely separate emojis, clogging the absolute shit out of the window. 😩
The window is also laggy as all hell.
2025 is clearly not the year of the Linux emoji desktop...

Problemet är att det inte är min sida så jag kan inte jobba på serversidan. :D
Det är en sida som tidigare har funkat fint från alla enheter jag testat, men nu helt plötsligt så funkar den inte alls från två olika bredband (båda är IPv4 enbart), varken från datorer (Win/Linux) eller mobiler (Android/Apple), men via mobilnätet funkar det från båda mobilerna från olika mobilleverantörer. 🤨

Any network engineers who can shed some light on if an nginx 403 error can come from a site refusing IPv4 connections? The site in question (readanybook.com) works when used from an IPv6 enabled network and that's the only difference I can see.

I'm not much of a traveler, but, in theory at least, one place I'd love to explore one day is the island of #Capri in #Italy. It just seems SO spectacular and wonderful. I could spend a month there just exploring every nook and cranny and learn all about the history of the place.

Seems weird. But it could be several different explanations I think. Wrong config at your ISP, your ISP having some weird issue, your ISP caching the file, your ISP having a fast internal route to the network you're downloading from that isn't capped by your broadband bandwidth limit, you having downloaded the file partially before and your local cache is counted as download speed. Etc. 🤷

As someone who creates and manages my tasks in #Obsidian using the Tasks plugin, the app #SuperProductivity that I learned about yesterday really piqued my interest since it not only seems really awesome for task management etc in and of itself (plus it's #FOSS!), but there are rumors that there might be some sort of Obsidian connectivity/compatibility coming in the future. 👀
I am drooling over this possibility.
