My favourite excuse is "it would be too hard for people to run anyway, it's ten services split across big iron with esoteric hardcoded environment requirements." Meanwhile, when Genshin Impact server binaries got leaked, people managed to get things self-hostable very very quickly despite missing critical db things that weren't included in the leaks.

This is a funny natural consequence of him being self-effacing. It seems like a good comparison in that everyone wants to be a late adopter, but certain entities (uncooperative dependencies) being late adopters is actively harmful to the process and it becomes a chicken and egg problem for adoption.

I'm already at 2 phones 2 laptops as a hard minimum for this trip (anything less and I won't be able to continue moving around indefinitely) and I'd like to take a tablet and smaller portable oled monitor too. Bringing a 15.6" portable monitor as well seems like asking for trouble, though perhaps not on the same level as if I had decided to bring my three identical tablets.

I destroyed 2 portable screens attempting this lol. Loose panel guarantees I won't have to risk the same shucking procedure, and that it will have the eDP connector in the correct location (getting another unknown portable monitor may have a panel where it's on the other side, or further up vertically, and there's very little slack on the eDP cable)
