Behörden sind echt eine andere Welt. Es ist Mittag und es gibt keine Kantine, macht aber nichts, weil es ist Innenstadt und an jeder Ecke gibt's einen Imbiss. In jedem Unternehmen würden die Angestellten dort hin gehen und zusehen asap zurück zu kommen. Hier geht man in der Gruppe (4-5 Leute) und holt das Essen. Üblicherweise trägt es einer, die anderen sind zum socializing dabei. Das dauert 45min bis 1h. Dann setzt man sich gemeinsam in einen der Meetingräume und verbringt weitere 45min mit Essen. Zeiterfassung gibt es in dem Sinne nicht. Die erfolgt per Eintrag in einer Excel-Datei und die rechnet automatisch 30min Mittag. Die tragen dort echt nur ein wann sie gekommen und gegangen sind.

Wow, das interne Adminteam (12x) hat in einer Woche ganze 14 Server neue aufgesetzt. Die externen Consultants (3x) und der Projektmanager nebenbei, weil eigentlich haben die andere Aufgaben, 33. Alle die gleiche Vorgehensweise, aus dem Tool das OS und die Software installiert, dann Backup von vor dem Incident zurückspielen.
Die sind nicht mal sonderlich unfähig. Die sind einfach nur stinkend faul!

Mein Horrortrip bei der Behörde geht weiter. Freitag Morgen ist 45min Meeting angesetzt um alle auf den Stand zu bringen, was über die Woche passiert ist, die Abteilungen die Möglichkeit haben ihre Aufgaben und Ablaufpläne für die nächste Woche anzupassen, die dann am Montag beim Auftaktmeeting abgestimmt werden und jeder weiss was über die Woche wann passieren soll. In dem Meeting sind Behördenleiter, alle Abteilungsleiter, Projektmanager und wir Consultants, heute 16 Leute anwesend.
Wie gesagt, es geht um einen Incident und dessen Aufarbeitung und Behebung.
Nach nicht ganz einer halben Stunde lustlosen Ablesen irgendwelcher Listen, die sich die Leute auch hätten selber durchlesen könne, gabs dann endlich ein Thema, welches alle interessierte: Die Farbe und deren Zuordnung zu Themen von Post-It an der Projektübersichtstafel. Stand nicht auf der Tagesordnung, aber alle fanden es wichtig. Die wurden dann etwas über eine Stunde intensiv diskutiert. Absolut bizarr und die Frage, ob das jetzt relevant sei wurde beantwortet: "Das ist schon wichtig." und niemand scheint das irgendwie seltsam vorzukommen, ausser dem externen Projektmanager und uns Consultants.
Eine Abstimmung hat praktisch nicht stattgefunden, dafür ist jetzt geklärt welche Post-It noch bestellt werden müssen um den Farbcode einhalten zu können. Das Meeting ist jetzt auch beendet weil gleich Mittag ist.

Die Mittagszeit ist auch speziell... Eine Gruppe von Mitarbeitern (4 Leute) aus der "Wissenschaftlichen Abteilung" geht zum Asiaten. Soweit ok, aber nach ca. 45min kommen sie zurück, zwei haben einen der typischen weissen Plastiktüten mit dem Essen, man schwätzt und ist guter Laune. Dann setzen sich alle aus der Abteilung (um die 10 Leute) in einen der Meetingräume und essen. Mal sehen wie lange sie dort sitzen...
Eigentlich brennt hier gerade die Luft um den Laden wieder zum Fliegen zu bekommen, aber das reflektiert sich Null im Verhalten der Mitarbeiter. Die müssten alle Dokumente auf Integrität prüfen, es gibt ewig lange Todo-Listen...

Er hat sich bewegt und einen Reboot bestätigt! Bis eben habe ich überlegt, ob man eher den Notarzt oder ein Beerdigungsinstitut anruft.
Habe ihn gefragt warum er nicht parallel mehrere Systeme installiert und auch darauf hingewiesen, dass das automatisch durchläuft und man sogar noch was anderes machen könnte. Der schaut als ob ich ihm vorgeschlagen würde irgendwas absolut undenkbares zu tun. Die Antwort (bitte mit starkem Berliner Dialekt vorstellen: "Neeee, ich schau lieber das alles richtig läuft." Meine Antwort: "Das kann man im Log nachlesen, ausserdem würde was auf dem Bildschirm stehen, wenn es Probleme gibt." Keine Antwort, nur Glotzen...

Ich glaube ich muss meine Beobachtungen teilen, rein für meine mentale Gesundheit. :blobfacepalm:
Deutsche Bundesbehörde, will nicht näher darauf eingehen welche (NDA). Dort gab es im letzten Jahr eine Sicherheitsschwankung und ich berate jetzt wie man die IT wieder hochzieht, sowohl beratend im Sinne ich erkläre denen Zeugs, als auch hands on. Wir reden von ca. 120 Servern und ein paar hundert Clients.
Admin hat die Aufgabe Server zu installieren. Installiert wird via einem Tool, also Netzwerkboot und dann unattended install mit voreingestellten Presets. Ich habe eben im Log des Systems nachgeschaut, wann die Installation gestartet hat: 9:33 Uhr. Seit dem sitzt der Admin regungslos davor und starrt auf den Bildschirm, also seit ziemlich genau 50 Minuten und beobachtet Fortschrittsbalken. Er könnte parallel weitere Installationen starten und wir hätten die Server bis Ende der Woche alle fertig installiert, aber auf die Idee kommt der gar nicht. Der IT-Leiter sagt auch nix...

I promise you all one thing: The moment 3D-printers are somehow regulated what it can be used for all the lobbyists will come forward and will add their wishes to the list of forbidden things to print.
If 3d-printing is outlawed so the chance of getting the power to manufacture things and spare parts will end. All your prototypes will go to a central authority to see if there is something useful in development... Or to see if there are copyright violations...
And no, it will not stop ghostguns. This ship sailed a long time ago and it will not come back. Society needs other ways to handle it than forbid a manufacturing process.

Dazu kann ich was sagen. Vor zwei+ Jahren oder so ein kleines Experiment gemacht. Meine Eltern, beide Rentner, brauchten ein neues Auto. Sie leben auf dem Dorf, ÖPNV ist keine Alternative, der fährt nur früh in die Stadt und abends zurück. Supermarkt sind ca. 10km, Dorfladen gibt es nicht mehr, die meisten anderen Ziele wie Behörden sind im Radius vom 30-40km, bergige Landschaft. Fahrrad ist ausgeschlossen, Mutter hat COPD und Vater Artrose.
Also sollte ein Kleinwagen her und das möglichst elektrisch. Diverse Modelle bei Händlern angeschaut, 30k€ als idiotisch abgehakt und dann auf dem Gebrauchtmarkt geschaut und da kam uns die Idee ein Experiment zu machen. Wir haben dann gezielt ein älteres E-Auto gesucht und sind bei einem 11 Jahre alten Citroen C-Zero fündig geworden, ca. 70000km Laufleistung. Kosten waren 4500€. Das ist ein E-Auto der 1. Generation, Kleinwagen und ohne Schnörkel. Plan war zu sehen wie lange er hält, was der Akku taugt usw.
Kurz zusammengefasst, das Auto fährt immer noch, hat 110000km auf der Uhr und meine Eltern fahren damit täglich und man muss auch sagen der Großteil sind Spassfahrten. Bisher keine Reparaturen, nur einmal einen Satz Reifen und Kleinkram wie Scheibenwischer. Angegebener Verbrauch 14kWh/100km, realistisch 15-16kwh/100km, im Winter etwas mehr. Reichweite im Sommer realistische 100km, im WInter 80-90km. Angegeben ist das Fahrzeug mit 120km Reichweite, aber wie ich von anderen E-Autos gelernt habe, ist das nahezu nicht zu erreichen, vermutlich hat das Auto mal 110km geschafft, was für ein Stadtauto, als das es entworfen wurde, völlig ausreichend ist. Was aber der eigentliche Punkt ist, der Akku hat inzwischen 13 Jahre runter und keinen Kapazitätsverlust, der in der Praxis relavant wäre. Dafür hat das Fahrzeug die typischen E-Auto-Vorteile wie eine Heizung, die sofort warm ist, nicht erst wenn man am Ziel angekommen ist, wie beim Verbrenner.
Mein Onkel fährt inzwischen den gleichen Typ, obwohl er immer E-Auto-Feind war, aber nachdem sein Passat abgebrannt ist, hat er umgedacht.

Europe often sees Ukraine only as a victim. That is a dangerous oversimplification.
Ukraine is a major military power in its own right. For the last two centuries, most so-called russian victories depended heavily on Ukraine.
Against Napoleon Bonaparte, the Russian Empire relied on Ukrainian manpower, food supplies, horses, and Cossack cavalry. Against Adolf Hitler, millions of Ukrainians fought in the Red Army, while Ukrainian industry, agriculture, and territory were decisive for Soviet victory.
The same pattern appeared in darker chapters of European history. The partition of Poland, the Warsaw Pact’s military threat, the war against Finland, and even the war in Afghanistan were all enabled by imperial armies that included massive Ukrainian participation.
In the USSR, the most advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles were designed and manufactured in Ukraine and serviced by Ukrainians until 2014. Ukrainians made up roughly 40% of Soviet army officers in the 1980s. The world’s largest cargo aircraft was built in Ukraine. russia wants all of this back — and without Ukraine, its missiles now explode on roughly every second launch.
Ukraine also possesses around 30% of the world’s black soil, the most fertile agricultural land on Earth — an enormous source of strategic leverage. In addition, Ukraine holds major mineral resources, including uranium, ranking among the top ten countries globally by uranium reserves.
History shows a simple rule: russia looks strongest when it controls Ukraine.
If russia absorbs Ukraine today, Europe will not face a tired or weakened aggressor. It will face the strongest and most experienced army on the continent — reinforced by Ukrainian manpower, battlefield experience, and industrial capacity.

Ukraine can become the backbone of Europe’s defense against russia. Or, if left unsupported, it can be forcibly absorbed — and then brought to Europe’s doorstep.

Of course it is a Commodore C16. Meant as a replacement for the cheap VIC-20 it was something like the little brother of the Plus/4
The C16 was announced in June 1984 and sold from 1985. At this point, Mattel and TI had withdrawn from the home computer market. Japanese companies then also brought home computers onto the market with the MSX computers, but these were also more in competition with the Commodore 64. In 1984, however, home computers with 64 KB RAM (C64, Atari 800XL, CPC 464, MSX) were already considered entry-level home computers, so the C16/C116 had not been promised much success.
Like the entire trio of the 264 series (C16, C116 and Plus/4), the C16 was not a great success. At first there were no significant number of games and „real“ applications.

Solarpaneele senkrecht? Das bringt doch nichts!
Doch, tut es und mehr als viele glauben. Im Winter, wo der meiste Strom gebraucht wird, sind senkrecht montierte Solarpaneele näher am Optimum (ca. 70-80°) als die übliche Dachmontage (30-35°).
Bereits im November kann die Ausbeute von senkrecht montierten Solarpaneelen die der auf dem Dach übersteigen und das bleibt so bis Februar.

Don't just plug it in! It could kill it. First open it up and check for leaked capacitors or batteries.
I don't know if this model had a battery, but sometimes expansion cards had. Capacitors it has for sure.
I cannot stress this enough, because I have seen more that one vintage tech ruined by this problem.

Todays computer is another workstation. Where there is light, there is much shadow and sometimes the sun causes a bad sunburn, as you can see here.

Ok, lets resolve the mystery. It is a Sun Blade 1000 and to my knowladge it was the last workstation by Sun Microsystem delivered by default with a 13w3 monitor plug. In theory it was possible to order later Blade workstations with 13w3 graphic cards but this was rarely requested.
The Ultra workstations didn't have onboard USB, but one could order expansion cards.

I can confirm that the device is a workstation from Sun Microsystem, so neither Clone nor any other manufacturer.
