That's mostly theory, communism looked good in theory. The harsh truth is that the power corrupts and also we are not yet mature enough as a species. We still make emotional decisions, even in politics. Slogans and charisma are usually more important than words and actions.
There was a time when people were really fed up with 1% controlling 99% of wealth. What came out of this, how did we get distracted, why are we so polarized now? Just one example.

It wasn't, but it started with that idea and then it got sidetracked mostly because no criticism was possible. Voicing any objections meant that you got cancelled, literally.
And today I see the same thing, my post here got deleted only because I mentioned reading a book by a well known and respectable journalist who is unpopular among leftists. If such people got to power, I think we would relive Orwell's Animal Farm again.

In Serbia when there are protests, police officers in plain clothes start pulling someone away, usually a girl, without showing any ID, which they are required to do by law. When people defend themselves, then it's an attack against a police officer and they get arrested for that.
Perhaps, MAGA crowd will take that approach.

On the surface of it, you're right. But, in this particular case, the inadequate healthcare system of US kills a great number of people and the greedy corporations are the main culprit.
I still can't say that I justify that murder, but I'm just an outside observer. I'm sure many of people who commented had personal experience with that insane system.

I started as a tech support agent, clients had all sorts of servers, I don't even remember now. Most were Debian/Ubuntu. One poor soul even had a LAMP stack on a Mac and I've also seen an Arch based Server. Our in-house servers were Debian.

Well, I agree on that, it should be up to our people. But, how can people make rational decisions when Russians pour millions into propaganda outlets here, that even include our church and when the regime media are very much aligned with this? In an ideal world there wouldn't be this kind of interference, but Russia already interferes and I wish US and EU did a lot more to counter that.

We all watched for years as every building project took a lot of time, as retaining walls were build, demolished, rebuild several times, as water gushed from electrical outlets in the new buildings during storms, etc, etc. And it was only a matter of time before this kind of corruption and incompetence killed someone.
And yes, US does support illegitimate dictators, but this includes Vucic as well.

As for these protests, on Nov. 1 a canopy of a train station collapsed, killing 15 people. The problem is that whenever something is being built, the regime expects to siphon off a lot of money through phony tenders and other means. On top of that, the companies who are run by the regime are often staffed with people who got their jobs through the party, who are not really capable of working in their field. ⬇️

2) People who got their job through the party and whose jobs depend on it. Most of the public sector employees fall in this category. These people have to submit photographic evidence, a photo of the ballot with their ID, to prove that they voted.
3) Migratory voters - party members who change their residence to the towns where Vucic party has lower support.

So Vucic does his best to keep the society away from any of the values of civilized societies that could hurt him, while still taking Western money (80% of Serbia's trade is with EU/USA).
And no, the elections are not legitimate in any sense of that word.
There are three categories of people who vote for him and his party:
1) Elderly and naive people who don't use the internet and don't have cable TV. They only have access to state run media. ⬇️

Why? Because in a civilized Western society with free media and a functional criminal justice system, Vucic would be rotting in a jail. To just give you a few examples, he openly admitted withholding a security footage from a traffic accident investigation, where one of his cronies killed a woman. And when people refused to sell their property for his building projects, he sent his goons with excavators to demolish their homes. ⬇️

They are now absolute shit, at least those that come through Slovakia. At work, the highest rate of broken laptops that we have is among Lenovo, 1 in 22. Dell is at 1 broken in 55. We had whole batches of about a dozen laptops where every single one broke. And they even look shitty, P16 has stinky and cheap plastic where clips break as soon as you try to open it.

I don't get this fad. My grandparents grew up in subsistence farming families, they didn't even have electricity until after WW2, illiteracy rate was more than 50%. And yet, nobody consumed raw milk, except hungry kids when they were not under their parents' supervision. Even then people knew that it is unsanitary.

Enshitification of cars is partly the fault of customers, who have accepted all of the crap.
I want a car that has:
- All metal roof
- Steel rims not larger than 16 inch
- Physical buttons for everything
- Infotainment that is completely isolated from important systems such as door locks
- No telemetry at all
- Cloth seats
So, I won't be buying a new car anytime soon.

I'm a geek who spends a lot of my free time with my PC, but news like this makes me want to rebuild my granoarents' cabin and go live without electricity for a while.
This is happening all the time, greedy corporations push things that we neither need nor want, until stupid people start buying it and then we all have to live with it.
And the only reason I'm replacing my mice is because they stop working properly.
